Who: Blaise and OPEN
What: Thinking
Where: Park in Monument Alley
When: Thursday early afternoon
Rating: SFW unless Blaise curses then I'll change it

Blaise had done a fairly decent job of forgetting the whole journal snafu from awhile back. That was until one of the idiots in the patent office came by to show off pictures of the newest member of his brood. Blaise had smiled politely enough and was relieved when he finally left. That was until his boss asked him when he was going to settle down and have a family. But it wasn't just that, the man went on and on about how fulfilling life was when you had a family and that until a man became a father he was nothing.

Thankfully, a memo came that allowed Blaise to put an end to the conversation. However, instead of heading to his desk to work on the directive, he grabbed his coat and headed out. He wandered for a little while before he finally settled on a bench in the park where he sat watching a man push his little girl on a swing. Was that really what life was supposed to be about?

Blaise's attention was pulled from the pair he'd been watching to the new arrivals. He noted the way the lady cared for the boy and couldn't help but smile when he waved her off as he launched himself into the air. It was the same sort of response he would have given his own mother had she fussed over him in any manner. Not that the lady was necessarily too overly involved in the boy's reaction.

"He's a fine flyer," Blaise said after they'd sat there for a moment. The boy was doing quite well. "He'll make a house team easily when he finds his way to Hogwarts."

Genie looked over at the man she'd only taken in peripheally up to this point. She grinned proudly, though she was too young to be the boy's mother despite perhaps the glint of one or two silver hairs amid the mass of curls. "Thank you," she told him genuinely. "He'll be eleven soon, and he's finally getting to fly one of the good brooms. He's a natural."

"He'll be thrilled to hear someone else besides us said he's good, though. I know he really wants to be on a team when he gets to Hogwarts, though we've all told him he won't get to play til his second year." Not everyone was Harry Potter, after all. "By then, he'll probably have a broom all to himself for school." They were already saving, along with saving for just about everything else they wanted. It was a process.

"Hi, I'm Genie," she said belatedly, sticking out her hand. "And I promise I'm not always rude."

One of the good brooms either they didn't have much or up until this point they hadn't trusted the young man to fly anything more than an older model. Either way that wasn't something he could relate to. His mother had always ensured he had the best from as far back as he could remember. It pained him to think that it was possible that he had a child somewhere that wasn't guaranteed the best. The worst part, he didn't even know where to begin his search. Everyone he knew that had a child knew who had fathered the baby.

Blaise reached out and took the hand that was offered to him. "Blaise Zabini, nice to meet you." He watched the young one take another lap. "If Muggleborns who've never flown before Hogwarts can make the teams I'm certain he won't have to worry." He turned his eyes away from the sky and to Genie. "Family or friend?" he asked not that it was really any of his business. It was just the frame of mind he was in at the moment.

She looked over at him under her lashes, quietly assessing even as she smiled. Pureblood, she guessed from hhis Muggleborn comment. She'd hold out further judgement until later. "True, I suppose, though a lot of it comes down to innate talent," she mused aloud. Granted, she'd had access from a young age to a broom.

She turned her body towards him, drawing one leg up and resting her arm on it, giving him almost all her attention - leaving just enough on Owen to make sure nothing catastrophic was going on. His reflexes would do him well. "A bit of both?" She offered with a quick grin. "Call him a foster brother or such, I guess, though a couple years ago he swore he'd marry me when he grew up." Her amusement was noticeable.

"Innate talent without honed practice does not make for a decent quidditch player." Blaise knew that people made teams for various reasons and that regardless of those reasons attitudes of superiority and lack of teamwork only made for a horrible teammate.

When he felt her move on the bench he turned himself so that he was also in a more conversational pose. He however did not get comfortable as she seemed to be doing. When she spoke of their relation he decided not to ask. The war had changed many families and he was fortunate enough to have not really been effected. Then again, it had always been just he and mother and she had gone to France when things started spiraling.

"Just a few years ago?" he turned to his flirtatious nature. "You sure he's not still planning a proposal?"

"That's true enough, but the talent never hurts. He'll have a decent broom by the time he's allowed to play on a team." If she had to do things others sometimes found distasteful, she'd make sure he had one. Hopefully next Christmas, really, so he'd have plenty of time to practice before auditioning in his second year.

"Welllll," she drawled, her smile slow and warm and flirtatious as well. "I'm not sure, but he very well might. I am a catch, after all." She grinned and winked, tossing her curls playfully. "But as much as I adore him, I don't think we're fated to be together. But what do I know, I'm not terribly educated in astrology or divination."

Blaise wasn't going to argue the merits or lack there of for students wanting to be a part of the Hogwarts Quidditch teams. Those were things of his past that had no bearing on his present. Though they may impact his future if he were to have children. Or rather when he found this child Alicia seemed to be convinced was out there somewhere.

"Are you now?" Blaise watched as her curls bounce for a moment before turning to more fully face her, one arm draping along the back of the bench. "And what does one have to do in order to attempt to make the catch?" It wasn't that he was particularly interested nor was he disinterested, he simply took the opportunity presented to him. "Or should I wait for the young man to land and ask for his advice? Fated or not if he's proposed marriage he's obviously paid close attention to you."

Genie grinned and leaned forward slightly. She couldn't help flirting, most times, but he was handsome and charming, and that never hurt anything, or so she'd found. "Oh, I don't know," she said with playful coyness. "I find a handsome man such as yourself probably knows what a lady might like. Though a smile like yours and some good company goes a long way, I think."

She laughed softly. "Well, you could at that, and he'd probably tell you I like a good steak or a fast run."

Blaise took note of the fact that she leaned in just enough to show interest but not enough to invite him to lean toward her in like manner. "That may be so, but I've learned that smart men never assume to know what an individual may or may not prefer." Yes, it was a line designed to serve his purposes. In his experience women wanted to be thought special and while flowers and chocolates could do that for a moment they were overly cliche.

When she laughed he couldn't help but give a small smile in return. There had been a time when he would have forced the smile just to bed the girl. However, he liked to think of himself as a bit more grown up these days. That and the way his mind had him focused lately the last thing he was actually after was a random encounter. Not that he would ever actively admit that to any of his friends. "A good steak is always worth one's time. Though I'd have to decline a fast run. My days on the pitch are a bit far behind me."

Her eyes drug over him. "Well, you certainly look fit enough to me," she said with a smile edged with the sensual. "Though if you cry off that, perhaps I could chase you around a bit instead." She laughed softly. She couldn't help herself, being bold, being forward, it was part of who she was. Besides, sometimes it was fun to chase instead of be chased.

"You'll probably laugh, but I run for the thrill, all those endorphins and all that jazz." Not to mention she had the stamina to go for quite a long while, with her secret nature.

She tilted her head at him. "Fancy a good steak sometime?"

Blaise knew it wouldn't take much to get himself back into proper shape. Had he cared to make his way to the manor and actually spend time on the grounds he'd be in better shape than he was at the moment. Too much time in the city had definitely taken its toll. Perhaps this was a call for him to find one of those exercises places that he'd heard some of his co-workers speak of on occasion.

"I have no doubt I could escape if I wanted," he winked at her. "You don't spend time on the pitch as a chaser and not learn a few evasive moves." Quidditch was one of the few things that could make him nostalgic for the past.

When she took the initiative to essentially ask him out, Blaise cocked his head slightly to the side. He wasn't used to randomly encountering women that were as bold as this one. "Sometime, perhaps."

She grinned playfully. If she'd been a wolf, she'd have wiggled her rear in an invitation to play. Her tongue darted out to lick her lips quickly. "Mmm, hard to get, huh?" she teased. "I think I could definitely provide you with a challenge."

Boldness didn't always pay off, she knew; she'd intimidated handsome men before. But it often paid off, as well, and he wasn't saying no or backpedaling too hard. She reached out and gently tweaked his sleeve, giving him a winning smile. "It'll give me something to look forward to, then," she said.
