A while ago, Rose had gotten the impression that Rolf was going to take her somewhere today. She still wasn’t quite sure why, because though he had done something for her birthday every year she had known him, it still felt odd to have it remembered like this. It was just different from remembering Dennis’ birthday or Rolf’s. But while she had somewhat figured out that they were going somewhere, she didn’t know where. She had been tempted – oh, so incredibly tempted – to start looking around, and she knew Rolf so well – maybe too well, some would claim – that it would have been almost too easy to figure that out. Of course, Rolf knew her every bit as well as she knew him, so maybe it would have been all that much easier to keep it hidden from her.
What did surprise her, though, was that he had made arrangements for the wiggles to come along, and even more surprising that she found this to be a comfort, because as much work as they were, Rose found herself longing to get back to Ant whenever she had been at work for a full day. That wiggle was just about the cutest thing she could imagine, and she was eternally grateful that Bast was as good and concerned surrogate as she was, when Rose couldn’t be around.
Another thing that surprised her was where they were going. Not that Finland was a surprise – Rolf knew all kinds of amazing places all over the world – but the place. The glass igloos were amazing, and that was only from what she had seen during the dull daylight. She couldn’t imagine what it would be like when it was completely dark…
“This place is fantastic!” she gushed, turning around to look up at Rolf, Ant comfortably snuggled against her chest, right where she preferred him. Especially while they were travelling. “How do you even know this place?”
