Zacharias Smith ([info]unspeakableness) wrote in [info]finnigans_rpg,
Dora and Zacharias
Zacharias took her hand in his, shaking it more confidently than he felt just then. It was one thing to idly talk to a stranger on those journals and another to meet that stranger in person, especially when that stranger was, well, famous. Or at least well known in a particular field, even if she used a false identity for it. The urge he'd had weeks ago to quit and insist she have his spot on the Committee on Experimental Charms again crept up his neck and wiggled into his brain, but he managed not to let it show or stupidly say something right there in front of her. Never let them see you sweat, right? Or at least, keep your foot out of your mouth, something he was better at than when he was younger but was still an issue for him.

"It's nice to meet you properly," he said, giving her a small smile as he let go of her hand. He then remembered her surname from the journals, the name next to her writing on her entries and comments; Montgomery. He'd just run into someone with the same surname a few hours earlier. He suspected they might be related, but even if they weren't, it was apparently a Montgomery meeting kind of day. Whatever that was. He thought better of bringing it up, partially because he thought about how stupid it sounded to say he'd just met another Montgomery and asking if she knew him. That was like asking him if he knew a random person with the surname Smith.

"Thank you, again," he said, lowering his voice to keep from being overheard, "for the copy of the journal. I enjoyed your article." And he had, though one reason he said it was because he didn't know what else to say. Small talk was not Zacharias Smith's forte.
