Melinda chuckled contently when Oliver pulled her closer. “It wouldn’t be your flat I’d be there to visit,” she assured him. Yes, she had a nice flat and yes she liked to keep it neat and tidy, but that was just her and because the dining room doubled as conference room when she had consultations and tasting sessions with her customers. Of course, it did make her worry a bit on Oliver’s behalf, because the more she heard about his flat, the less she believed that it could be good for him to live in a place like that.
“I do want you to visit more,” she smiled, her eyes drawn to how easily her fingers just moved with his. “But I’d love to visit you more, too. My favourite childhood memory..?” Melinda drew her feet up and let her knees come to rest on Oliver’s thigh, her index finger gently tracing across the palm of his warm hand as she considered his request. “I was… I must have been four or five years old and it was in the middle of summer, I think. I know the sun was shining and it was warm so I didn’t have to wear shoes.” Thinking back had her pause, her smile turning fond at the memory. “We were at the cottage just outside Puddlemere, because mum was working on her cookbook and the kitchen there had just the look that was needed for the pictures, and dad was going through the greenhouse to get all the herbs that were ready gathered and take them back so they could be prepared for the Apothecary. There was a lawn between the cottage and the greenhouse, and when they were both done we had a picnic with the biscuit joconde imprimé mum had made and fresh cucumbers from the greenhouse. I was blowing soap bubbles,” she chuckled and briefly laced her fingers through Oliver’s, only to go back to the gentle, casual caress again. “I don’t remember if it was mum or dad, but one of them had a stick of Drooble’s Best Blowing Gum, and I thought that the bubbles filled with all those blue flowers were just about the prettiest thing I’d ever seen.” Melinda rested her head on Oliver’s shoulder and looked up at him. “Tell me what makes flying so special to you.”
