Marcus let Roger's words flow over him, but he still couldn't move past what he thought he'd heard. The implication that his unrequited feelings might not be so unrequited was the only thing he was capable of concentrating on, but it didn't seem as though the younger man was going to give him any clarification.
"What did you say, before?" he asked quietly, hating the way the words came out, almost desperate and more than a little vulnerable. "Please," he added after a heartbeat, since it couldn't hurt to use his manners - either Roger would tell him, or he wouldn't, but Marcus had to at least try and figure out if he was misunderstanding, or the uncertainty would drive him mad.
