RP: Home from the task
Who: Rolf and Rose

What: Rolf is coming home from his task.

Where: Rolf’s place? Or possibly Rose’s

When: Thursday December 4

Rating: NSFW – language? For now at least.

Rolf still felt dirty, despite the several showers and scouring soup that left his skin dried out. He’d been cleared of any Dragon Blood contamination or effects, though, which was always important after having to assist with the slaughter of a dragon. Well, slaughter was over-dramatic. The dragon had died naturally, and they’d harvested everything they possibly could. It was the best way they could, without endangering the populations of dragons, many of which were already endangered.

He sent a quick journal message to Rose just before the Portkey arrived, bringing in a few more dragon keepers and sending out the batch of keepers and magizoologists tagged this time around. Rolf had only had this duty a couple of times, mostly because he traveled and so the area he would covered changed often. Now that he was at a more permanent address, it would probably happen a couple of times a year.

He was tired and felt wrung out; it was always sad to see such a great beast felled and help in dismantling it. A least this time it was a natural death. He looked forward to going home and showering yet again and relaxing with Rose. He Apparated home from the Ministry, wondering if Rose would be here or if he’d find her at her place.

It was one thing to be away on a mission, being away from Rolf, missing him fiercely though finding that focusing on work made the longing bearable. Being the one to stay behind, while Rolf went out? That was quite a different matter, and Rose suddenly had a completely newfound understanding for the lonely feeling Rolf had experienced the times she had been gone. Sure, Dennis was there, and that was always great, but curling up with him – while very nice indeed – just wasn’t the same, and she got the feeling that Dennis was beginning to feel a little crowded.

The few journal messages had been like a soothing balm, and Rose couldn’t help but wonder if it would be easier to be the one staying behind if she had known that he was enjoying what he was doing. Probably it would, because all she wanted to do, was get him away from that job that made his words on the page brim with frustration and sometimes even disgust. So when that final message had come through, that he was coming home, she had dived back into the work she had been doing at his place, wanting to get the books out of the way so they wouldn’t have to waste time on them until next week, when they had had plenty of time say ‘hello’.

When the POP of Rolf’s Apparation reached her, she was still in the old shirt – it smelled like him – she had found in his closet after her shower, the Bestiary’s books spread out on the dining table, where she was scribbling furiously with one hand, while the other hand and arm was filling in for a kitty bed for Bast. She earned an annoyed growl from the cat when she eased her arm out from under it and got up, only to stop when she saw Rolf. “Hi,” she said, her face lighting up in a bright smile, she was so happy to see him, though also concerned about the fatigue she could see in his face.

The tension and stress he'd been feeling just bled out of Rolf when he saw her sitting there at his table, covered in his cat and wearing what looked like his shirt. Certainly his week had been long and stressful, but seeing her eased all of that. It made him happy. She made him happy. He just stood there and smiled at the sight for a long moment, drinking it in.

"Ah, so she hasn't suffocated you yet!" he said, teasing, but took several long-legged strides forward to pull her into his arms. "Hello there, love." He ducked his head and kissed her, feeling a little more of the week ease away by being able to hold her. "It has been one long week without you, let me tell you!" he told her fervently, kissing her quickly again.

"So how have you been?" he asked, smoothing back her hair. They'd talked on journals, but he liked hearing it from her own lips, and besides, there were some things that didn't translate as well as just words on a page, like tone of voice. And he loved her voice.

Both of them – everything – paused for a beat, and then Rolf was walking and Rose was in his arms. “Not for lack of trying,” she grinned, chuckling into his kiss and tightening her arms around his neck. Wearing his shirt and sleeping in his bed the past couple of nights because the smell of him made it a little easier to be without him couldn’t even begin to compare to actually having him here, holding him, seeing him, tasting him. “Oh, I’ve missed you so much,” she managed against his lips, and then he was kissing her again.

Her eyes fluttered shut as she leaned into his touched, though she opened them quickly; she didn’t want to miss looking at him, wasn’t ready to look away from him just yet. “Pretending not to be bored,” she quipped, reaching up to put her own hand on top of his. “I’ve been fine, but missed you horribly. Bast and I’ve been commiserating together, taking bets on when you’d be home and drawing straws for who got to greet you first, coddle you, bathe you, and all that. You know, same ol’, same ol’?” Her eyes were still shining with the joy of being near him again, but the concern was beginning to peek through. “How was your week, dragul meu?” she asked, her voice dropping to a whisper. “How are you?”

It did his heart good to hear she'd missed him. Though he tried his hardest, there were times especially this time around that he missed her quite dreadfully. Probably because though time consuming and disgusting, it did leave rather a lot of room for thought. There had been a few interesting times, but still plenty of in between time to almost be mopey. He'd avoided it, from his promise to her, but it hadn't been easy.

"Oh no, a bored Rosie! We can't have that, now," he said, shaking his head. "You might decide to take over the world, and then I'd have to join you in your diabolical rule!" His grin was teasing.

"I have missed you dreadfully as well." He sighed and shrugged his shoulders, a somewhat stiff movement. "It was a long, long week. And faintly gross, though morbidly interesting at times? Sometimes getting a look at the.. inner workings.. can be interesting. If smelly and gross." He knew he was being repetitive, and he knew that meant he was tired. "I also still feel dirty, and I'm stiff all over. But I'm home now, and so I'm very happy."
