Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:character: cho chang, character: finbar quigley

RP: Perhaps a date
Who: Cho + Finbar
What: Fin asked Cho to join him for a glass a wine.
Where: Finnigan's
When: Monday evening (Backdated)
Rating: SFW (if not I'll change)

Cho tapped her toes nervously and tried not to look through the crowd on Monument Alley again. She'd shown up early, in a sweater dress and flats. Despite any appearances to the contrary, she felt like she was drowning. Since she and Roger had figured out they'd never work, not long after she took her NEWTs, she hadn't exactly been dating around. And that was years ago. And she'd rolled around in her head all the reasons this was a terrible idea, but the truth was, what little time she'd spent with Finbar had been... Nice. So nice. She felt happy. She liked him. And it was probably hopeless.

Cho forced her toes to stop tapping and glanced up into the crowd, just once, and then put a patient smile on her face. It was her own fault, really, for showing up early.

The steady flow of mumbled words that spilled from Finbar as he left his solicitor’s office wasn’t suitable for children… or the general public, if he was being completely honest. There was just no helping it, because if you at 8 in the evening was still in the meeting – or negotiation or mediation or whatever the fuck the Healers and solicitors and mediators and whoever else was there called it – that started at noon that same day, you were in the right to curse at the world in general and crazy not-soon-enough-ex-wives in particular, when you had to go meet the witch that kept popping into your mind at all times to tell her that you had to cancel. He didn’t care when the door rattle behind him after he’d closed quite a bit harder than what was necessary, but really? Time was of the essence here, and he wasn’t going to let Cho wait, especially since he had to go back into the snakepit he had just left.

With a wave of his wand and a crack, he Apparated to the spot outside The Leaky Cauldron in Diagon Alley, and rushed down the street, only slowing down when he saw Cho right where they had agreed to meet.

“Hello, Gorgeous,” he smiled at her when he was standing in front of her looking down into her pretty face and amazing eyes. Sweet Rowena, he had to be mental to pass up an evening with her for the insanity he was taking a short break from right now. No, he didn’t know her that well, but he knew her well enough that he couldn’t help but smile when he was around her and he was keenly aware of the sense of calm she brought out in him, mixed in with desire and intrigue. It bugged him, but he couldn’t help it, when his smile faded into one of regret and he cleared his throat before he sighed. “I am so sorry, love,” he said quietly, and before he knew it he had reached out to tuck a stray strand of hair behind her ear. “But I have to go back there.”

Cho smiled brightly when he arrived but when she saw the change in his demeanor, her smile turned a little bit sad. Without her permission, her face leaned into his hand when he touched her hair. Her heart sped up and then felt as if it stopped when he spoke again.

She held in her sigh and put on an understand, small smile. "Crazy day, I assume? It's no problem," she shook her head now as if to wave it off. Wasn't like this was going to be her first maybe-it's-a-date since she'd emphatically refused to ever allow her mother to set her up on a blind date again... which was... years ago at this point. Sure she'd flirted with boys in bars but not gone on a date.

It was hard to see the sadness in Cho’s smile, but what really made Finbar feel like an utter shite was when he saw that small smile of understanding. He hated having to do this, absolutely hated that Ruby was still causing this much trouble in his life, that she was still interfering even when she didn’t know that she was, and he had long ago stopped counting the times he regretted not having thought things through before marrying her. “Crazy day,” he agreed quietly, his thumb brushing over her cheekbone when she leaned into his hand. “Going to be some crazy weeks, too, and it is a problem.” It was. It really was, because Cho shouldn’t be paying the price for his mistakes.

“Like I said,” he continued, “I have to get back, don’t have a lot of time, but I will tell you everything once I know what’s going to happen and you can ask any question you want. Right now I’d just really like to wait until I can give you some answers, yeah? Because this has to do with my ex-wife, which can get messy and I don’t want you drawn into that, okay?” Unconsciously he nodded, hoping that she would see reason there, wanting nothing more than to turn his back on everything and take Cho out for that glass of wine. “This is just postponing tonight, not cancelling it,” he assured her.

Her smile at the gentle brush of his thumb was genuine and the butterflies in her stomach were growing larger the more time he stood before her explaining himself. She heard something about questions and his ex-wife and waiting and then brought her face away from his hand and her mind back to the present.

She nodded, truly understanding, "You're not under any obligation to explain anything," she said, honestly, "we can have a glass of wine anytime, right?" The look on her face - she'd be ashamed to admit - was pure hopefulness.

Finbar considered that for a moment, then drew in a deep breath before he nodded. “Maybe not,” he agreed, “but being cancelled on, literally, at the very last minute I think entitles you to at least some explanations, and I think it’s just easier to go all in there.”

His smile warmed when he saw the hopeful look on Cho’s face. “We certainly can,” he assured her and looked over his shoulder, because he knew the chaos that could erupt if too many delays occurred in that gathering of people. It just felt wrong to leave. Unfinished, at least. For a moment he just looked at Cho, trying to figure out… Gently he pulled her closer to the shop window, where rows of intricately decorated cakes beckoned to the people passing by. “I’m just going to ask forgiveness afterwards,” he murmured and slipped his hand behind her neck, dipping his head down, pressing his lips to hers before easing into a slow kiss. But reality was right there, and he had to be present for said reality if he was ever going to have a life completely free of Ruby. Regretfully he eased out of the kiss, and looked down at her again. “We’ll have that glass of wine real soon,” he promised her.

Cho smiled more brightly - less brittle-y - when he insisted that she deserved an explanation. There was something earnest and slightly intense about him, even if he was the far more laid back of the two. This was a new side to him and she liked it.

Her face turned to confusion at what he said next, though, and she smiled with a small, short laugh but then he was leaning forward and his hand was on her and he was kissing her. Fin was kissing her! And Cho found herself responding, tentatively but happily, to the gentle pressure of his lips. When he pulled away her eyes were closed and she sighed a happy, small, contented noise, mixed with a longing for more (which surprised her the most of the whole thing). Looking up into his eyes she couldn't help but to lick her lips just slightly (daintily, she hoped), and nod. "We will," she answered, her eyes shining in a sort of wonder. That kiss had felt... wonderful, and somehow... as if it fit. Though she was sure she wouldn't be able to explain it if ever asked.

For a moment longer than strictly necessary, Fin just looked down into Cho’s eyes. Sure, they’d met a couple of times, talked and gotten to know each other a bit better, but while he didn’t know everything about her, he did know that she affected him in a way he really liked. That she was gorgeous was simply an added bonus. “We will,” he said again, and gave her cheek a gentle brush before he released her.

“We will,” he repeated with a smile and took a couple of steps backwards, raising his hand in a small wave, before he turned around and quickly made his way back to the Apparation point. Tonight had better be worth it, though he knew that no matter what it would be at least a couple of weeks before he could do anything that wasn’t related to Quidditch or Ruby. But after that? As soon as he could, he was going to make good on his promise.
