WHO: Ernie & Theo
WHEN: Thursday 4th Dec
WHERE: Finnigan's and then Draco's
WHAT: Theo & Ernie hang out
RATING: TBD
STATUS: Closed; in progress

Finnigan's was usually busy, but it wasn't so busy on a late Thursday afternoon that Theo couldn't grab a convenient place in the Nook to wait for Ernie as agreed. It reminded him of their first meetings and how hesitant he'd been about letting Ernie get close to him. If anyone told him even back then that he'd be here waiting for Ernie to appear only a short while after another date and his first kiss from Ernie, even if that kiss had been on the cheek, he would likely have hexed them and asked questions later. He'd been of the opinion that no one would want to date without falling into bed straight away, but Ernie happily proved him wrong.

The other boy was courteous and understanding and hadn't pushed Theo on anything, had in fact put the brakes on and paid attention when issues had popped up. He'd managed the near impossible and become a place of safety in Theo's mind, and it was this trust between them more than anything that had allowed Theo to stay where he was when Ernie had dropped the kiss on him at Dean's gallery showing rather than rabbit off like a hare with the hounds after it. Okay, so a large part of him had been scared, but the point was that he hadn't thought that Ernie would do anything to hurt him and he'd been right. They'd actually gone out again since then, which was amazing in itself, because Theo hadn't told Ernie why it was that he didn't like to sit with his back to the door, didn't like it when people touched him, didn't like innuendo and crude language. Sure, the times that Theo had blacked out only to realise he'd run away to Ernie's house might have tipped Ernie off, but the blond had never asked and Theo had yet to say and he still seemed to want to spend time with him.

Ernie wasn't going to hurt him, but on the other hand, was he any good for Ernie? He played with the rim of his glass of juice as he sat in thought waiting for the very subject of his musings to come in through the door.

Ernie had worked the last Sunday, which meant that he had a weekday off for once to run some errands. With Christmas right around the corner, he had quite a few people to shop for, but it was one of the more fun errands around. He didn't mind going around, wondering what his friends would and wouldn't like, and stopping to fetch some ingredients for those who had certain favourite foods that he knew how to make.

The day off wasn't the only reason for the spring in his step, though, nor was it the seasonal decor or chill in the air (yes, though Ernie loved nothing more than to curl up inside where it was warm, it was still nice to walk outside when there was just a bit of chill to remind him that winter was on its way). As he stepped into Finnigan's, pulled at the scarf that was wrapped around his neck and looked around, he spotted Theodore in what he'd privately come to think of as their spot, in The Nook. His face warmed with something other than the indoor heat and spread to his chest. This was the other reason why he was so jolly this season.

"Hey there," he said, leaning against the door jamb of the small area, his hands tucking into his jacket pockets (and taking care not to jostle the miniaturized packages he'd placed in an inner pocket). He smiled down at Theodore. "I hope you weren't waiting long."

Theo looked up when the door went and saw Ernie come in, de-scarfing himself and seeking Theo out. He smiled as soon as they made eye contact and if he'd known about the warmth that spread through Ernie's chest he would have been able to say he felt the same.

"Hi." he responded, watching Ernie lean up against the door. "Not very long." he said, tilting his semi-full glass to show as such. "Can I get you a drink?" he asked, standing up and indicating for Ernie to take a seat beside him. It was awkward not knowing what to do, if he should hug Ernie because some part of him really wanted to or something else entirely. He decided on keeping his distance for now, always the safest option in his experience.

When Theodore stood up, Ernie had a vision of himself stepping over, sliding his hands around the other man's waist, and pulling him into a nice kiss hello. In a blink the vision was gone, but he set the thought aside and thought Maybe someday...

"I'm fine, thank you," he said, moving to take the proferred seat with a sigh. His legs were already getting sore from a day of shopping so it was nice to sit for a bit. "But don't rush on my account. I could use a rest. What are you drinking?"

Theo sat back down when Ernie did, maybe a little closer to the other space than he'd been before he'd stood up. Ernie was warm despite having just been out in the cold and Theo fought not to snuggle in against him.

"Just apple juice." he advised, tilting the glass to look into it and then tipping it Ernie's way to show him, semi-offering a sip if he wanted it. "Are you okay?" he wanted to know. "Tired? Did you want to go home, we could meet up another time if it's better for you?" he asked, all concern and worry in a way that clearly showed Ernie's importance to him. He wasn't normally so transparent about his worry but he couldn't help himself this time around.

"A little tired, but nowhere near ready to quit," he established quickly. He'd been looking forward to spending more time with his friend for days and didn't want him to think he didn't want to be here. "I just haven't sat down for over an hour, is all."

As if to match actions to words, he stretched out his legs and crossed his ankles, unconsciously moving his toes around so that they wouldn't feel cramped in his winter shoes.

"Christmas crowds are always a little bonkers, and a simple errand takes ten times as long to do. But on the plus side, I'm almost finished my shopping. And how's your day been?"

That made sense and hushed Theo's paranoia making him relax, but he still felt for Ernie having been on his feet all day. "We can stay here for a while." he assured, not about to make Ernie get up and do things just yet and content enough to sit in the warm quiet of The Nook and just be beside the blond.

"I had a half shift at What the Book and I've just been here otherwise, so not much." he admitted. "I haven't done much Christmas shopping myself." He added, although he tended to make his own gifts for people and rarely went all out with decorations and the like. Here was something he could share with Ernie though, a little bit of himself that he hoped made up for the fact that he was too repressed and weird to give physical affection out so easily. "I don't really celebrate Christmas so I've just got presents to get and that'll be me done." he said with a shrug, not making a big deal of the way his hand moved to seek out Ernie's and touch fingertip to fingertip, asking if it was okay to hold hands again. That much he could do, and more than that, had wanted to since he'd ended his shift at work.
