Marcus quirked an eyebrow up lightly at the statement, not sure what to make of it, and ignoring another seed of hope that it planted, nestled along a number of others from other moments when Roger had said or done something that seemed like they could possibly mean something brewing between them that was more than just friendship. The knowledge that Roger was a flirt and treated most everyone like this helped him with the repression of those sorts of thoughts most of the time.
Shaking his head lightly, Marcus said, "Unprofessional only begins to cover it." He didn't think he'd been so mortified by a conversation in years, especially by the locker room conversation that had followed that statement. Needless to say, he'd been the first to leave practice that day, in an effort to get as far away from the uncomfortable topic as quickly as he could.
Taken aback by the intensity of Roger's response, he blinked twice before saying quietly, "Thank you." Because that had been a compliment, he was pretty sure, and even if he didn't agree with the sentiment, he couldn't let it go unacknowledged. "You're just as good as I am though," he added, because it was important that the other man didn't let his own accomplishments go unrecognized.
With a small snort of laughter, Marcus answered dryly, "Moran, apparently."
