Dora was pissed. It wasn’t the first time this week, and she didn’t think it would be the last. It was just the way her life was going this week, it seemed.

So she did something that was probably stupid. She Apparated over to where she knew, from the shop’s books, her brother Hyperion lived. She was livid, and she wanted to give him a piece of her mind in person rather than in writing that he could and probably would ignore. She pounded on the door with her fist. She hadn’t even bothered to change out of her lounging clothes she’d changed into when she’d gotten home from work.

“I know you’re in there, and you are going to talk to me, Peri!” she shouted at the closed door.

Hyperion was reading one of the Muggle newspapers in his study on the third floor when the dulcet tones of his sister's rage floated up to him. "Oh aye, I just had to get that charm installed on the door so I could hear people arrive," he muttered, placing the paper down on the desk before grabbing his wand, and then prudently a few other defensive items. "Slinky," he called, rather more curtly than was usual. "I want you to go to Montgomery Castle and stay there until I call for you, is that understood?" He waited several moments before a rather accusatory crack confirmed that the elf had followed his command.

With a final sigh, he disapparated down to the front door and opened it, surveying his sister for a moment. "How may I be of assistance," he asked her in a completely deadpan voice.

Dora glared at him. Her glare was quite fearsome. She fisted her hands at her sides so she wouldn't just hex him, though the temptation to slug him right in his smug face was incredibly strong. "You," she said, enunciating in the clipped fashion that indicated her anger but also told anyone who really knew her that she wasn't completely around the bend yet, or she'd be speaking in a thick accent, "owe me a fucking apology."

She poked the middle of his chest with a finger, taking a step closer to him, not intimidated by his height in the least. She never had been. "You are such a self righteous arse, Peri. Believing what you want to believe and never listening to what people try to tell you. You know nothing of my life and my choices and you have NO right to judge me. None!" Her skin felt like it was vibrating with magic, and she took a deep breath, though she was far from calm and wouldn't reach that state for a long time.

Hyperion merely arched an eyebrow at her as she treated him to her most cutting glare. It probably wasn't the brightest move, but even after everything that had happened, he still had a deep seated nose to yank his sister's chains as much as humanly possible. "What would you like me to apologise for," he asked her urbanely. "There is apparently so much. Being a Gryffindor, not holding to purist ideologies, being an Auror, not being a dark wizard, take your pick sister dear."

He looked down at her finger and back at her. "Naturally I am," he said unapologetically. "One must follow one's nature after all." He ignored the rest of her statement, because really, what was the point in arguing with her about it. Instead he stepped to one side and gestured for her to enter the house. "Before we begin discussing the fact that you are apparently the only person on the planet allowed to judge other people, why don't you step off the street before you do something that would allow our mother to gleefully lock you away in the deepest, darkest box she can find and throw away the key, aye?"

"For being a fucking arse," she growled. He was such a fucking jerk. It had always rubbed her wrong, even when they'd been close; he was such a stubborn jerk, so unwilling to listen. This was why they'd always ended up fighting, and why she'd never gotten to tell him what really happened the night she'd become a death eater.

She deliberately bumped her shoulder against his as she entered. She really didn't care about politeness anymore. "Fuck you," she said to his words about their mother.

She whirled around once inside, the wealth he was living in while she'd scrapped by for so long chafing. Chafing badly. There had been times she'd been homeless for a few days before she got the money, or rented a room for a night with her last bit of money while on the circuit. "I'm not judging, I'm only telling the truth. You're a stubborn jerk and damn it, just listen for a change!"

"Listen here, brother," she said, her brogue thickening alarmingly to anyone who knew her. "I want you t'actually give me five minutes of fucking silence so I can tell you what actually happened. You say you still care, so give me just FIVE minutes if you really do. After that, you can go to hell for all I care if you feel the same way about me."

"Of course I'm a fucking arse," Hyperion told her with complete sincerity. "I was raised to be emotionally constipated, just like you, so I fall back on being a sarcastic prick when all else fails. I do it, you do it, our parents do it, our siblings do it." He tilted his head at her and smiled mirthlessly. "Behold the joys of generations of selective inbreeding, sister."

He moved out of the way, vastly amused at the shoulder bump from his diminutive sister. Not that he wasn't aware that she could be quite lethal if she needed to be - her records in the Aurory made that abundantly clear - but more because it was such a pointless gesture. "I'd rather not, incest is definitely not my thing."

"Welcome to Hallow House," he said to her as he quietly shut the door, watching her whirl around to look at the abundant displays of wealth. He didn't even bother to respond, merely looked at her. Afterall he was of the experience that whenever someone said 'I'm not judging' that they in fact usually were.

Hyperion arched an eyebrow at the sudden explosion of brogue, but remained silent, gesturing for her to continue.

"Well you don't have to be one all the time! I'm not one all the time!" She huffed, more than highly annoyed. "And we're not nearly so inbred as most of the world." Their mother, okay, a bit, but the Montgomeries most certainly weren't inbred like the rest of pureblood society.

His sarcasm just made Dora want to whirl around and strangle him. She let out an inarticulate sound, hands fisting at her sides. "As if," she said scathingly, looking him over. Her brother might be attractive, but eww. Ew ew ew ew ew ew ew ew EWWWWW.

"Yeah, fucking nice digs," she spat. It hadn't been the most prudent thing for him to say. She didn't know if he knew her circumstances before some months ago, but it was a blow a bit below the belt to someone who had lived hand to mouth til recently.

She waited for a moment, taking deep deliberate breaths as she waited to see if he was going to speak or let her say her piece for a change. "They came back," she said, arms crossing over her chest, fingertips at her shoulders, protectively. "After the funeral," she couldn't say his name now, no, she couldn't, "that night. They came back. Father was gone. You weren't there. Mother was, and us. And they wanted something." Her eyes were hard, her voice thick with their childhood accent. "You remember what happened when they wanted something before that." Her lip curled at him a bit. "I wasn't about to let them kill Sephe the way they killed him. I couldn't do it." Especially not after he'd died on her watch. In her arms, even. Her heart was still broken and raw there.

"Perhaps not," Hyperion replied glibly. "But I do it anyway." He arched an eyebrow at her for a moment. "A large portion of the planet's population gets on fine without having grandparents who were cousins, dear." He managed, after a moment of intense concentration to stifle a laugh at the way she reacted.

He merely lifted an eyebrow at the way she reacted to his house. "Well," he said offhandedly. "It's not as big as the one Persephone's going to inherit, but then she is the favourite grandchild."

He narrowed his eyes, all pretense of mockery gone. "Really," he asked flatly. "I've asked mother, and Apollo, and Persephone dozens of times about what happened that night. Persephone remembers being scared, Apollo says he doesn't remember anything, and mother gave me the scar on my forehead for pressing the issue. Why is this the first I've heard of this?" He stared at his sister for a long moment, trying to discern whether she was lying, which to his surprise, it seemed she wasn't. "So you joined the Death Eaters out of some twisted sense of fidelis," he asked, his voice rising. "You wanted to be an Auror and instead you threw your lot in with Riddle and his band of merry psychopaths because you thought we couldn't protect Persephone and Apollo? That was your only option?"

Her nails dug painfully into the palms of her hands, reminding her she couldn't just strangle him and leave his stubborn body on the floor to rot. Gods, he practiced being infuriating, and she hated it more now than she ever had in her life.

Her lips pursed, tightened, white with anger.

"Oh so what, should I have let Fenrir Greyback," she spit the name out like a curse, "rip out Sephe's throat then and there, huh? Because that was what he was going to do. Or perhaps worse. You know he liked them young." Dora sneered, voice rising to yell back at him. "Mother wasn't going to do shite, just like she didn't the day Persy was attack." She gulped down the air at the feel of his name leaving her lips. "I said I'd do it so he didn't kill her and then everyone else down the list, right then and there! And they were going to!" She gestured wildly, shouting now, eyes bright. "So there was no 'PROTECTING' them at that moment, y'berk. It was then or never, right there in the ruddy fucking library. It was that or watch them all die, and I'm sorry, but I'm not as cold as mother, and I just couldn't do it. I was seventeen and I just couldn't do it."

"I am not at all suggesting that you should have let Greyback kill one of our siblings," he replied, each vowel clipped with repressed anger. "I'm simply wondering why you didn't feel you could contact me and let me know what the fuck had happened? I'm sure you were being watched but for Merlin's sake, was there no opportunity?"

He let her finish her tirade before stepping forward to stare at her incredulously. "I understand obviously that you were pretty fucked over by all the shit you went through, you just have to read your file to understand that, but you let me think-" he paused and stepped back, covering his eyes for a moment. "You let me think for years that you willingly joined the Death Eaters? You let me assume when I could have been helping you instead of harbouring this immense fucking rage? I mean every man and his fucking dog knows how mother feels about the dark arts, and I take after her, BUT DID YOU NOT THINK THAT I WOULD HAVE UNDERSTOOD? DID YOU REALLY THINK THAT I'M SUCH A CUNT THAT I'D REJECT YOU MAKING FOR A DECISION THAT OUR BLIGHTED FUCKING MOTHER WASN'T BRAVE ENOUGH TO MAKE? OR THAT I WOULDN'T HAVE MADE IT TOO IF I WERE THERE?"

"Obviously thinking your sister was willingly a Death Eater is nothing compared to actually being forced into being a Death Eater, but for fuck's sake Panda, could you not have told me? Or did you just assume that mother would do anything but nearly kill me when I pressed her on the issue?" He turned away from her and stomped up the stairs, heading towards the room that he'd always had set aside for her, fairly sure that she'd follow him - to murder him for yelling at her if nothing else.

"Oh, you'd be surprised. Aunt Bellatrix kept me locked up on my own except for taking me out with her for several months. And then they kept a close eye on me, and on Tristan. I didn't have a wand half the time. I was brought out to play whenever they wanted entertainment or wanted me to do something." There had been pain, and fear, and a degree of brainwashing that she'd mostly shaken off but still sometimes took work. "The only thing I ever managed to do was keep an ambush from your heels a time or two, and that cost me favors you don't even want to know about."

She let out a loud, inarticulate sound of rage; the alternative was to hex him, and as tempting as it was, she refrained. She grabbed something from the table near the door and lobbed it at the wall to one side of him, purposefully missing him as he strode off.

"I FUCKING TRIED TO TELL YOU, OR DON'T YOU REMEMBER ME COMING TO YOU AFTER I GOT OUT OF FUCKING AZKABAN? YOU TOLD ME YOU DIDN'T WANT EXCUSES, SO EXCUSE YOU, YOU FUCKING BRAT, I LEFT." She'd done what he wanted, shut up and left and finished training with Filius, then left for the continent at first opportunity. It had been such a fight with him, but she'd given in and let him keep his black and white views.

"You remember that fight? So you only have your fucking self to blame for not knowing, Hyperion. So fuck off." Magic shimmered around her, roiling, and she clenched her fists in an effort to keep from letting it go completely. She'd not had a completely uncontrolled bout of accidental magic in a while, but this was close. She refused to chase after him like a repentant puppy -- fuck him, he could come to her for once in his fucking life. She whirled around, magic still roiling, and started stomping toward the door.

Hyperion lifted his eyebrows. "So Tristan was forcibly conscripted as well, was he? Interesting." He looked at her for a moment and then shrugged. "Then thank you, I guess. I can only imagine how many innocents had to die for that."

"Oh well apologies," he replied scathingly. "I wasn't up to having a conversation with someone who I thought was a willing Death Eater who'd just got released from Azkaban for murder an uncomfortably high number of people. I forget that you're the only one in this fucking family who's ever allowed to fucking get upset or irrational, my deepest apologies. He stood on the second floor landing and pinched his nose, wishing he could go back and smack some sense in her, but recognising that she'd probably end up killing him and being sent to Azkaban for the rest of her life - if their mother didn't contrive of someway to get the use of an Unforgivable sanctioned against her, so he let her go.

"Gods damn it, can't you hear your own hypocrisy, Peri?" She laughed, and it was a sharp, hard sound, brittle and perhaps even broken underneath. "You get pissed at me for not telling you, and then you get mad at me for telling you I tried to tell you and you didn't want to listen! Fucking decide! I tried, and it's not on me that you wouldn't listen. So get off your high fucking horse, you arse! You're not so great and mighty -- you made a fucking mistake too! Don't be mad at me because you shot your buttock off with your wand after someone told you not to put it in your pocket."

Oh how it incensed her! That he would be mad at her for coming to him, and then mad at her years later for not bothering to tell her -- he told her not to!

"Get your head out of your arse, you pillock, and go fuck yourself with something else that might leave you a little more open minded!" she shouted over her shoulder, and then she slammed the door so hard even the well built frame shook and the sound echoed through his house.

Let him bloody come to her next time. She was done trying to apologize and explain. It was his turn to find even a smidgen of humbleness and figure out that maybe, just maybe, he was wrong sometimes too. She was so bloody tired of apologizing for her very existence, especially to the family for whom she'd done the very things they villified her for.

She walked for a long time until she was calm enough to Apparate without splinching herself. If part of her was also hurt that he hadn't come after her, well, she would never admit it to anyone. Besides, she couldn't bear to cry right now, not when she was raw enough already. Instead, perhaps she'd go out for a drink.
