Entry tags:character: blaise zabini, character: pandora montgomery, character: richard summerby, character: tristan travers

Who: Pandora, nd all her acquaintances/friends who would come to a get together (Slytherin classmates, friends, relatives, etc). Please tag yourselves in!

What: little get together/party

Where: Rich's flat

When: evening, Wednesday December 17th [BACKDATED]

Rating: Probably SFW?

Rich had offered to hot the thing, so she'd provided him with as accurate a count of people who would come to the get-together as she could. With the holidays, it was an iffier prospect that usual, but she'd done her best. It was really nice of him to want to throw her a celebration for moving up in the ranks in their apprenticeship situation, and one she wanted to have. There were other Christmas parties, but not as many things like this in her life.

It had been a long time since someone wanted to celebrate something positive in her life in a public manner.

The trip to Paris had settled her somewhat, at least. England was no longer the bane it had been there for a while, and she made a mental note to get away a little more often. As weirdly attached as she was to this stupid island, her mental health required a break sometimes. Well, what mental health she possessed anyway.

She went up early to help Rich set everything up and wait for everyone to arrive. She smiled at the man fondly. "Thank you for hosting this, Rich," she told him.

The cleaning service and the caterers had done their smuggle version of holiday magic and the huge main room of the flat gleamed from polish and subdued holiday lights while the big table over by the windows was loaded with food and drink for the occasion. For a former furniture-maker's shop, it looked pretty good if he did say so himself.

"You put a lot of hard work into coming as far as you did as fast as you did. Not only should hard work be rewarded, but think of it as an incentive. The jump from journeyman to master will not be so easy, even for you. The celebration when you do will be epic compared to this. There aren't many of us left that keep to the old traditions, so we all tend to get together when a new master reaches rank."

He grinned. "Not to mention when I picked this big barn for my own, I couldn't help but notice the entertainment potentials of all this open space. Nice to break it in on something like this."

She pushed back her hair and smile at him. "Yes, I know it'll be a push, but it's a challenge I'm up for," Dora said. It was confidence but not arrogance. Dora knew how to work very hard, and this kind of trying was good for her, both body and mind, most days. She knew that if she kept at it, she'd make master eventually. "Though I have to say, I'll look forward to the celebration."

She nodded, eyes flickering around. She'd been here before, of course, but never for anything like this. "It is set up very nicely for entertaining," she agreed. "I'm glad I could help you break it in, as it were. I really should do al ittle more myself, but I've just been busy." Which was admittedly her excuse for a lot of things, but an accurate one.

Blaise wasn't sure what you brought to someone who was having a housewarming for a home that wasn't really theirs. Therefore he defaulted to the traditional bottle of wine that worked for any and every occasion.

Upon entering he placed the bottle down in the spot that seemed to be the most obvious and began to make his rounds. He wasn't sure whom he'd end up taking a decent amount of time with but he knew that whomever he found here would be someone he would easily have something in common with. At least he hoped that would be the case.

Tristan and Open

Were he being honest, Tristan wasn't sure he wanted to attend this function. It had nothing to do with Pandora and everything to do with himself. He wasn't in the celebratory mood, and he felt incredibly out of place both because he really wasn't one hundred percent sure what was going on and because he had to arrive on his own. He had on simple, dark green robes that were neither too casual nor too dressy, because no one had told him he had to dress in his finest robes (something he currently didn't have at that moment), and he thought he was filling out just a bit. He doubted he looked like a wraith, and he'd been sure to hide any dark circles under his eyes with an expert's skill with both a wand and a salve. But that didn't mean he felt comfortable arriving in a stranger's flat.

Tristan didn't have a flat warming present for that aspect of the party, but he doubted Pandora would hold it against him. He was saving the money he'd begun earning at Wingbeat for Christmas presents for a few people, and he'd decided to save it to put toward what he wanted to give Pandora instead of taking some of it to divide into a present for her flat that she may neither need nor want. He was taking a gamble, of course, but he also spent enough time in her flat to know what she had to know that he preferred his Christmas present idea to picking up something she didn't have but didn't think was necessary. Although he'd briefly considered a certificate for cooking lessons just as a joke.

As he looked around the flat, taking in the decoration, Tristan wondered if maybe he should have brought a host present. The problem with that, however, was that he wasn't entirely sure who was hosting the event, Pandora or this Rich fellow. Regardless, he was a little bit thankful he'd told Titus to be alert for any kind of distress call, mostly in the form of an offhand remark he thought he could either slip into conversation or utter under his breath. It may have been paranoid of him to have an escape plan, but he didn't think it was unnecessary. After all, for all he knew, he'd need it from a particularly dull conversation or if the party went on far longer than he'd be comfortable with without any other foreseeable way to leave. Or maybe he could pretend to be allergic to something or act like he'd had just a bit too much to drink, he considered, as he spotted a table laden with food and drink. With another glance around the room, he made his way to that table, deciding to at least put something in his hand to prevent any potential fidgeting from happening, though the paranoid part of him wasn't sure he'd really eat or drink anything spread out for the evening.

Speechifying & Presenting Blades to Pandora

Rich used the remote to turn down the music - muggle magic of a sort and called for attention in the traditional fashion with knife on wineglass chiming through the room.

"A brief interruption," he called out with a voice trained to be heard over dragons or across the Quidditch pitch, "to thank you all for coming to help me welcome Pandora to the neighborhood - she has a right smart flat upstairs in the other half of the building, you should get her to show it off if you haven't seen it yet. Also, tonight is a milestone for her in her study of the wizarding sword, which is one of the many things that has been keeping her so busy of late."

"The sword has been with us as long as the wand. Everyone has heard of Merlin's Sword in the Stone, or Godric Gryffindor's sword that Harry Potter and Neville Longbottom used against He-Who-Pushes-Up-Daisies. But in these modern times, the art of the wizarding sword has fallen out of favor for the more easily carried wand. I was fortunate that my family was traditional enough to see I learned that art, and even more fortunate that in Pandora I found a willing and able student to pass that art on through."

He pulled two boxes out and set them on the end of the table. "So to keep this shorter than a History of Magic lesson, for Pandora I have a new sword belt with the buckle of the Journeyman which she now will wear instead of the knot of the Novice, and her new Goblin-forged long and short blades. To those of you who don't study the sword, this is one of those quaint old ceremonies. To those of us who do, this is as big a step as when she qualified for the International Dueling circuit."

Rich motioned Dora closer and with obvious practice put the sword belt around her waist and put each blade in its scabbard. "Your turn for a few words if you'd like," he said softly to her.

Dora let a little smile play about her lips, more pleased with herself than she'd let on outwardly. She'd kept relatively quiet about her new apprenticeship, though when people asked she'd give them the gist. A few people who'd come to her place had seen the swords sitting out, if she'd been cleaning them or working with them.

She stood still as Richard put her new sword belt and swords about her waist. This at least they'd practiced so there would be no bumping or jostling along the way. Wouldn't that be embarrassing, right? She gave him another pleased smile.

She bit her lip slightly, not sure what she should say really. "Thank you all for coming. Despite not saying much on this, it really does mean a lot, and I'm glad you all took the time out to attend. It's been an honor to train and to continue to train, and I look forward to some distant point in the future where we might celebrate me elevating yet again." It would take a lot of work, but she was more than willing to do that. "Until then, let's enjoy!"
