Dominic @ Wingbeat
Who: Dominic and OPEN
What: Dancing? Drinking?
Where: Wingbeat - LGBTQ+ Night
When: Thursday 26th Feb
Rating: We'll see...

An afternoon spent admiring Wingbeat - and it's owner - reminded Dominic that it had been far too long since he'd had a proper night out. He spent time at Finnigan's, of course, and he enjoyed it but it wasn't quite the same. Even though Dominic didn't dance much, the atmosphere was different. Louder, more intense, less room for conversation and more room for admiring the sights... Tonight, Dominic had no loftier goal in mind than that. It was rare for him to leave his flat without both his camera and his notebook, but this time he decided to go with it, bringing nothing to Wingbeat but his wand and some money. He wasn't here to work.

He'd dressed in a simple black t-shirt and jeans, cigarettes tucked in the back pocket just in case. He arrived late enough that it was already pretty crowded, the dance floor filled with people - whether alone, in groups or in couples. Dominic skirted around, narrowly avoiding at least one spilled drink, and ordered himself a vodka and orange juice. He happened to leave the bar just as a group of young women were leaving their table to go dance and he quickly nabbed the stool. The music was loud, and Dominic could almost see why Charlie wanted to put in a quieter area, but he quickly let the thought slide to the back of his mind. He tapped his foot against the table leg in rough time, watching out for anyone he knew - or anyone he didn't, but might like to.

Dominic chuckled - because no, he didn't get landed on all that often. "It's happened," he said. "Usually there's alcohol involved." He'd been around enough drunk people to sense that Hermione certainly wasn't wasted - if she'd even been drinking at all. "No one's ever commented on it being nice before, though." He stood up, touching Hermione's arm lightly as he moved them towards the bar. They would probably lose their table, but on the other hand not every woman was comfortable with having a relative stranger bring her drink unsupervised.

"I think I can manage that," he agreed as they pushed their way to the bar to order. After reviewing the menu, he decided on a virgin Sweetwater Sling which had mango, pineapple, pomegranate and lime juices - enough fruit for anyone. He paid for an additional non-virgin glass for himself, even if it meant he'd be jugging two drinks for a while. "There you are," he said, handing Hermione her drink. "Are you here with anyone or can I tempt you to come sit with me? There's some seats down the other end of the bar." It wasn't every day Dominic got the chance to chat one-on-one with saviours of the wizarding world, and no one had come looking for Hermione yet.

Having no plans in particular Hermione decided it was best to take Dominic up on his offer. "I shall apologize for their horrible manners," she quipped as she tried her best to stay close to him as they weaved their way through the crowd.

She stood back and watched what went into the drink he ordered as the bar keep put it together. With a nod and a word of thanks to both the individual behind the bar and Dominic she accepted the drink. "I just came to see what this place is all about," she answered honestly as she took a sip from the straw she'd grabbed to put in the drink. "Figured as a family friend I needed to come support Charlie in his endeavor at least once."

"Why?" Dominic asked, genuinely curious. "Even if it bothered me, it's not your fault." Maybe Hermione was just being polite, or even joking, but it was the kind of blunt question Dominic should long ago have learned to avoid and somehow hadn't.

Once both their drinks were securely in hand, Dominic lead them over to the far side of the bar, keeping an eye on Hermione now that his hands were too full to keep them in physical contact. "You've not been in here before?" he asked, as he gestured for Hermione to take the first seat. Wingbeat had been open for months now, as Dominic was well aware since he'd helped with the interior of the place when Charlie had first taken over. "It's doing well, as far as I know. Well enough that Charlie's talking about renovations already."

Hermione decided it was best to drop the whole having landed on Dominic line. She was attempting a bit of humor and had obviously failed dramatically. Thankfully she was accustomed to people and their inability to grasp her attempts to be humorous.

Hermione kept close behind Dominic as he weaved his way to a table where they could sit. "I tend to stay away from these sorts of establishments," she stated in a matter of fact manner. "Not because they aren't worthy. They just simply aren't my scene," Hermione added to make sure she didn't insult.

She then paused to listen to what Dominic had to say about the club. "So then, you've partnered with him some?" she assumed based on his knowledge of potential business plans Charlie may have.

Dominic nodded, understanding. He had been a Ravenclaw, after all, a lot of his friends had been the academically competitive type - and at least a third of them would have fallen into the same category. On the other hand, another third would work hard and then play harder, and they lived for places like this. "I haven't been here that often," he admitted. "I prefer pubs, generally." However, the kind of night he'd been hoping for was less commonly found in clubs. It spoke much to his personality that he'd ended up having a one-on-one conversation anyway.

He sipped his first drink, the second still waiting in front of him. "He commissioned me to do some work for him. I wouldn't call it partnering, I don't have a financial stake in the business or anything." He didn't feel bad mentioning the renovations - especially knowing Charlie had put an entry up on the journals. "How's your drink?" he asked. "Appropriately fruity?"

Hermione looked around and noticed how much fun everyone was having. She just wished she could find Charlie amongst the crowd so she could see if he looked as on fire here as he had when she'd seen him around dragons.

"It is quite nice, thank-you," she addressed the question of the drink first. It was a bit much for the palate but then again it fit the atmosphere. "Financial stake for the long haul or not it is still a partnership of sorts. Are you both not benefiting?"

"Well, he's paying me," Dominic agreed with a grin. Some days, it still amazed - and amused - him that he could be paid to mess around with interesting charms and magic, so long as he eventually got it to work the way the customer wanted. It was especially sweet after teachers had spent years telling him he needed to do well in his exams if he wanted a good job. Not that Dominic had failed anything important, but he knew that this many years on it was his portfolio that spoke more highly than his grades. "And I get to put it in my portfolio, and I'm sure if someone asked who'd done the work he'd tell them. But if in six months he wants something new done, he's under no obligation to hire me to do it." Not that there was a vast amount of competition in Monument Alley, but there was some, and Dominic still hadn't had a big client in Diagon Alley or Hogsmeade yet.

Deciding that they were basically just dickering over semantics, Dominic elected to move on. "Are you working tomorrow?" It would explain the lack of alcohol, not that it really needed any explanation.

Hermione listened with genuine interest as Dominic talked about his arrangement with Charlie. "I'm certain that if you do as well of a job here as you have at Finnigan's that you two will have a lucrative future."

When he asked if she was working the following day, a look of disbelief flashed quickly across her face. She found the question rather odd considering that most offices were open Monday through Friday and she was fairly certain that most everyone knew she worked a desk job. "I usually do work Fridays."

"Usually but not tomorrow?" Dominic asked, since the phrasing had left it uncertain. Just because she worked a desk job didn't mean she couldn't take a day off and have a long weekend, or even a holiday. February might not be the most traditional time for it, but it wouldn't be the strangest thing Dominic had ever heard. After all, she had no children and didn't have to worry about taking time off when they'd already be out of school.

"I guess some of these people must be working tomorrow, though," he added, looking around at the crowd. "The one disadvantage of LGBT night. They're almost never on Friday or Saturday, unless it's a gay club." He shrugged and sipped his drink. "Not that it bothers me too much, I don't often have to get up early. His regular work was all at Finnigan's, and the earliest he had to be there was an hour or so before lunch. "Sometimes I do anyway, just because I'm awake." He was rambling, the drink loosening his tongue so that he talked even when he didn't truly need to. At least he wasn't drunk enough to be saying anything stupid - just trivial.

"I don't deviate from my schedule often," Hermione responded to his pressing of the question. "Tomorrow is no exception." Drinking down the last of the beverage Dominic had bought her she set the glass down on the table and pushed it to the center. "I would say that any night when one has to get up early instead of enjoying their evening would be a disadvantage." Yes, Hermione enjoyed her job but she also enjoyed her days off.

"That said, I should probably call it a night myself." When Dominic stressed the theme of the evening she was fairly confident that there were others whose company he would much rather prefer. "Thank you for my drink and enjoy the rest of your evening," she stood and gave a slight wave before turning and making her way toward the exit.
