Neville and Seamus have lunch
WHO: Neville and Seamus
WHEN: Monday November 10th for lunch
WHERE: Finnigan's
WHAT: Neville wants to catch up with his mate.
RATING: PG
STATUS:

Neville, settled at one of the tables by the window, waited for Seamus to join him before he ordered. He opened the file he had brought with him and rubbed his jaw with the back of his fingers, a habit he had picked up a while ago. He wasn't really working that day and wouldn't need to for three days, but he didn't want to be behind on what was coming next.

His weekend had been productive, mostly at the Ministry, but he had an appointment with various professionals about the house. It had taken a while for him to be able to have those days off with the bonfires and fireworks and the lady selling the house had agreed to give him some time. And now things would get done and he'd know exactly where he stood.

Despite continuing to feel rushed off his feet nearly constantly, Seamus's mood was better than it had been in a few weeks. He'd spent Bonfire Night with Dean, Friday night with Justin and Sunday actually relaxing - after Battlescars, of course. With Halloween and Bonfire Night out of the way, the only thing he needed to focus on was Christmas. The holiday seemed to be racing towards them, and Seamus had already had to abandon several castles-in-the-air that he simply wouldn't have time to organise. One of these days, he'd sit down and draw up an actual plan.

But today was not that day. Today, all he had to do was stand behind the bar for a few hours, then have lunch with Neville. His evening was relatively open - he wasn't officially working, but he'd probably put in a few more hours anyway. Then there was really no need for him to oversee Gobstones, so he could take the evening off. Maybe actually cook - it had been a while. He'd spotted Neville's arrival but had been in the middle of pouring an order so it took him a few moments before he ambled over with two menus. "Hi," he said brightly, sitting down in the free chair. "How are you, Nev?"

"Seamus!" Neville said excitedly with a grin. "I'm doing good, mate. How have you been doing?" He asked, very happy to finally be able to sit down with his mate to catch up. "Seems like we're all working hard and long hours."

Neville wondered briefly if it was simply because their generation had always been working so hard to keep on top of things back at Hogwarts and they were used to that rhythm of life or if everyone felt rushed and overloaded like that in their 20s.

"Too right," Seamus muttered. "Can you believe it's November already? I don't know where the time goes, there's so much going on all the time." He couldn't even remember the last time he'd seen Neville - at Battlescars, probably, but in a social setting where they had time to sit and talk? It had been far too long. "I thought the journals would keep me updated on everyone's lives better than I've been in the past, but they're just bringing in more work." Not that Seamus could exactly complain about that, of course. More work meant more money which meant that if he ever managed to take time off he might be able to go somewhere nice.

He pushed a menu towards Neville. "Have you even eaten here since Romeo started?" he asked, honestly unable to remember. "You should try something of his, if you haven't."

"Pft, no I can't it was New Year last week." He said metaphorically, rolling his eyes. Time did fly too fast and he was afraid he was missing out on opportunities all the time.

"More work is good when you have a business, by the way. But you might want to relax a little. Like.. Days off or something." Did Seamus have employees? Seems like his mate was always working when he came over.

"Yeah, I come in here often. Maybe you just don't see me or something." It was true that Finnigan's was rather busy, especially with clubs and meetings. "I don't know what to eat. I'll take whatever you take."

Seamus laughed and nodded. It really did feel like the year had flown by in a matter of days. "Afraid not. I'm already planning for New Year." If by 'planning' you meant the odd thought that Seamus made a note to remember and then instantly forgot. Sometimes he was amazed Finnigan's ran as smoothly as it did with the amount he seemed to not do.

"I know it's good but, yeah, days off, those would be nice." Seamus tended to work for at least a couple of hours six days a week, and he spent his seventh day running Battlescars. He was proud of it, but it wasn't exactly restful by any stretch of the imagination. "I'm going to try to make Dean take a holiday after his show. Maybe if I manage then I'll get to take time off too."

Sliding the menu onto a spare chair, Seamus shook his head. "Sure I see you! I see everyone. I just don't always pay attention to whether you're eating or ordering food." If Neville was going to leave the food choices up to him, Seamus knew exactly what he would have. "Well, let's get all three of Romeo's chef surprise options for the day and we can share them between us. They're mostly small sorts of things - stuffed mushrooms, vegetarian tacos, but they've all been good so far."

Neville gave a groan. Seamus needed to be able to get away sometimes and he shook his head. "Just don't burn yourself on the job, is all." He tilted his head and smiled. "It's a good idea to drag the both of you out. I haven't seen Dean in even longer than you. It's terrible." He smirked so Seamus would know to take it lightly.

"Chef's surprises is fine with me. I have yet to be disappointed by Romeo and I'd say it's a nice change from the other cook you had." Neville had voluntarily called Romeo a chef, contrary to the previous bloke who was clearly not as good at cooking as Romeo was.

"If you want Dean, you'll have to wait until after this show," Seamus said, his expression more serious than it had been. "You know how he gets. Or you could just go to the show, then he can't escape. Plus, should be fun. Loads of us'll be there at one point or another."

Noticing a lull at the bar, Seamus went off to place their orders and returned with a drink for them each. One advantage of his line of work was he knew what his friends regularly ordered. "Speaking of change," he said when he returned. "Weren't you moving out? Why haven't I had an invitation to a house party?"

Neville gave him a 'No shit Sherlock' look and chuckled. "You think I would miss this?" He said, having planned to go all along because no matter how busy he was, he wasn't going to be to busy to support his mate. "It's always loads of fun when we're all around."

Thanking Seamus for the drink he took a sip and settled it down. "Actually, I'm working on getting a Muggle Inspector to inspect it. It's a Muggle house, really nice and the old lady just can't keep up with the maintenance, she's getting herself a condo in London." He was so excited about getting his first house. "So the process has started, I'm in no hurry and neither is she. It's in a secluded area and I'm the only one interested."

Seamus nodded, he'd kind of figured Neville would be showing up at one point or another, though Seamus hadn't yet co-ordinated with anyone about when exactly. "I'll be there opening night," he said. "And probably at least one of the muggle-friendly days and..." Well, he'd probably be there whenever he wasn't busy with work or activities, to be honest. Though, he frowned slightly as he thought of Ophelia, maybe not...

"You're buying, then?" Seamus was still paying back his mam for more or less giving him the building they were currently in - and that had been a surprise inheritance so it wasn't even as if Aileen Finnigan needed the money. Under other circumstances, he'd never have had enough to buy, especially not in London. Even though he had this place now, he couldn't help but be a little jealous. "That's great." He was at least not selfish enough not to be happy for his friends. "I imagine it must have a garden?"

"I'll probably show up at opening night too." It was important for him to support his friends in what they loved to do. Support could allow people do to great things, as Neville himself had been able to demonstrate. His friends had believed in him and now look what he had been able to do with his life so far? "I'd like to have some of his work to decorate my house. He's so talented."

"Yup, definitely buying. Gran is lending me the money, no interest. I already have saved some though." He chuckled and sipped his drink, a slight blush on his cheeks. "I was talking to Lavender about moving out before I made the decision and I jokingly said something about buying property, flipping it and rent it out. Build an empire out of it." The more he was thinking about it, the best it sounded just about now. "You know, leaving something to my kids that I built myself."

He smirked and drank again. "You bet it has a huge yard. Badly maintained so it'll be a lot of fun. A blank slate just for me to play with."

"Aren't family handy that way?" he asked, think of both his mam and his uncle - without whom he'd never be in the position he now was. He did raise an eyebrow slightly when Neville mentioned his kids. "Sounds like a good idea." Again, he felt a slight pang of jealousy that Neville felt confident assuming there would one day be kids. Seamus didn't particularly want kids himself, but it would be nice to be sure that he wouldn't be alone for the rest of his life... Of course, he'd have his friends.

He couldn't help laughing as Neville mentioned playing with his unkept garden. "Whatever makes you happy," he said. "Think I'll wait until you've finished to come over."

Neville chuckled. "Yeah, Gran's kind of awesome that way. Well, once I started speaking for myself and making sure she knew I wasn't just going to leave and never come back, she was much more open to the idea." He nodded and smiled, then tilted his head.

"I love it, really. Planning and working on it. Gosh winter is going to be too long." he said with a sigh.

Seamus nodded. His own mam had been happy to finally get him out of the house - largely because leaving had also involved opening his own pub and he'd been full of excitement about it. "You could never leave and not go back," he said. "I'm sure she knew that really, but sometimes a little reassurance helps."

Their food arrived then and Seamus had helped clear some space on the table for the plates of food and the two extra empty plates he'd asked for, so they could each take what they wanted. "Why not take a holiday?" he suggested. "Go somewhere you that's hot all year and examine all the exotic plants that won't grow in England? That's pretty much what's getting me through right now - knowing that I can take some time off in January." Or, more realistically, hoping that he could take some time off. He'd never managed it before, but surely at least a long weekend somewhere would be possilbe.

Neville chuckled. "Of course I can't just leave, she had greenhouse and gardens installed just for me and I do the maintenance." He smirked and looked outside for a moment before bringing his attention back to Seamus.

"You know, I never considered going on vacation." Sure, sometimes he took timee off and just spent it in the garden in the summer, but sheesh, he'd never done it during winter. "Maybe I should. It would definitely be a nice thing though, huh?"

"Where are you going to go?" He asked curiously. He couldn't remember Seamus going anywhere at all since he'd opened the pub.

"There you go, then," Seamus agreed. "You'll be there all the time." He reached for one of Romeo's stuffed mushrooms and popped it into his mouth, thinking while he ate. "Sounds like you'll be pretty busy. Your own garden, your Gran's greenhouses, work, plus a new house..." He gave Neville his best 'Susan' expression. "You're not taking on too much, are you?" He knew he was in no real position to make such an argument - but maybe a warning coming from him would actually carry more weight.

He shrugged slightly. "I really don't know. We talked about Germany for the Christmas markets, but since we won't be going until January..." Honestly, Seamus had a long, long list of places that he'd like to go - a list he didn't know how or where to start working on! "I suppose it depends how long we can get away for."

He shook his head and smiled. "Nah, I won't be that busy surely." He said, shaking his head. "Besides.. magic." There was a lot he could do magically to help himself with the workload. Of course there was still a lot of work he liked to do on his own. "And maybe once the landscaping will be done at my house that I'll have my own greenhouse. The ones that are built at Gran's are not permanent ones, they can be taken down and she seems okay with letting them go. I'll keep her veggie and fruit garden up though because she's come to love fresh, homegrown veggies." Augusta hadn't been sure at first but had liked it immediately.

"The greenhouses were pretty much to protect plants to go through winter and start seedlings, I can do that at home and take the plants to her place in the spring, easy enough."

"Oooh, Christmas Markets." He said, interested. "Well, maybe you can escape in December instead?"

Seamus nodded through Neville's explanation - glad he wasn't going to be working too hard. He did have a pretty demanding job, after all. "I don't know how I could arrange to get away in December, is the problem," he explained. "It gets so busy, and then I have to find time to buy presents and figure out how much time I'm going to open here and plan for the New Year's Eve party..." It was a familiar busyness for the time of year, and taking a holiday right in the middle of it had been a pipe dream. "We'll think of something." Maybe they should start thinking about it now, really, so they could just get away when January came.

"So anything else happening in your life?" he asked, reaching for another mushroom to eat while Neville answered.

"Hmm, I see what you mean." Being a business owner seemed to be rather complicated and time consuming, even more so since it was a very social business. "Well, I'm sure something nice will come up and it'll be a nice vacation. Seriously, who doesn't need those, huh?" He said with a smirk. He'd rather not consider a holiday himself, mostly because he had no idea whatsoever what he could do, where he could go or with whom.

"Actually.. nothing. This is all. House buying is pretty much all I have. Oh and Donny, my dog. He's amazing." It was all Neveill had, work, his dog and his plants. Of course he had Gran and his parents, but family was part of everyone's life anyway.
