Journal -- Zacharias Smith
[Private to Self]

I think I've had a breakthrough. I might finally understand how to do this, though understanding and being able to do are not the same thing. I still can't get it. Thankfully, Professor McGonagall agreed to meet with him next week to discuss it. She said she didn't mind, that she was open to discussing theories, practises, and technicalities. I half hope I can make some progress between now and then, but, regardless, I'm actually very excited about this.

I'm not sure I'm as excited to be going out tonight with Ernie. I think the perks to going to a cover night is that I shouldn't be expected to do much talking. I need to focus on that. And the fact that Ernie didn't have to invite me out for my birthday. I wouldn't have been upset if he hadn't, but the fact remains that he could have left it at "happy birthay" or less. Still. Maybe we should have picked another night.

[/Private to Self]

Has this week gone by quickly for anyone else, or am I the only one with that feeling?

And does anyone have any book recommendations? I need something to read during my lunch break.

I can certainly recommend The Right Road of Conduit by Robert Fitzhume. It is an interesting tale of a man's quest to navigate the waters of wizarding politics in the nineteenth century. An excellent read for a piece of fiction.

I'll admit I'm not normally into books on politics, but I'm willing to give most things a fair chance. I'll look into it when I go to the bookstore this weekend. Thank you.

Too fast. I don't like it.

I read this newish Muggle fiction book called Dead Witch Walking. It's gicen me some nice ideas for charms work. Plus it's entertaining. It's by some lady called Kim Harrison.

I have others but I'll have to look up titles and authors when I'm home.

It's like the year is determined to be done and over with all too fast.

Oh? What's it about? I'll have to look into that book, too.

It does and I'm not sure I want it done yet.

It's about this witch in an alternate world from this one who leaves something that's a lot like the Aurory, only more corrupt? And ends up with a death curse hanging over her head and has to get out of it.

I'll lend you my copy, if you want. I liked it well enough to keep it. It's the first in a series.

This week had gone buy surprisingly fast.

We've got quite a few guests that I'll have to check out tonight. Seems quite a few came into town to enjoy the Muggle festivities.

Good to know it isn't just me experiencing this.

They aren't going to stay throughout the weekend for the rest of them? Though I suppose any business is good business, and it frees up rooms for others.

I just wish the weeks I'm on days didn't fly so quickly.

Those who are staying the weekend will be coming in later today. I'll get to meet them in the morning.

Why do you wish that?

It's easier to spend time with everyone when my work schedule is about the same. I feel like I miss all the fun when I work nights.
