Lucy's eyes lit up at the sight of the cauldron. She loved watching the adults around her performing magic and couldn't wait for the day she had a wand of her own. "Oh, I'm very strong," she grinned. "But it's okay, Daddy isn't very heavy. Uncle George says he's a light-weight, too."

That prompted a great rolling of Percy's eyes. Thankfully, Lucy didn't know that her Uncle George had been referring to his tolerance to alcohol and not his actual weight, and even that had been because Percy rarely drank around his family. Had they seen him stumbling out of the Hog's Head every night during that last, terrible year, they might think differently, but he was quite happy to support the misconception.

His face fell a little at the mention of no father to dress up for, and he was once again filled with pride at the strength she showed in the face of her loss. "I think toffee apples are compensation enough for a lack of costume," he offered.

"May I have one, Aunt Penny? Please, please please?" Lucy begged, jumping and jostling Penelope's hand as she did so. Percy hoped she agreed as it would hopefully distract from their other purpose in coming here - the settling of their bet.
