RP: Girls' Day Out
Who: Melinda, Marietta, and Cho and OPENish
What: The girls’ day of pampering
Where: Hardd Knut
When: Saturday, January 17, 2005
Rating: SFW, most likely

With a content sigh, Melinda leaned back in her chair and let the witch start working on her nails. Although she hadn’t said it, she had had her hesitations about spending the day of leisure and pampering with her friends at Hardd Knut. Not because the service wasn’t excellent – it was – but because of the attitude the owner, Jemma, had shown when the Daily Prophet had drawn Oliver’s reasons for being with her into question. It still stung to think about that, and up until now, Melinda had done just fine without frequenting the local salon and making good use of the ones she had become familiar with in Muggle London. However, both Cho and Marietta appeared to be in favour of the place, and so she had simply hoped that the owner would keep her opinions to herself and maybe even focused on either of her friends instead of Melinda.

So far, so good.

“I could get used to this,” she said with a grin, turning her head to look at her friend next to her.

Marietta rarely had her nails done professionally. She tended to prefer to do her own due to the nature of her second job. What clients wanted could vary so from one to the other that what might be appropriate on Monday evening wasn't any good for Thursday night. However, she couldn't deny that the hand massage that went along with a proper manicure was simply divine.

"I could let them work my hands all day," she sighed and felt her body relax a little more into the chair.

Cho laughed, "I wouldn't say that outside the salon, someone might get the wrong idea," she felt so good just being with the girls for the day. She had Carmen taking all of her appointments - and her younger Associate was ecstatic to have the chance - and for once she wasn't completely attached to her journal. She was giving herself a day of physical and mental relaxation.

"Mel, how're the renovations going, by the way? You still want to do the party around the 1st, right?" This was party planning she could discuss without stressing herself out. Sweets and champagne for a closed room of close friends and elite customers? Cho could set that up with her eyes closed and her hands tied behind her back.

She had chosen a pale, fleshy pink color and as her girl finished up her hand massage, she looked at the bottle again. "Do you think this will be fine?" She asked, and the girl nodded with a smile. "What are you guys getting?" She asked, turning to look at her friends.

Try as she might, Melinda couldn’t quite quell the snort that escaped her; recent experience had taught her that it didn’t really matter what anyone said, all it took was for someone looking for a story or gossip and anything could become the wrong idea for someone.

“Mm, still want to do it,” she answered Cho and took a sip of the water she had been given. “Renovations are going according to plan. All I need is to come up with some names for the new cakes, so maybe have the party on Saturday the thirty-first, though I’m not sure where and then open the shop on extraordinarily on Monday the second with samples and tasters?”

This indulgence, this getting her nails done was something she loved but also something she rarely did. More often than not her fingers and hands were buried in dough or covered in batter or cream and she spent so much time cleaning her hands that any nail decorations wouldn’t last more than half an hour at most. Then there was the matter of what the customers could see, and she would rather let them see her naked, well-trimmed nails than have them wonder what any nail polish might be hiding. But there would be nothing like that for at least another week, and on Monday she even had plans to leave London, so she had decided to go all the way, though still keep it classy. “Dark red,” she told her and glanced down at her fingers that were slowly but surely taking on a rather different look from what she was used to.

Cho giggled - quietly but excitedly - when Melinda answered. Nodding without shaking her hands, she said, "That sounds great. And what if we made up the rooftop real nice? We move the furniture and I'll bring in some of the lovely sets we have for Charming Parties, it'll be beautiful, ya ken?"

"Dark red? Very va va voom of you," Cho replied, sending her friends a bright grin. Maybe the red was a good sign that Melinda was feeling better about the whole Oliver thing.

"I wish some time I could just do something silly with my nails - like bright blue or black or something," she mused out loud. "I'm pretty sure the higher echelons of Wizarding society wouldn't take too kindly to it, though."

Melinda considered Cho’s suggestion; she did love the rooftop. If any place would truly in her spirit –and Cho’s for that matter – it would be the rooftop. Personal but without letting people fully into her home. “Put up wards to keep it warm and a buffet table that will double as display table? Samples of everything from the shop? I’ve gotten a connection set up with a wine merchant, so I’ll now champagne or sparkling wine to go with the wedding cake tastings. Don’t know if you can use that in your planning?”

Lolling her head back against the chair, she rolled her eyes with a slightly exasperated chuckle. “Va va voom?” she pffed and shook her head. “Yeah, no, taking a break from both that,” she looked over at Marietta, “and the mushy for a good while. I just have two more weeks where I don’t have to worry about appearing to be hiding dirt under my finger nails.”

Marietta sat to the side of her two friends and just listened as they went back and forth about the improvements Sweet Nothings was undergoing. "I'm sure whenever and wherever you choose to have your grand re-opening it will be grand. How could it not be with Cho at the helm?"

She really didn't have much to add to the conversation. Until Cho said something about not wanting to choose dark colors. "Why would they not care for dark colors?" she asked. Her clients tended to appreciate the darker colors and many of them were from those higher echelons. "I'm going with a basic black with glitter high lights."
