Bryn’s voice came as both a surprise and not a surprise at all… and brought along quite a bit of relief with it. Melinda leaned forward from where she was sitting on the kitchen counter – crisp bag in hand – so she could look around the corner and up to the mezzanine above the dining room. “You’re up there,” she stated, wincing at the sound of her voice. “And you’re loud.” At least if he had slept up there, the chances that she had simply borrowed his sweater improved greatly, and that was a relief.

Technically, she figured, she ought to go change out of the sweater, maybe even put on a pair of pants or something, or at the very least locate her wand so she could summon the things she needed, but sitting here on the kitchen counter it felt a lot less likely that she would fall over than standing on the floor did. “Coffee or tea?” she asked, still keeping her voice as low as possible while still being able to be heard, as she reached into the cupboard beside her to get the box with Potions that her dad kept well-stocked for her.
