Finnigan's was usually busy, but it wasn't so busy on a late Thursday afternoon that Theo couldn't grab a convenient place in the Nook to wait for Ernie as agreed. It reminded him of their first meetings and how hesitant he'd been about letting Ernie get close to him. If anyone told him even back then that he'd be here waiting for Ernie to appear only a short while after another date and his first kiss from Ernie, even if that kiss had been on the cheek, he would likely have hexed them and asked questions later. He'd been of the opinion that no one would want to date without falling into bed straight away, but Ernie happily proved him wrong.
The other boy was courteous and understanding and hadn't pushed Theo on anything, had in fact put the brakes on and paid attention when issues had popped up. He'd managed the near impossible and become a place of safety in Theo's mind, and it was this trust between them more than anything that had allowed Theo to stay where he was when Ernie had dropped the kiss on him at Dean's gallery showing rather than rabbit off like a hare with the hounds after it. Okay, so a large part of him had been scared, but the point was that he hadn't thought that Ernie would do anything to hurt him and he'd been right. They'd actually gone out again since then, which was amazing in itself, because Theo hadn't told Ernie why it was that he didn't like to sit with his back to the door, didn't like it when people touched him, didn't like innuendo and crude language. Sure, the times that Theo had blacked out only to realise he'd run away to Ernie's house might have tipped Ernie off, but the blond had never asked and Theo had yet to say and he still seemed to want to spend time with him.
Ernie wasn't going to hurt him, but on the other hand, was he any good for Ernie? He played with the rim of his glass of juice as he sat in thought waiting for the very subject of his musings to come in through the door.
