RP: In need of nourishment
Who: Genie and OPEN

What: in which there must be food, and lots of it, preferably rare meat

Where: Finnegan’s

When: Saturday evening

Rating: SFW for now

Genie drug herself back to the Alleys as soon as Brighid got up to take over caring for Violet. It wasn’t that she wanted to get away, precisely; she felt more at home with her packmates than she did with anyone else. But she did want some food that definitely wasn’t in the house yet. Alexander hadn’t exactly had a chance to do the shopping while they were running around during the moon, and none of them really had before, especially not the levels of food they normally required with their metabolisms.

Alexander had driven them to and from their running grounds, and Brighid and Devon had first rights to sleep in. Gally always fell asleep no matter what, and Talia had watched Violet last month. So Genie had watched the baby, who cried and whined because the change hurt so badly and she was much too little to understand, let alone have some of the medication the older members took. So Genie had spent the morning and much of the afternoon with the little girl on her chest or walking around with her. Now that others were up, they would watch her and some would get food, but she was starving now and so it wouldn’t wait, even for the much needed sleep.

She’d done only cursory make up, not nearly her usual standards though she still looked nice, if rather tired. Some might mistake it for being hung-over; sometimes after the moon it certainly felt like it. She felt it in her joints, her bones, her tendons, everywhere. She hurt. Everywhere. It made the corners of her eyes and mouth a bit tight, but she’d already taken the allowable dose of pain killer she’d brewed before the moon. Sleep and a day or two would make everything right, but for now she felt twisted and stretched in impossible ways, and possibly lagging from the Wolfsbane, which hadn’t been up to her usual snuff, possibly due to old ingredients.

She found a table off to the side in Finnegans and immediately ordered several things off the menu, including some nicely rare meat that the wolf still craved despite hunting this week. She got an odd look for the quantity, but she ignored it with the ease of practice. “Rare, remember,” she said again, impressing it specifically so it would be that way. Once the order was off, she leaned back in her chair and felt her hunger war with her exhaustion, and she yawned, covering it with her hand belatedly.

Dennis wandered into Finnigan's with a happy smile on his face. Well, he would have told you that he wandered in. Perhaps a less charitable soul would have said that he 'bounced' into the pub, or even 'sauntered' but Dennis didn't give a flying toss about them because he was happy. He'd just been told that he had not one, not two, but three articles set to be published in the paper over the weekend, and decided that it was the perfect time to stop by the pub and have a pint. Also possibly to make Seamus feel bad about forgetting his birthday.

He sat down at a table right across from a pretty - though clearly hungover - woman just as she ordered enough food to feed four people comfortably. Despite himself, Dennis felt his curiosity piqued (if by 'despite himself' you meant 'in accordance with his normal personality' and he did.) "A bit peckish are you," he asked the woman by way of greeting, smiling at her lazily. "I know the feeling though, not enough sleep and too much going on eh?"

Genie smiled at then man who spoke. She'd been aware of him from the moment he'd walked in, just like she was overly aware of everyone in the place currently. If she cared tonlisten, this close after the moon, she could likely pick out heartbeats. The grin might be a bitn full of teeth, at least to her, but it wasn't ill meant. There was still just too much wolf in her eyes and blood right now.

"Peckish is a word for it," she replied with relatively good cheer. "I think I could eat a horse, as the saying goes." She sniffed the air, very much wanting her food now. "Definitely quite short on sleep, though. But someone had to do all the things." She balanced back on the rear legs of her chair.

Dennis smiled at her genially, although something about her appearance tickled the back of his mind. She looked... Familiar, somehow. Although when Dennis thought about it, he'd probably just gone to school with her or something like that. "I do have a way with words," he replied modestly, bowing forward slightly. "What's brought on such a hunger, if it's not too rude to ask?"

He looked at her for a moment then nodded sympathetically. "I know how that goes, I had to run half my siblings around today," he said with a wry half-smile. For a moment he looked around. "Since we're talking, do you mind if I come sit at your table? I'll butter you up with some chips or something?"

"I was up most of the night, and then when we got home -- a... family camping trip of sorts... -- I was put in charge of the baby. My foster sister, of sorts," she said, chatting easily and amiably despite feeling like crap. She'd always been naturally gregarious and open. There were only a few lies she'd ever gotten good at telling, and none of them had come up yet. "So you could say I've just been very very busy, with a nice metabolism to go with it."

"Yeah, that's the basics of it. Even if they're not sibs, per se." She gestured at the chair across from her. "Please, do." Her grin widened slightly as she looked him over, still leaned back in her chair. She peered at him playfully through her lashes; he certainly was a tall one. "You can butter me up anytime."

Dennis nodded thoughtfully. "Camping must have been nice," he said after a moment. "I always loved camping and the full moon would have made things easier to see, especially with a nice cosy fire and whatnot. But sister-wrangling would have been tough afterwards," he added with a sympathetic smile.

Well that's the most straightforward offer I've received in a while, emphasis on the straight but unfortunately for you dear, I'm not," he said with a cheeky grin., moving over to sit across from him. "Of course I know a couple of lovely lads and lasses who would quite like to uh, butter you up."

"So," he said, with a warm smile after ordering lasagne and a giant basket of chips. "You look vaguely familiar, did we go to school together?"

"Camping during the full moon is definitely an experience," she said, and it wasn't a lie at all. "A nice cosy fire is always appreciated." And there had been one, too. Alexander always had one going once it got cooler, and with Wolfsbane it was possible to curl up next to it some of the time in wolf form and enjoy it. "Yeah, the country air is good for her, but she's poorly, so she often needs extra attention. But we love her and even if it's hard, we don't really mind." The whole pack doted on Violet, even Galahad who tended to be selfish.

She pouted her lips at him. "Not even a little bit straight?" she wheedled playfully, holding her finger and thumb just a little bit apart. She generally really couldn't help herself, and it always threw her just a little off to be turned down though this good humor was the best way. "Aww, you're sweet," she said, smiling at him.

"We probably did," she said, her gaze much sharper and assessing as she looked him over, the flecks of gold in the brown starker as she felt the wolf stir protectively. Come to think, he did look familiar; she had the sinking feeling he'd been in Gryffindor with her. If asked, she couldn't have said why she shied away from being identified as herself. Every time she thought about it, she could only remember sending those few owls to her family and never hearing back. Back in those days, she'd mostly gone by Imogene or Immy or some variation of that, though, except in her family. She was going to have to get over the reaction, but she'd not been back among many people she'd have run into back then very long yet, so it was still... a process.

Dennis groaned in appreciation, silently wondering if it wasn't possibly time to take his brother and sister's out for a nice camping trip over Christmas - possibly in Peru, or Australia. He left the idea to percolate and refocused on the woman before him. "It is," he agreed with a toothy grin. "The last time I went camping was with a bunch of cursebreakers in Indonesia, and we still had the fire although it was pretty damn unnecessary in the tropics." He frowned for a moment at the mention of the little girl. "I'm so sorry that she's sick," he said genuinely. "May I ask what's wrong? Some sort of magical ailment?"

He chuckled and shook his head, settling into his seat more comfortable. "I'm afraid not," he apologised with verbosely. "I have eyes only for the men. Glorious, attractive, handsome men," he added, his eyes taking on a faraway look. "Of course there aren't any glorious, attractive, handsome men interested in me at the moment so I'll take your proposition as compliment." He chuckled and bowed his head. "One does one's best," he replied.

"Well, yeah I mean I guess it goes without saying," Dennis replied with a half-smile. "I was in Gryff if that's any help. Also I just realised that I didn't introduce myself! My name's Dennis Creevey," he said with a nod, extending his hand to her.

"Indonesia! We've never gone out of the country, so jealous," she said, but she grinned. They'd never afford it, besides, they knew their areas and preferred their own territory anyway. Though it was a nice thought. Maybe sometime, if they could ever finance a port key and a place to stay during the new moon time, maybe. "It's a chronic thing, that flares up sometimes," she said without lying, precisely. "We've seen Healers about it." And had to avoid some of them after, if they didn't outright leave.

"Alas, my loss," she told him, eyes lingering over his lean form for another moment as she sighed. Not that she should be thinking of that right now, but even this side of the moon it seemed like it was often on her mind. "I'll just sit and appreciate the view, then, and that of all those very handsome men as well," she told him cheekily.

"Ahh yes, it does," she said with a nod and a smile. She could definitely place him now. He'd been a lot shorter once. "I'm Genie de la Lune," she said automatically, the name ingrained in her after living with it so long. Her entire pack went by the amusing, to them, moniker. She slipped her hand into his, shaking firmly. Her touch was warm, perhaps a shade more than normal, and she did have some calluses on her hands from working often in the garden.

"It's great," Dennis replied with a huge grin. "I definitely recommend it! I went to Rome the other week for a date thing I with a really fit Quidditch player - Terry Boot, do you know him? Not that you need to go to those extremes, but still, travel is something everyone should experience." He made a sympathetic face at her, even as the cogs in the back of his head began to whir and click at something. He ignored them, knowing they'd deliver some sort of insight at an utterly unrelated moment - like whilst sleeping, or eating beans. "That sucks for the poor girl. I'm sorry!"

He rolled his eyes at her pointedly. "Don't worry, if I was in any way, shape, or form interested you'd be the first to know," he said, placing his hand on his heart beforing grimacing. "Actually probably the second. I'd be required to tell my friend Rose who'd probably fight you for the honour of doing me." He paused and looked around the room, finding it somewhat lacking in hot men - unless you counted Seamus, which Dennis emphatically didn't - and sighed with her. "I'll have to take you clubbing or something, so we can see some proper meat."

"Genie de la Lune," he asked, furrowing his brows in confusion. "I... I must admit I don't remember you, but then I was a bit insular in school so I suppose it's not a surprise. You do look a bit like another girl I sort of knew, but she- well- you couldn't be her." He shook her hand, noting the warmth of it, as well as what felt like callouses from hard work. "Pleased to meet you," he replied, as the first wave of food began to arrive.

Her brother's name was like a punch to the gut, stealing a terrible amount of her cheer and making all her physical pains seem keen and biting all of the sudden. "Oh, how nice," she managed to say in a semblence of her normal tone, covering for herself by reaching for her water and taking a big gulp after attempting to clear her throat and ending up coughing.

So he was alive. Not that she ever wished harm on her brother, but she'd spent the last several years certain he was dead, since she'd never had a response to the couple of owls she'd managed to send that time. She had no way of knowing they might never have arrived, or what had happened to them, but her assumption had been two different scenarios -- that he and/or her family were dead, or they rejected her for being a werewolf, which she had foolishly included in the letters.

"Thanks," she said.

She grinned, glad he was a good sport. She had inadvertantly offended more than one person in the past, never meaning to, but she didn't always have a good sense when to just... stop. "Well thank you, handsome," she said. She chuckled. "I would tussle for your honor, or dishonoring, or however you want to put it, especially with a girl with a pretty name like Rose," she told him with a grin. "Mmmm. That's an idea. You can point me at a pretty one."

She lifted a shoulder, letting her curls bounce around her face prettily and conveniently hide some of her expression. She sucked at lying, though certain lies had become... routine by necessity. "There was a lot going on," she said, hoping the subject would pass on quickly. She nearly responded to his next words but a divine, heaven sent smell hit her, her head snapping up and honing in with gold-glinting in her eyes on the platter of food including the rare steak.

"Thank the gods, yummy," she said fervently, managing to not quite pounce on it when it was set in front of her. She immediately started in on it with a knife, her focus intense upon the meat for a long moment. She might have let out a little whimper and moan of pleasure as she chewed the first bite, she really wasn't aware of herself other than she really, really needed that meat right now.

Dennis frowned at the way the colour seemed to drain from her face for a moment, wondering what particularly he'd said to hit a nerve. While his mind was alight with curiosity, he forced himself to pretend that he hadn't notice, and nodded genially at her. "Yeah it was really nice. He's a great bloke." He tilted his head in a oddly dog-like manner. "You're welcome."

He rolled his eyes and gave a long suffering sigh. "Just what I need in my life, another woman with a crush on me," he said melodramatically before poking his tongue out at her. "I'd love some men to fight over me, but short of that you and Rose fighting for my dishonour would be a pretty fantastic sight. I'd probably have to go down on Rose's boyfriend Rolf to help him deal with the shock, which would be such a hard thing to do." He began laughing to himself quietly at the thought of what Rolf would say if he ever found out about this conversation, before refocusing on the conversation at hand. "Sounds like a plan! We could take down a straight/gay combo, what do you say?"

"Ah, of course," Dennis said tactfully, taking in the way she hid her face slightly. "I get it. My brother died during the war, so I know how tough things were for people."

Normally, Dennis would have been ever so slightly miffed at being ignored in favour of food. But the way she set upon her food and began wolfing it down was- well, surprising enough that he merely watched with bemusement, eating his own food at a rather more sedate pace. She gave a moan of pleasure that reminded him very much of watching a group of weres he'd met in India set upon a freshly slaughtered goat. He shook his head for a moment, ridding himself of the thought - werewolves and their ilk were shunned in British society, and he doubted very much that the woman before him would be so open and friendly with him if she were one. "Enjoying it," he asked at last, flashing her an amused smile.

Genie stuck her tongue right back out at him, comfortable with that level of maturity or lack there of. "Yes, I can tell, such a hardship," she said dryly. The name Rolf was all too familiar, and how many of those could there be in the wizarding world? she thought with a sigh. This was going to be a harder place to exist than she first thought. He'd been in her year, though a different House. "That works for me, though I'll go either way," she said with an easy shrug. She was hard to shame, and dangerous as well, but she doubted he'd do that. "Or both." Her smirk was pronounced.

She hated lying, but she honestly didn't know how to move past that just at this moment, especially since she hadn't known til just now that her brother was alive and apparently very well. Not quite meeting his eyes, she did find the bravery to ask a question. "Where would I look for a list of the dead? I've not been back since the war," she said, not knowing how to be more tactful than that bluntness right now.

Genie was starving, there was no two ways about it. They had hunted the other night, but the change burned so many calories and left her feeling like a hollowed out pit in so many ways. She was almost finished with the steak, eating neatly but quickly. She glanced up at his words, eyes glinting assessingly, wolf in them for a second before she blinked and gave him a brilliant smile. "Yes. Sorry," she said, her arm unconsciously loosely curled around her plate now that she was done cutting it up. "I haven't eaten all day, not anything of substance. Didn't mean to be rude."

"Woe is me, two people fighting gladiator style for my affections," he cried dramatically, eliciting concerned looks from a group of venerable witches pouring over copies of Transfiguration Today, but he didn't care. "Plus you know, Rolf is an absolute fox so that'd be nice." He smirked at her before frowning and leaning forward to look at her earnestly. "I'm only joking about Rolf by the way. He's dating my best friend and I would never go for someone like that, plus I don't think Scamander swings my way."

Her question took him by surprise for a moment, and he was fairly certain it showed on his face. "Well there's a memorial at Hogwarts for the various people who died in the battle, well except for the Death Eaters." He scratched his chin for a moment in thought. "Plus there's the Monument on Monument Alley, and you can also see the entire list of combatants at the Department of Magical Law Enforcement I guess? I have a copy of it somwhere if you'd like to look at it?"

Dennis shot her an even more deeply amused expression, taking in the way her arm was curled protectively around the plate. "I can understand that," he replied mildly. "Although uh, I'm not going to take any of your food so you don't have to shield it from me, also you should possibly slow down slightly to stop yourself from getting indigestion."

He resumed eating his lasagne, and chips at a far more sedate pace, searching around for a change of topic. "So have you just moved into the area," he asked curiously, stopping to have a sip of butterbeer.

Genie snickered, not bothering to hide her amusement from the other witches even if she supposed she should appear more respectable. She might need that when the time came her secret came out -- she knew from experience that within six months of a normal job she'd likely be discovered. "Well that's too bad, you seem quite the catch," she told him frankly.

She nibbled on her lower lip as he listed the place, really not wanting to go down to the DMLE. The Magical Creature control department wasn't far from it, she thought, and that was the last thing she needed, for them to be aware that a pack had moved into London, as harmless as hers was. "Maybe I could borrow your copy?" she half-asked. "I'll give it back. I'd just... we've been living in the country and didn't even have a great access to owls, generally, so we're honestly a bit behind on things." She shrugged a shoulder. Yes, it had been a while, but she knew a few wizards and witches from the villages who hadn't been to London since their last year of Hogwarts.

She looked down and then back up, grinning ruefully and retracting her arm, feeling self conscious. "Sorry. My flatmates have a tendency to pick off my plate," she said. It wasn't a lie, though the more honest truth would have been that just the other day she'd squabbled over a kill with them and was used to defending her rights. She was known to stab someone with a fork if they took food without permission. "I'm just... really hungry." She did make a concerted effort to slow down, though.

She still finished the steak quickly, and started in on something else at a more sedate pace now that the biggest part of her craving for rare meat had been at least temporarily sated. "Yes, just a couple weeks ago. We're still getting settled in and finding jobs and all." And she still missed the country, and the wide open spaces. She'd adjust eventually though.

Dennis snorted and shook his head. "Yes, I'm such a catch me," he said, a tone of bitterness creeping into his voice. "Such a catch that I caught my ex-boyfriend fucking my ex-best friend and then got blamed for the situation by them." He winced, instantly regretting his words and the fact that he couldn't seem to stop himself bringing up the painful past experience. Seriously, he was like a broken record with that.

He nodded thoughtfully. "Where're you living? I can owl them or floo the list over to you if you like," he said, before frowning at her in confusion. "I don't mean to pry, but were you hiding in the Muggle world? Because the Prophet printed a full list of the casualties, not that it's an issue as I'm a Muggle born." He cleared his throat and blushed, hoping he hadn't offended her.

"Ugh I hate that," he said fervently, shaking his head with annoyance. "I don't mind when it's like a share meal like dim sum or something, but seriously why do other people feel the need to eat your food eh?" He frowned again, another flare of something lit up the back of his brain, but he simply nodded and smiled.

"Do you need help finding a job," he asked her curiously. "There's a couple of jobs going at the Prophet if you need something? I mean it's not a fantastic job, but it could help?" He wasn't entirely sure why, but he felt a strong need to help the woman. He snorted to himself for a moment, wondering if it was his Hufflepuff friends rubbing off on him. "Although what type of jobs are you looking for?"

Genie grimaced in sympathy. "Well that's shite. I mean, I'm at least up front that I find commitment hard," she said. It was something she tried to be honest about. She thought, maybe with the right person, or maybe people. She had found herself content a couple of times with two people, and her eye not wandering, so she thought maybe... maybe someday. If she were lucky. "But that? That's low."

She chewed and swallowed a bit of the shepherd's pie. "We're living in a couple of side-by-side places in Angel? But we aren't on the Floo. Purely Muggle area," she said and lifted one shoulder in a shrug. She took another bite to avoid answering immediately. "You could say that, I guess. I got stuck there without a wand, and then it was just easier to stay there on the whole. We do some business in both worlds -- I brew, but I also make soaps and perfumes and such, so I make stuff for both sides of it all." On top of everything else, and she didn't even know shops in this area that would cater to that yet. She kept it vague and chatty while still answering his question.

"They can share if I let them. But sometimes they get stabbed with a fork. Fair's fair. Or I eat their leftovers and show them." She smirked.

"I've got a waitressing gig at a restaurant probably in the bag, for now, but I tend to juggle a couple of jobs at least, and it'd be good to get into the wizarding world again, maybe? What sort of things do they have at the Prophet?" she asked curiously. She sipped at her water, regarding him over the rim of her glass. "I do a bit of everything, really. I'm not terribly picky, especially if they'll let me have a couple of days I want off to do the camping thing with everyone."

Dennis nodded and grinned toothily at her, still a little embarrassed for being so utterly cavalier with the skeletons in his closet, and for not being over the whole damn thing. "I can appreciate that," he said with a serious nod, before furrowing his brow. "I mean, it would be a red flag for me where I in a relationship with you, but since that's not likely to be the case I reckon it's a fine attitude to have. The whole telling people up front, that is." He gave a little embarrassed cough and flushed again. "Sorry for brining it up," he apologised. "Every now and then I get verbal diarrhea and it just sort of burst out."

He whistled appreciatively. "Angel? Nice! Living in zone one would be fabulous, especially if as you say you're blending as Muggles, nice and easy to get around by tube if you have to." He smiled at her, though he couldn't quite shake the feeling that she was avoiding his gaze, or possibly keeping something from him. He surmised that to be living in Angel so soon after moving to the city that Genie was probably living on an estate, but he didn't think that was the cause for her shadiness. "Makes sense to me," he said with a nod. "All my siblings are and were magical, but our parents are Muggles so we have Muggle identities that we can trod out when it suits - I think you're just taking it to the next logical conclusion."

"Wow I really need to introduce you to Rose and Rolf, the result would be absolutely beautiful, or bloody and horrendous - depending on how you feel about Palahniuk-style situations I guess." he replied with a happy sigh. "There isn't always recognition of individual ownership vis-à-vis food."

"Oh man, at one of Angel's famous diners," he asked, his imagination and curiosity both firing off with the sought of sudden and inevitable intensity of a rocket chucked on a bonfire. "The Prophet's looking for copy editors and general support crew at the moment, so there could be something to help you?" He furrowed his brow again at the mention of camping, then shrugged. "Well I don't know, but I guess it'd be okay, especially if it was a part-time job?"

"I do try," she said, looking a little embarrassed. "I think it's partly I just haven't met the right person? People? I don't know. But I don't ever want to hurt anyone." Which was probably why she kept to mostly one night stands and such. Or casual sorts of things. She lifted one shoulder again, smiling and waving a hand through the air. "No worries, lovie, shite happens. I am very sorry those blokes were so awful, though. They're not worth your time. Piss in their tea, though, that should make you feel a little better," she said. Considering it was a rather literal idea to her, from her time with the male weres and their concept of marking their territory, but it came off as a good tease.

"The tube is all right, yes," she said with a nod. "It's nice enough, though I miss the country. I'll adjust, but it's just, yeah." She shrugged. "But yeah, we all have muggle IDs and such, it works for us. Easier to get jobs in the muggle world, outside of places like this. There's so few sizable magical communities, once you get away from London and Hogsmeade and all, so many people are just scattered about." Which worked when you could apparate in a lot of ways. But she and her pack couldn't, aside from Brighid.

She snorted. "So long as I'm cool, it's cool. Just don't touch my steak." Her grin was a little toothy, the wolf still too close. "I'll bring home my leftovers for everyone, so long as my name isn't on it, they can have it." Though it wouldn't go very far, she knew, especially if selfish Galahad got to it first.

"Hm, maybe something in support?" she said. "I don't know. I'm used to juggling a lot of jobs, and not being tied down to exact days can be helpful." Especially if Alexander could do it for her during the moon, provided it wasn't a bad one and he wasn't too affected. "I know it makes me sound uber-flaky or something, but there are some things I just have to do, you know? I made a commitment to them a long time ago." And it wasn't like she could stop being a werewolf, something she wasn't going to say.

Dennis chuckled softly and nodded kindly. "I'm sure if you're meant to find the right person, or uh, people then you will? It just takes time and circumstances I suppose?" He threw his head back and laughed at her suggestion of pissing in their tea. "Merlin and Morgana no, I could never do that! Think of the poor unsuspecting tea," he said, shaking his head in mock anguish. "No I'm sure the Englishman in me would shrivel up and die if I even thought about peeing in a nice cup of darjeeling or somesuch. Thanks for the suggestion though, it's much nicer than Rose's 'cut their dicks off and feed them to them' which was a tad um, barbaric?"

"I can't understand missing the country, me," he said with a smile and a shake of his head. "I'm a city person born and bred, so all that room to run and roam is sort of, well... wasted on me really. I can appreciate it, and I understand that a lot of people prefer it but it's definitely far too boring for me." He took another bite of his lasagne and nodded thoughtfully. "I guess so, though with apparition and the floo network and brooms I've never really thought about it. The people I know who live out in the rurals tend to apparate."

He snorted and lifting his hands in mock fright. "I wouldn't dream of it madam! I value my life, liberty, and the functionality of my extremities so rest assure that I will never touch your steak." He returned her smile, though there was something about hers that was deeply unsettling, and strangely hungry. Dennis couldn't decide if it was hunger for friendship, residual hunger for a shag with him despite his sexual preference, or something baser. He blinked several times and refocused on her with some effort. "Well that's nice of you at least, and I get the feeling really - I grew up in a house of siblings, though I was quite a bit older."

"Hmmm..." he said, scratching his head thoughtfully. "Well your um," he looked at her with a frown for several seconds, wildly searching around for a suitably descriptive and non-insulting word, "Particular schedule, would probably pose some challenges for you in terms of keeping down a more steady job at the paper as they tend not to do shifts, but I reckon you could tag on and off as like a gofer on one of the international teams when they go off to get stories?"

Genie snickered appreciatively at his show of dramatics over the tea. "Poor Englishman. Lost without his tea." She tsked quietly. "Best not visit America so you don't get thrown in the harbor and drown." She teased him with a grin on her face. She mmed quietly. "Well honestly that's not a horrid idea either," she said. "Something to be said for the impression that savagery makes on one."

She shrugged. "I don't know how to Apparate," she said matter of factly. "If me and my mates did, we'd likely still be out there. Only Brighid can, and she admits she's a shite teacher at it." She pushed away her current dish, considering her selections for the next. She was finally starting to feel more the thing, though she still ached all over. "And you'd be surprised how few people have a floo out there. Ruddy hard to get them out to do one, honestly." Plus money and letting the bigoted ministry have access to one's home, that was hard.

"Nice to have a slew of sibs, in some ways, yeah?" She said, tilting her head to regard him. "They still in school?" It was a guess since he said they were younger.

She considered it, brain mentally going over the pros and cons of such a thing. She did yearn for travel. But she also knew she had responsibilities, some far beyond those most her age had, to her pack and their well being. She was responsible for a portion of the wolfsbane every month, and the brewing could be intensive. "I'd have to learn more about what it'd take, but it could work," she said, making a mental note to see where to make inquiries at. "Travel would be nice."

Dennis nodded sadly. "Indeed, tea is just so important to me. Although America was surprisingly alright? Nobody threw me in Boston Harbour which was a nice surprise." He frowned and shook his head. "Nah, hurting people sucks. The impression of savagery can be found in the injustice that murdered my brother, and so many others during the war. I'm much happier being seen as weak if it means I don't bring people unecessary pain and suffering." He flashed her a grin and waggled his eyebrows. "Even if it means not hurting my ex."

"Oh wow, that would suck royally," he replied sympathetically. "I don't know how I'd get around without it." He lifted his eyebrows quizzically. "Is this Brighid a certified apparition instructor, because that may be the reason why she can't teach it very well. Have you considered going into the MoM for training?" He tilted his head and considered. "Can't say I really know, so I'll take your word for it. I mean I know joining the floo network can be a hassle..."

"I guess," he hazarded, amused in spite of himself at the way she phrased things. "My brother and sisters? Yeah they're all still at Hogwarts. Pip's in her seventh year actually, and the other two are a few years below."

He sat back and observed her mulling the idea over. "I could send you an owl with the information if you'd like," he asked, smiling at her encouragingly. "I know one of the girls is off to the States to do a story on North American-European Wizarding relations, and I'm off to do a story about comparative treatment of werwolves in the Caribbean. Apparently they get a far better deal there, as they should."

"Hmmm, on the whole I agree," she said, though she lived with an animal in her blood and soul that sang for violence at times. "I'm sorry for your brother. The war tore a lot of things apart." There was an understanding note in her voice, even as she didn't quite seem like she was going to expound upon it. "Still, a slap upside the head? Sometimes those work really well." Or taking him by the scruff of the neck and shaking him really good, she thought, eyes glinting.

She lifted a shoulder again. "We've got an auto, plus Xander has a motorcycle." Her grin was positively wolfish for just a second. "I love that damn thing. I want to get one of my own at some point, it's wicked fun. Plus there's always the tube." They managed pretty well all things considered. "Eh. I should look into it, yes." She sounded a little dubious, but it stemmed from her knowledge of how little Ministry workers cared for werewolves, and secrets do out. Especially when there are creature wards in random places, she'd heard. "They're as bad as electricians who say they're going to be there at eight spot on and don't get there til two, and then can't do shite because they don't have what they need."

She grinned. "They'll be nipping at your heels soon," she said.

"That'd be good, yeah." She blinked and regarded him with more intensity, forgetting her food completely for a moment for the first time since it had arrived, fork in the air and everything. She must tread carefully, she knew. She couldn't, couldn't, risk outing herself and her pack yet. "I've heard the relations aren't always on, right?" she started, fork making it back to her mouth and she chewed and listened to his answer. "Oh, the Caribbean, really? Wonder why that is."

"Oh really," Dennis asked her with an amused smile and raised eyebrows. "I felt you were very much a 'better to smite you with' sort of girl, but I must've been mistaken," he teased gently, before sobering. "Thank you, and my condolences for anyone you lost as well." He snorted again and shrugged. "Stuff like that is okay, maybe, but on the whole... I like to keep things just."

"A car, really," he asked, genuinely interested. "Isn't it harder to get a car license then an apparition license or is that just hearsay?" He quirked his lips at the way she mentioned the motorcycle. The only thing I know about motorcycles is that one of my roommates in school really, really wanted to fuck a girl on one. I could always set the two of you up," he offered, before chuckling. "But what do you like about them?" He sensed that for some reason - most likely a fear of splinching, or possibly a memory of splinching meant that she didn't want to learn how to apparate, so he let the matter drop. "Ugh I know what you mean, Rose and I had to take the whole day off and she had to offer to blow the connectnician for us to actually get the Floo hooked up. Disaster."

He quirked an eyebrow at her with amusement. "That's an interesting turn of phrase, but yes, they're getting older. My sister has pink hair now, apparently it's the thing at Hogwarts."

"You could say that again," he said with a sigh. "The Department of Magic in the US thinks it should run the magical world and the rest of the world uh, well disagrees." He turned back to his own food and chewed thoughtfully for a few minutes while he thought. He knew his rather liberal ideas about werewolves weren't always popular, and he didn't want to alienate a potential friend. "I think it has to do with the local vodun practices, plus a bit of folklore maybe? I'm not actually entirely sure, and that's what I plan to find out."

"Well, a girl does rather like a bit of smiting when people are idiots, but it doesn't have to be permanent," she said dryly and laughed. She understood his point of view on violence, but a certain amount of physicality was a part of her life that might not seem normal to a pacifist, even if it was a consensual sort -- and she didn't mean sex. "Thanks. The war... yeah. Fucked up a lot of things." She missed her family, she did, though she had mourned a lot for them over the years, especially in not knowing.

She snorted softly. "I don't think it's that much harder, but Devon made me practice forever before he'd bring me in for my license. And you can't splinch yourself doing it, so there's always that." Her eyebrows raised and a smirk graced her features. "Oooh, baby, mmmm," she said and waggled her eyebrows at him. "Only if your friend is as cute as you are." Not that looks were prime in her choices, usually, but it made teasing him so fun. "Because you go fast, and it's fun, and yeah."

Genie raised her eyebrows. "Pink? Really? And it's not against dress code?" she said.

She laughed. "Oh yes. I think that's sort of true of the view of the US government in the Muggle world as well, sadly. I don't know how true it is, but governments will be governments." She regarded him intensely but sought to hide that intensity, seemingly paying attention to her food as well as to him. "Well, they can't get too much worse than here," she said. "It's a shite hand to be dealt, especially since I've heard tell that the numbers are up since the war." She knew it for fact, but she'd die before revealing other weres she knew to be living peacefully to anyone who might do them harm.

Dennis rolled his eyes and snorted. "So what 'girls don't start fights but they can end them' is it," he asked, before wincing noticeably. "Ah, which given that you probably didn't grow up on Disney films and thus have never seen the Aristocats, I'm willing to bet that was just a very weird comment for you?" He lifted an eyebrow before shrugging and nodding. "I guess that's why they called it a war? Although it's a bit egotistical of us to call it the Wizarding War when it only affected Britain."

"Ah practice, the bane of the deeply lazy," he replied with a solemn shake of his head. "Still good on you for getting it." He lifted his eyebrows when she mentioned splinching, feeling oddly smug that he'd guessed why she was so resistant to the idea. His smugness was short lived however, replaced almost instantly with a mixture of amusement and exasperation. "Down girl," he said with a little laugh. "Someone needs to hose you down, or at least give you some alone time with a pulsating shower head." He paused and waggled his eyebrows, "Besides, no one's as cute as me. I'm the pinnacle of human cuteness."

He nodded lazily. "Yep, pastel pink. Apparently the teaching staff have given in to the onslaught of dyed hair brought on by the whole 'emo' craze, and then she walks in with pastel pink hair and it caused something of a stir."

"Yeah it definitely is," Dennis said sourly, slipping into a Muggle worldview for a moment. "Bush is a bloody scourge on the world." He shook his head slightly and lowered his eyes in embarrassment, so he missed her gaze for a moment, only catching the end of it. "It's absolute bollocks," he agreed with a huff of emotion. "I didn't know that about the numbers actually, but I'll make sure to try and put it in my piece. I've been given full control of the article so my views won't be censored which will be good."

Genie grinned. "No, I totally have seen the Aristocats," she assured him. "Kick arse movie. And I love that line. Because we sure as hell can finish them, yes. If I had a tail right now I'd swish it just so to prove my point." She laughed softly. "Hm, true, though it did touch on some of the continent a bit as well." One of her pack was foreign, point to fact.

She leered playfully at him. "Rawr," she said, and laughed again. "I'll take someone hosing me down with a pulsating shower head. Too bad you're not offering." She pouted her lips at him, unable to help herself. He seemed to be amenable to teasing, though, so she didn't feel bad.

"Well, it's better than matte black," Genie agreed. "That's not always the attractive colour, especially with the tendency to pasty English skin." It was quite unfortunate sometimes, in fact.

"Warmonger," she said and nodded. She regarded his reactions carefully, drawing a slow breath in her nose and licking her lips, hoping to get a good scent reaction. This close after the moon she could get an especially in depth and accurate reading. She shrugged and tried to turn her attention at least superficially back to her food. "Not sure you'd be able to document it. Not like they'd get registered or anything." She cautioned herself to be careful. She'd not been here long enough to be discovered. "Hm, well, it's the Prophet. Are you really sure about that?" she said, more than a little cynically.

Dennis looked at her in shock for a moment before breaking out into a huge grin. "You have? That's amazing! I love the Aristocats, and the Emperor's New Groove, and Hercules, and the Lion King, and Aladdin, and the Little Mermaid, and the Sword in the Stone and..." he trailed off and blushed slightly. "I just really like Disney movies okay?" He sat back in his chair and gave her a strange smile. "Refugees in France and Belgium and Spain and a bit of resistance don't even approach the same level of destruction that happened here though, does it? It's not like any European ministries fell or became involved beyond pressuring the ICW to make a 'a 'strongly worded condemnation of blood terrorist ideologies' but I see your point."

He rolled his eyes at her again. "Definitely not, you lack a penis - I'm assuming - and you have those weird flesh pillows on your chest and you look like a girl, so definitely not piquing my interest at all." He stopped and grinned at her mischievously for a moment. "Now if you had a brother that'd be a completely different scenario."

"Ha, yeah I know exactly what you mean. The Creevey colouring wouldn't support black hair very well I don't think, but you know black hair and pasty skin seems to be what emo kids go for."

He sighed heavily and nodded. "Yeah, I'm not a were and the packs have no reasons to trust me when so many other Wizards have brought them nothing but pain," he said with a sigh of exasperation. "I wish I could have a conversation with someone about what it's like." He looked up at her and snorted. "The purge at the Prophet did a fairly good job at removing all the dead wood, sycophants, liars, and other assorted unsavoury characters, so yes I am."

"Halfblood," she said by way of explanation. "My grandparents on one side are Muggles. Besides, I've spent the last six years plus in the Muggle world." She grinned faintly. "So do I." She took a sip of water and cleared her throat, singing the first several lines of one of Ariel's songs from the Little Mermaid. "Look at this stuff, isn't it neat? Wouldn't you think my collection's complete? Wouldn't you think I'm the girl, The girl who has everything?" Her voice was lovely, if a little huskier than Ariel's, and she grinned over at him more broadly. "I can sing almost all the songs from the ones I've seen."

"Hey! My flesh pillows are awesome, I'll have you know," she told him primly. "They're also very comfy to rest the head upon, when they're not being kissed." She couldn't help it, she broke out into giggles for a moment. That was all that hid the way she felt gutted at the mention of a brother again, and she cast her eyes down and to the side. "I have housemates?" she offered, knowing she had no way of knowing what her brothers were even like these days.

"YEah well, I don't think pasty and English sallow are precise synonyms!"

She lifted a shoulder, still intent on him. "Perhaps if you work on earning their trust. It might take a while," she suggested mildly. "Hmm, if you say so. I'll have to read it more often than sporadically," she said.

Dennis grinned at her and clapped loudly, earning a few confused looks from nearby patrons, and one highly amused whoop from a token Muggle-born. "Well done," he said appreciatively.

He sigh gustily and wagged his finger at her. "No. Nein. Non. Iie. Flesh pillows are for those inclined." He snorted at her giggles, unaware of the turmoil his next comment caused her. "Well I'll just have to meet them, won't I?"

"Yes, because you're so sallow," he replied with a jocular point of his finger. "Still I see your point."

He nodded thoughtfully then took out his watch. "Merlin's Teeth, I'm sorry to do this but I totally have to rush," he said, jumping up quickly and putting a couple of galleons on the table. "Owl me though yes, or I'll owl you?" He turned and began to jog out before turning and grinning at her. "It was nice to meet you."
