Re: Before the Show
Dean and his parents all greeted Susan, Dean leaning over and giving her cheek a quick kiss to go with her hug in greeting.
"It does look good, we've just finished our tour," Dean's Mum said, smiling at Susan. The faintest traces of a tear or two which had escaped when she had seen the portrait of Dean's father could still be seen on her face. "We're so very proud of him," she said, hugging Dean to her side briefly. He was torn between pride and embarrassment and knew it was showing.
Dean's Dad looked at his watch and cleared his throat. "We should get going," he said before turning to Susan to explain. "We came for a preview, but we aren't staying for the gala. We plan to return next weekend when everything is a little more geared towards us."
Dean nodded, understanding completely that while his parents were relatively comfortable with the magical world after so many years it still wasn't their world and the huge statue of an abstract female figure which occasionally shifted positions was a little alarming to them for one. He also knew that some of the purebloods who might attend had the potential for a lot of cruelty on the subject of his ancestry. He gave them both a hug and said his goodbyes, radiating contentment up until the point his Mum whispered in his ear. That made him glance guiltily towards the doors leading upstairs.
As they walked towards the door, having said their goodbyes to Susan too, Dean turned to her. "I like the blonde," he said. "You want the tour?"
