RP: Good to be home
Who: Zacharias and Stacey
What: Cats, cuddling and complaints about the weather. Maybe not in that order.
Where: Their flat
When: Sunday, January 18 2005
Rating: NSFW - Language (due to Stacey's love of curse words)

After taking the Portkey to the Ministry of Magic from the counterpart in Puerto Rico, Stacey had Apparated directly into the foyer of Zacharias' flat. She'd made it about two steps before Merry was twining around her ankles, and she put down her bags before sitting down on the floor and pulling the cat into her arms, snuggling her face into his fur and scratching behind his ears. "I have missed you so much," she told the small ball of fur, grinning at the purr she got in response.

A few minutes later, she stood up slowly, the cat still tucked into her arms as she called out, "Zacharias, you home? I'm warning you right now that I plan on giving you the biggest hug ever in the history of hugs."

Zacharias cringed a little bit at the mention of the biggest hug in the history of hugs. He had nothing against hugs in theory, and he certainly had nothing against Stacey. He just wasn't always comfortable with touching. However, he didn't mind hugging Stacey. It was just a knee-jerk reaction for him, and he sighed a little bit, pulling out a container from the ice box and putting it on the kitchen counter.

"I'm home," he called, heading from the kitchen to the front of the house. He smirked a little bit at a squak, looking down to see Pippin trying to run on her short legs to the front door. He paused momentarily to pick her up, cradling her carefully, thinking Stacey wouldn't risk squishing the cat all for the sake of a hug. He also wasn't sure Pippin could get there as fast as she seemed to want to on her own. He scratched behind her ears as he approached Stacey, shaking his head slightly at the sight of Merlin.

"They really missed you," he said in reference to the cats. "And so did I," he added, giving her a small smile. He really had been worried something was going to happen to her, and he was glad to have his friend back in town, safe from whatever her mum may or may not have been up to.

Stacey didn't bother trying to reign in her grin at hearing Zacharias' voice, which grew eve more when she actually caught sight of him. Chuckling lightly at the fact that they were both currently holding cats, which totally interfered with her hugging plans, she reached one hand out to scratch under Pippin's chin.

Turning slightly, she laid her head on his shoulder instead of the hug she'd threatened, unwilling to disturb the felines. "I missed you so fucking much," she told him truthfully. "And I am never going anywhere with my parents again until I know for certain that there's a plan. Who the hell buys a one-way plane ticket for a 'vacation'?"

With a small shake of her head to rid herself of all the irritation that came along with thinking about the clusterfuck that had been the trip to Puerto Rico, Stacey glanced up at her best friend's face, smiling again as she asked, "So, what new and exciting things have been happening around here? I'm sure I've missed so much."

Someone without an exit plan, Zacharias thought, but he kept himself from saying that. Instead, he said, "Someone who plans to move or is going on an extended holiday for an undetermined amount of time. Though why your parents had that planned, I've no idea." He shook his head a little bit, shifting Pippin so he could reach his hand around Stacey and give her a side hug squeeze thing. Secretly he hoped it'd appease her urge to hug him for a little bit longer, though he'd also done it in an attempt to comfort her.

"Well, I've got a Christmas present for you somewhere. And there's food on the counter. It needs to be warmed up, but I thought you might want something to eat after your international portkeying adventure," he said, scratching behind the kitten's head. He'd thought about telling her about how he'd managed to become an animagus, but he wasn't sure how to bring that up just yet. He'd tell her, but he wasn't sure when or how just yet. "I think I also have a few pictures of the cats in crocheted hats. I'll have to show you when you open your present."

"Or because they're insane," Stacey countered, because after that trip, she was seriously considering the possibility. She smiled at the squeeze around her shoulders, especially knowing Zacharias' feelings on physical contact, so she appreciated the comfort and decided to spare him her giant hug for the time being.

Grinning up at him, Stacey said, "You're the best, you know that? I am starving, especially for something that isn't my grandmother's cooking. There is only so much of that I can take, and I reached my limit about two weeks ago." Reaching out to run her fingers over Pippin's head at the kitten's small noise, she added, "I am very sad that I missed the hats in person. I bet that was a sight. And I have your Christmas present as well, somewhere." Since both her hands were occupied, she made a motion with her head to the two shrunken bags sitting in the foyer. "I do have to say, it was a relief to be able to make those a manageable size for the trip home, rather than struggle with the huge bulky things through an airport again." Stacey had become convinced that airports were officially hell on earth, full of angry, tired people just wanting to get wherever they were going.

"I can promise it isn't your grandmum's cooking; just mine. Spaghetti and meatballs specifically," he said, having decided to make something he knew she liked. He didn't know if she'd eaten or not yet, but he knew that, sometimes, a favourite meal could go a long way after a stressful situation. And it sounded like her trip with her parents had been a particularly stressful situation.

Zacharias looked over at her bags as he listened. He didn't understand how Muggles could stand traveling the way they did, and he was grateful that he was a wizard. He didn't have to deal with airports, and he could fly on his own without having to schedule it. Though, if he were honest, he was curious what an airport looked like. He just wasn't sure visiting one would be worth the slowness or the apparent inability to take a lot with you. Then again, he was a wizard. He could make his bags carry as much or as little as he wanted.

"How much stuff did you pack?" he asked, wondering about the need to make them a manageable size, since he was thinking about the size of luggage anyway.

Grinning up at him, Stacey said, "You are my favorite person in the entire universe." She'd missed not only the food, but Zacharias' quiet, uncomplicated company, so different from the constant chaos that had been her abuela's house. For the first time in what felt like forever, she felt like she could actually breath without the action either disturbing someone or being questioned about what she was doing. It was nice to not be so stifled anymore.

"Well, originally I only took like two weeks worth of things, and then we wound up being there a lot longer than that - obviously - and Abuela kept giving me things to bring home with me," she answered, shaking her head slightly. "And no matter how many times I told her I didn't need any of it, she would insist and pull the 'I might be dead before you come back again' so I couldn't tell her no." Stacey sighed and rolled her eyes, and then added, "Apparently she could not understand the concept of a 'flatmate' no matter how many ways my cousins or I translated it, and she was convinced that you're my boyfriend. And refused to believe otherwise. Sorry about that, though hopefully you never have to suffer through meeting her."

Zacharias raised his brows at the news of Stacey's grandmum believing he were her boyfriend. He was a boy who was a friend, and that was the extent of his experience with being a boyfriend. And he'd definitely not had any experience with anyone thinking he was someone's boyfriend. He didn't really know how to react to that. He opened his mouth and then shut it, furrowing his brows a little.

"Did you try telling her that there will be no great-grandchildren with Zacharias?" he said after a moment. "If you didn't, maybe lead with that next time you talk with her." It was what he'd do. It was actually what he'd done himself before, though that was mostly due to the fact that that was the only way to get across to his parents and grandparents that he wasn't interested in one of the witches his grandmother had set him up with. He didn't know if that would work for Stacey with her grandmum. Part of him hoped he'd never have to find out.

"Yeah," Stacey answered, rolling her eyes. "She is apparently under the impression that my asexuality is 'a phase' and when I find some nice boy I'll stop with the 'chastity idea' or something equally ridiculous." She sighed and then shook her head, trying to forcibly get rid of all those awful conversations attempting to relive themselves in her mind.

"But enough about me and the trip from hell. What have you been up to?" She was well aware that Zacharias couldn't talk about work, and had long come to accept that, but their jobs weren't the only things in their lives, and she was curious about what he'd been up to while she'd been gone. "Anything new and exciting happen while I was absent?"
