Roger calmly took the bat from her, recognising the fact that the vast number of beaters he knew prefered to keep to one single, lucky bat. With his teammate Pod, he tended to make all sorts of deeply lascivious jokes about it, but his self-preservational instincts told him that the enraged woman before him probably wouldn't appreciate it. "Thanks," he said instead, with another disarming smile. He was going to win her over, no matter what.
He nearly laughed at the extremely short way she replied to him. Almost. "Does the one in danger of death by massive blunt trauma get to ask what exactly has prompted this bout of aggression," he asked after several minutes of leading a group of bludgers on a merry chase around the park. "Although I do appreciate," he added piously, "That you're not in a prison-like mood."
