Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:character: hermione granger, character: luna lovegood

Who: Hermione and Luna
What: Being there for a friend
Where: St. Mungos
When: Sunday right after this
Rating: SFW but may be sad times

Within moments of Luna's revelation Hermione flooed to St. Mungos. Upon her arrival in the main reception area she went to the end of the queue line and waited impatiently for her turn to speak to the receptionist. It felt like forever before she was able to make it to the front of the line. While she waited worry for her friend mounted. She kicked herself for not having popped into their home sooner like she had promised. Xenophilius hadn't been well the last time she'd seen him and it pained her to think that things had gotten monumentally worse.

Finally, she had gotten information as to Lovegood's location and made her way to his room. Pausing just outside the door Hermione took a deep breath while she battled within herself. Other than Harry and Ron, Luna was among the few people Hermione actually considered to be worthy of being called family. Therefore, did she just walk in and sit down or should she follow protocol and knock? Opting for the later she gave a quick rap and waited to be acknowledged.

Luna hadn't really been home since she had gotten to St. Mungos. It wasn't good at all. Something had happened and she was pretty sure that he'd had a stroke. The thing was that he was now unconscious and not waking up. They were trying a bunch of magic but nothing had worked yet. All Luna could do was sit by her father and hold his hand and really hope that he was going to wake up soon. She had to believe though, there wasn't any room for doubt that he would be okay.

Hearing a knock at the door, she got up and opened it to find Hermione there. It was nice of her to stop by. In fact it had took her a while to remember that she had needed to take care of the vet hospital and tell people that it was closed. It was then that she realized she hadn't told anyone what happened. Since no one had come to look for her, she wasn't too worried. Of course she didn't know what that said about her friendship with anyone, but that could wait until later.

"Hi Hermione. Please come in," she said, moving back from the door to let her inside. She wasn't really smiling for once. "How are you?"

One of the things Hermione missed the most about their Hogwarts days was the fact that you generally knew what was going on with everyone. As they all got older jobs, relationships, and for some children pulled them all in seemingly opposite directions. The business and distraction of life was a horrible excuse for not taking the time to check on Luna when she knew full well that things weren't going all that well.

"Isn't that the question, I should be asking you?" Hermione said as she reached out to give Luna a hug.

That was one of the things that Luna missed as well. Everyone had been all together and there for each other. Now it was hard to keep track of where anyone was or what was going on. She missed her friends. She was lonely, truth be told. Very lonely. But there wasn't anything she could do about that while her father was possibly dying. None of that really mattered, just her doing what she could to get him better.

"Honestly I don't know how to answer," she told her friend as she hugged her. "I just want him to be okay, but he hasn't woken up and I don't know if he will. How can he just not wake up?"

Hermione took a seat in the chair beside Luna. She didn't have any answers either. The best she could do was sit there and let Luna know that she supported her no matter what.

The closest thing to this Hermione had been through to this was when she had sent her parents off to Australia. She knew they'd be safe and the only worry she had was that if she died she would never see them again. They wouldn't have lost a daughter. She couldn't imagine what Luna was going through. "Have you had anything to eat?" It was all she could think of to say that might be of any assistance.

Just her being there mattered quite a bit to Luna. It was more than the others had done.

"Um, only something from the little place.. cafeteria here. The food wasn't very good," she admitted in a quiet voice. "I keep trying to get home to clean up, but I get distracted and worried. I haven't done much of anything." Which basically meant that she hadn't really been eating at all.

Hermione sat there quietly a little longer. Seeing Mr. Lovegood just lying there was hitting her harder than it ought to. "I can go to Finnigan's to get you something if you'd like," she offered as much for herself as for Luna. It would give her the chance to step away and process so she could truly support her friend.

Luna didn't blame Hermione for not wanting to be there. It was hard, she knew. "Sure. I'd really appreciate that. Thank you." She was okay with it. She gave her a small smile. "I'll be here."

Hermione stood and gave Luna a sympathetic pat on the shoulder. "I'll be back before you know I've been gone." With that she exited and made her way to Finnigan's where she picked up some soup and freshly baked bread along with a few bottles of butter beer. She also used the time to gather herself and and make sure she was prepared to be there to fully support Luna.

She returned about a half hour later with the food under a warming charm. "It isn't much but it's bound to taste better than the food in the cafeteria," Hermione said as she walked over to the table that sat off to the said and took the food out of the bag and laid it out to make it easier for Luna to access.

While Hermione was gone, she made sure that her father was comfortable. She read her book a little bit, trying to take her mind off of things. And her stomach was definitely growling so when she showed up, it was a welcome sight. And by the time that Hermione got back, Luna's father was sort of awake. Enough to say hello to her, though he was clearly not well enough to sit up.

"Oh thank you. I imagine it is. You're a star." She went around to get the food out of the bag. Xenophilius drifted in and out of sleep as she started to finally eat. "I really should go home and actually shower and change my clothes eventually too." It had been a while since she had.

As Hermione placed the items on the table she heard a small groan come from the bed. She smiled a little to herself glad that she'd opted for soup instead of something a bit more solid. That meant that if Mr. Lovegood was up to try something to eat her choice of menu was perfect.

"Hello, Mr. Lovegood," she nodded turning around to face both him and Luna. "Don't strain yourself," she lifted a hand in a manner meant to let him know she didn't expect him to play host. "Save your energy so you can get home sooner."

After Luna was settled, Hermione took one of the butter beers and sat down beside her friend and just listened for a few moments. "If you'd like I can bring you some of my clothes and you can shower here. That way you don't miss a moment of his recovery." Hermione could barely imagine the pull that must be going on inside of Luna. Hermione knew she wanted so much to care for her father but needed to care for herself as well.

Xenophilius sat back in the bed but he did raise it up so that he was in a sitting position. "That smells good," he commented. Apparently he had his appetite, which made Luna look quite relieved. Not eating wasn't good, but then she didn't really blame him for not wanting to eat the bland things they gave their patients.

Luna handed him some of the soup and hoped that he was well enough to eat it on his own. After a minute or two, he started to eat and so she settled in to eat as well now that she didn't have to worry about it.

"Oh that would be lovely. Thank you. Though I do have to go home and check on the animals." They thankfully weren't starving, but she should make sure they were all okay nonetheless.

Hermione didn't want to intrude on Luna's time with her father. Her intent for the visit had been to support her friend. She had done that and could continue to do so in ways that were more practical than simply sitting there taking up space. She actually felt horrible that Luna was waiting on her father rather than Hermione doing it for her. Still, she understood that this was the first time in a few days that things were back to what had become normal for her friend. Therefore, she sat back and silently watched as she finished off her butter beer.

"I'm happy to oblige either way," Hermione stood and walked over to where Luna sat. "Just let me know what you need. I'm going to head back to my flat." She leaned down and gave Luna a quick hug. "Mr. Lovegood, take care and don't let Luna overwork herself." She knew that her friend would bend over backwards to take care of her father at the risk of letting herself go. Something Hermione needed to be certain she didn't allow Luna to spiral too far into.
