RP: Lunch
Who: Alicia and Susan
What: Lunch, gossip, shopping, anything
Where: Starting out at Finnigan’s
When: Friday, 13. February, 2005
Rating: SFW, unless there’s some language

Alicia was well aware that if she just waved her wand a couple of times followed up with a murmured incantation she could have shrunk the bags she was carrying to fit in her purse. But… Honestly? There was something satisfying about carrying the three bags, and it wasn’t like they were particularly heavy, and even more honestly? The risk of them disappearing in her purse was a great deal bigger than her losing the actual, real-sized bags.

Once inside Finnigan’s she order lunch and a big cup of coffee, before she found a seat where she could see the room. Just in case.

Susan hurried down Monument Alley, deeply thankful for the warming charms she'd decided to put on her scarf, coat, and gloves that morning. It was cold, with everything implied in the use of mental italics. She was however in good spirits, having managed to snag herself five dark wizards in a single morning, so she decided that she deserved to have a lunch with Alicia to celebrate.

She slipped into Finnigan's and looked around curiously, finding it busier than was usual for a Friday - although it was the day before Valentine's Day. She spotted Alicia and slid through the throng, pausing to order herself some lunch, and then plonked herself down opposite her friend. "Well, you look like you've been busy," she said by way of greeting. "What's the news?"

Alicia had seen Susan arrive at Finnigan’s, she had even found herself amused by the efficiency with which Susan navigated the room, and yet she still found herself surprised when sooner than she had expected, her friend unceremoniously plopped into the chair across the table from her. “Haven’t felt busy,” she laughed, and leaned forward to rest her elbows on the table.

News? News… Alicia didn’t think she had any new news, however, given how long it had been since she had last seen Susan, there were probably a couple of things that could be considered news. “London is criminally colder than St. Thomas?” she tried, “and… I applied and was accepted into university, so I’ll be leaving Pride at the end of the season. You’re looking great, by the way!”

Susan nodded pointedly at the three bags her friend had been lugging around without any magical aid for some unknown reason. "Shopping totally counts as being busy," she said with a smirk. "It's nearly as fun as hexing a couple of knuckleheads all over a Cathedral for entertainment."

"Of course it bloody is, London is decidedly not in the Caribbean is it?" She blinked for a moment, truly surprised. "University? What? I had no idea! You must tell me everything at once dear! What are you studying?" She sat back and grinned. "So what does the man friend think of all this eh?"

Alicia smirked back at Susan before she chuckled. “Not when the kids are at school,” she grinned, “then it’s quite calming, actually.” She paused for a moment, then looked at her friend. “Who’s being a knucklehead these days?”

“No, it’s certainly not in the Caribbean, but even Jackson Hole in Wyoming seems warm compared to here, and the snow there came up to over my hips!” With a shudder that came unbidden from just thinking about how cold it was outside, she took a sip of her coffee, hoping that that would provide some heat. “Physiotherapy,” continued, going straight back to Susan’s questions. “I thought we talked about that… wow, that was a long time ago. Back in August, I think. Anyway, I applied, only had to, uhm, fix the name of my current employer for the practical experience part.” She smiled at Susan, her cheeks heating up a little at the thought of what Adrian thought of it. “He’s supportive. Claims he never doubted I’d get in, and well, he wants me to start living my own dreams again.”

Susan tilted her head for a second, then nodded in agreement. "I certainly can't argue with you there. I don't know what I'd do if I had two children to cope with, even if they were as lovely as yours." She arched an eyebrow as Alicia gave her a searching look. "Oh you know, just a couple of dark wizards this morning who I took it upon myself to detain and capture." She paused and examined her manicure for a second, for dramatic effect. "Five arrests in a single morning always looks good."

She wrinkled her nose for a second. "Something to be said for London that we don't get hip deep snow. I got enough of that at Hogwarts thank you very much." She sat back, surprise and delight mingling pleasantly in her chest. "That's brilliant! Where abouts are you going to do it?" She laughed and clapped her hands together happily. "Oh I'm sure he is, lucky to have you that man is!"

“It’s really not that hard!” Alicia laughed; as much as she loved doing some things alone and enjoyed the occasional shopping trip on her own, she loved being with Liam and Isla even more. Besides, it was her life, and it had been her life for the past six years. “Petrificus Totalus and other variations of bodybinds are really handy. As are calming potions,” she joked with a nonchalant shrug. Those solutions, however, weren’t any she had ever applied to her children and she was pretty sure that Susan knew that. “You know, same tactics as capturing dark wizards. Are you joking, Bones? How could you possibly think that that’s any easier than what I do?”

“Well, we don’t have the same skiing opportunities either, so it’s really… That made the hip-deep snow seem like no problem at all.” Looking at Susan she smiled at the compliment; yes, Adrian probably was lucky to have her, but he wasn’t the only lucky one in this. She was lucky to have met him, to have been given a second chance to get to know the man who had been a right git back in school, and not only that, but he had given her a chance to, which had led to him becoming such an important part of her and the twins’ life. “King’s College,” she said, mentally shaking off her reverie, “so I’m staying in town. It’d be silly to try for somewhere else, when that’s one of the best places to learn, right? What’s happening in your life? I’m ashamed of how long it’s been.”

Susan snorted again and gave Alicia a once over with mock seriousness. "I don't need to report you do I," she asked with a smirk. "I mean cursing and drugging your children is one thing, but actually enjoying their company is totally against the pureblood ideal," she teased. She arched an eyebrow and gave a delicate shrug. "Well, for one thing you actually care about your children, whereas I only care about the people I apprehend in the most superficial sense of not injuring them beyond repair unless I absolutely have to, so really it's a lot easier for you... Or possibly harder?"

"Well yes," she conceded with a nod. "London isn't generally known for it's skiing." She watched the pleasure of having someone in her life bloom on Alicia's face, and felt a momentary pang of self-pity and jealousy that was crushed with an iron fist almost as soon as it appeared. She was happy for Alicia, truly! With a mental shake of her head, she refocused on her friend. "That's really good," she said with genuine warmth and enthusiasm. "Plus I totally get the staying in London thing! Not that travelling magically would have been too great of a chore, but better to keep things easy." She thought about Alicia's question for a moment before shrugging. "Not all that much really! I've moved completely into the new house, done two years worth of stints at Azkaban on guard duty, spent some time dating a lovely collection of floozies, and I've started going to the gym? Oh and I'm up for a spot on the Wizengamot apparently?"
