Roger tilted his head to look at at the various gloves on display, wondering which grade of dragonhide gloves to buy himself. There were those who swore black and blue that the hides of different dragons had slightly different properties, but he'd never been totally sure if that were true. Still, he liked the smell of the hide and he desperately needed a new pair, so he grabbed a couple of different types and turned around, nearly bumping into the person behind him.

"Oh Merlin, I'm so sorry," he said, feeling himself blush. "I didn't see you there! I mean, not that you're missable or anything." He closed his eyes, wishing he hadn't made that last statement. "It's Krum, right?"

It was another off week for the Magpies, leading right into the holiday break. It felt very odd to Viktor, rather surreal, if he were going to be completely honest. Not that they didn't still have some practices, though they were scaled back for the holiday, at least, and then ramped up directly after to get back in top form.

But for now, he was going to try to get that shopping done that he hadn't gotten done last off week. A lot of his shopping was custom work, he would admit; he might as well use the money he'd worked so hard for over the years. But there were other, little things that he needed to get, and he was hoping to find a small something for every teammate he had right now. Even with his troublesome Chasers, they had all worked very hard this year. He was looking at bracers, idly going through his mental list, when he was mildly jostled.

He glanced over, waving a hand reassuringly. "No problem," he said. "Da, and you are Davies, right?" With the Arrows. Viktor knew his fellow Quidditch people even if he'd never met them outside of a game.

Roger grinned at the (extremely attractive) man. "I am yeah," he said, extending a hand lazily. "I don't think we've ever met properly," he added with another grin. He tilted his head for a moment and then smiled. "I was just thinking about the Magpies the other day actually," he replied with a disarming smile. "How're they dealing with two weeks off in a row?"

He looked down at the items in his hands and up at Viktor. "So I take it you're out doing a touch of last minute Christmas shopping too? My favourite thing about Qudditich players is that we all get Quidditch related things for people for gifts."

Viktor reached out and shook the other man's hand. "Haven't had the chance off the pitch, no," he said. Certainly teams shook hands after a game, but they didn't always go out after a game or associate with each other a lot. There were plenty of others he didn't know personally, though others he did call friend, like Finbar and Alicia, though she wasn't a player.

"They think I'm crazy for having them keep practicing," Viktor said with a faint grin. "Though of course everyone will scale back now that the holidays are here." Directly after though he'd have their noses back at the proverbial grindstone. He would have them back in that top spot as soon as he could, or they'd hear why not.

"Oh yes. Though today is mostly for the team, as I got little finished last week." It was not unusual for him to buy small gifts for teammates. "My children, most of theirs is already under the tree or waiting for Father Christmas to leave it there."

Roger smiled again, Viktor's grasp was firm but not bruising - all too often male Quidditch players seemed to feel the need to prove their masculinity when shaking hands, and Roger was always pleased to meet another person who didn't. "It's a shame really," he said, unconciously turning the charm up to eleven. "You seem like an awfully nice chap, plus I'm quite good friends with your team mate Orla, so it's a tad odd that we've never met." He blinked several times and shut his mouth, forcing himself to stop rambling like an idiot.

He gave a Gallic shrug. "It's important to keep in form, even if it is the holidays. "My coach seems to be of the same opinion, which is driving a couple of my team mates a bit nutty." He glanced at Viktor from beneath his lashes, the hint of a smile touching his lips. "I'm sure your team doesn't complain too hard about working under you though, does it?"

"Ah, that makes sense. Get the big ones out of the way first," he said approvingly, his interest piqued over the mention of children. "I just have to buy for my mother and a few of my friends, so I'm fairly sorted as well." He chuckled softly at the mention of Father Christmas. "You're a good dad then, my mum always made sure the good presents were from her and Santa just gave me underwear and socks and cheap things like that."

"Yes, Orla was your teammate, wasn't she," Viktor said easily, rhetorically. He relied on Orla for knowledge of the Arrows as well as some of the tactics from other teams, just like he depended on other team members for other information on other teams some of them had once been a part of.

"Ah vell, mine do complain a fair amount too. But it is for their own good, and they vill see it or they won't." Viktor shrugged faintly as well. He snorted faintly. "Obviously you haff never met my Chasers," he said wryly. It was public knowledge that his Chasers were the weakest part of his team, though they had much improved already this season.

"Oh no, Father Christmas always has at least one good gift," he said with a shake of the head. Even when things had been incredibly tight growing up, there'd always been something from Father Christmas for him and his sibs. "As vell as the needed things, of course."

"She was, yeah," Roger agreed with a considered grin. "I'm sure she fills you in on all sorts of interesting tidbits from when she used to play for the Arrows eh?" He chuckled slightly and raised his hands in a placating manner. "But honestly, she and I are still excellent friends. Do you two get on as well?" He smiled at Viktor, internally awaiting his answer with baited breath - Orla's approval or disapproval counted for much to Roger when it came to possibly friends.

"Well, complaining is good for the soul I'm sure," he replied philosophically. "Plus, as you say it's for their own good." He stifled a laugh at the way his coquettish comment had gone completely unnoticed. "Your chasers are uh..." he searched around for a diplomatic word. "Well they're definitely improving if nothing else, it's hard to keep on form sometimes, I'll admit. I took a bludger to the ribs earlier this year because I was a little bit in love with a teammate - I think that speaks for what we're all like."

"Ah, very good of him," Roger replied, his eyes twinkling. "What do you want from Father Christmas then?"

"No more than normal," Viktor said with a faint grin, not wanting to get Orla in trouble. She was a top rate player, and he considered her a friend of sorts, as much as he could with someone he was in charge of. It made for a lonely position sometimes. "I think we do. She is a good voman, and I think, a friend." Impetuous at times, but that would temper with more experience.

"Improving is a vord for it, da," he said, voice full of amusement. "They are much better than they vere." Which showed in where they'd been ranked before their two week down time. That was a little unfortunate. "Ha da, ven you are not focussed, bludgers do take advantage." He and Mikhail had always been terribly careful to keep such distractions distinctly off the field. He felt a pang -- after all this time, he still missed him, even though they had not been a couple at the time of Mikhail's death, and hadn't for some time.

Viktor grinned and shrugged faintly. "Me? There is very little I am vanting, I think." Hermione seemed like a very distant hope and dream, as always; he can't say he'd completely given up, but he knew it wasn't something to hold out for right now either. "I haff a healthy family and a good team. There is not much more to be vanting, except perhaps for my ex-vife to stay far away, and she is doing that right now, so I cannot be complaining too much."
