Only just barely glancing up from her purse, Alicia caught the hint of a smirk on Adrian’s face, before she followed him inside, still gathering up bits and pieces that she no longer needed. “Yeah, well, some of us work evenings and weekends, too,” she said, headed directly to his rubbish bin and disposed of three pacifiers, two unused disposable diapers, a pouch of dried out wet-wipes, a cracked make-up mirror, an empty nail polish bottle and a pile of 2001-2002 team rosters, before she looked up to take the bottle he was offering her.
“Lunch,” she said simply. “I need it, you haven’t had it and recent studies show that it’s healthy to keep work and living spaces separated.” Her gaze never wavered from his as she took a sip from the bottle and neatly put the lid back on. “Come on,” she said simply. “You’re being civil today and taking me out to lunch. My treat.”
