Entry tags:character: julian travers, character: pandora montgomery, character: tristan travers

RP: Tristan, Julian, and Pandora
Who: Tristan Travers, Julian Travers, and Pandora Montgomery (with a cameo by Hyperion Montgomery)
What: Tristan gets out of prison, and Julian and Pandora are there to meet him.
Where: Atrium of the Ministry of Magic
When: Friday, 30 October, 2004. Morning.
Rating: SFW as of right now. Will change if it changes.

As the lift rattled to the the atrium of the Ministry of Magic, Tristan Travers couldn't help but replay the finally decision to let him go. He would not be going back to Azkaban once he left this building, despite the escort he and his solicitor received. He was free. He could step out of the Ministry of Magic a free man. The thought was enough to make him grin and hug the bag of clothes his solicitor had handed to him upon entering the lift; a simple black robe was all he'd had on him upon entering Azkaban, a robe that no longer fit. Leaving, he wore another robe, also black, but of finer quality and better fit than his old robe would have been. He hugged that bag tight, silently praying, as the doors to the lift clanked open, that this was not a trick or a dream.

Tristan followed his solicitor out and toward the golden gates that separated the bank of lifts from the atrium itself. Just a few more feet, he told himself, putting one step over the other, brushing his long, dark hair out of his eyes. (Though his solicitor had tsked and fussed over the length of his hair, which, in the end, didn't seem to have had any bearing on the outcome of his appeal trial.) Just a few more...

His solicitor reached the gates first and opened one, holding it for Tristan. He paused, letting the smile fall from his face before glancing over at his Auror escort. He was beyond ecstatic to be leaving to go anymore but prison, but smiling at the Auror -- at his cousin -- seemed too much. He didn't allow himself a hopeful or pleading look as he briefly studied the man he'd once played with when they were both little. He took in what he could of him (as he certainly didn't expect to see him again on some social visit or anything else of the sort while secretly hoping he never saw him again for anything the Ministry deemed nefarious of his own actions), and when Hyperion nodded toward him, he nodded back. Then he faced forward again and stepped through those golden gates for what he hoped would be the last time.

Part of a weight lifted off his shoulders as he continued into the atrium proper, following behind his solicitor and his quick pace. He wondered, briefly, if he were supposed to follow the man back to his office or somewhere specific when he noticed where he was heading.

A tall man and a short woman stood off to one side in the atrium, the man pacing and the woman fidgeting. It'd been over six years since he last saw either of them, and while he noticed all the changes they'd gone through physically, he'd have recognised them anywhere. Again, he smiled, walking faster, nearly knocking over the solicitor in his haste to reach them. He did manage to bump into a wizard, not stopping to apologise because he wasn't sorry that wizard hadn't moved out of the way despite seeing him.

Without thought, Tristan let his bag with his old robe in it drop to the floor, using both arms to wrap the man up in a tight hug. "Julian," he breathed, nearly clinging to his older brother. He didn't want to let go, didn't want to lose the feeling of comfort that came from holding on to him so tightly. But eventually he did, just to bend down to wrap his cousin up in another tight hug.

Dora was nervous. She would admit it. She was dying to see Tristan again; she wasn't sure if he'd ever know how much she'd missed him, and how bad she felt that he'd gotten so much time when she'd gotten out early. She'd done what she could for him, but she did know it probably wasn't enough.

But he was coming home now, and she was also ridiculously excited to be able to see him again. She'd spent time this week making him a room in her new flat, basically entirely expanded space and all for him. She'd chosen the furniture with him in mind, knowing what his taste used to be, at least, and everything else could be transfigured and charmed.

She was also nerve wracked that she was in the ministry building. All the aurors and such made her twitch, especially since many of them side-eyed her suspiciously as she just loitered there with Julian. She fidgeted a bit, tugged at her earlobe, tapped the heel of her shoe, her face the particular shade of blank that meant she didn't want anyone to know how she was feeling.

That changed when Tristan came out -- her expression opened up completely, her smile bright and warm. She hung back just enough so that Julian as brother got the first hug, but then she practically threw herself at him, careful only not to bowl him over. She did cling to him for a long moment, face buried against him as she took a shaky breath. She felt like crying though she rarely ever did except in private, but this was exceptional circumstances.

"Missed you, Tristan," she said, voice a bit muffled. She reluctantly loosened her hold, though in reality she wanted to hug on him for next to forever in this moment. She brought her hands up to each of his cheeks and kept him low for a moment, though, so she could press a kiss to each one before giving him another quick hug. Though she didn't cry, her emotions did shine in her eyes.

Julian had been impatient. That wasn't anything new to him, really, as he generally was a man who wanted things immediately, but he'd been waiting six years to get his brother back. He'd almost been unable to believe that today was the day when he woke up that morning, at least not until a good slap in the face in the form of Wallace's tail had brought him back to reality.

But six years of being unable to see or talk to his brother, six years of letters and solicitor's meetings and a home emptier than it had been in years. Six years of wondering if Tristan would hate him for leaving and running, for not being there to stop his brother from being used against his will... Six years of guilt and shame and trying to keep hope alive. Each thought and worry has circled in his mind with every step of his pacing.

Yet the moment Tristan came out, it all left his mind and he could finally wrap his little brother up in his arms like he'd done so often before, and for a moment, he could almost believe they were eleven and seven again. He found himself growing tearful and didn't mind at all letting Tristan go so that Pandora could have a shot at him, though he stayed right next to them, even keeping a hand on Tristan's shoulder as if needing the constant contact to reassure himself that his brother was there and real.

"They don't need anything else, do they?" he asked, not wanting to prolong Tristan's discharge if he could help it. "Can you go now?" There was so much else he wanted to say, so much had happened in the last six years, but all of it could wait until Tristan was as far away from this place as possible.

Tristan didn't mind the extra contact from Julian. In fact, he enjoyed it. It was comforting and familiar even after six years. If he were honest, part of him wanted to take the pair of them and just cling to them until his muscles gave out, though he thought that might be a little strange to do in the middle of the Ministry's atrium. Also, he wasn't so sure he wanted the audience that would no doubt attract or to deal with the possibility of Aurors showing up to double check that they weren't trying to cause a scene. Maybe later he could have that moment, because now he was free. Absolutely free.

"No, no one needs anything else. You're free to go," the solicitor said, reaching out to shake Tristan's hand (a thank you issued as he shook the man's hand), then Julian's, and even Pandora's. "You know how to get ahold of me should you need anything else," he added with a smile before heading off to do whatever solicitors did when they weren't getting people out of jail. Tristan didn't know, and, at that moment, he didn't really care, though he made a mental note to send the man some kind of gift basket. Fruit, maybe? He'd think on that later.

"I don't know or care where, but can we go anywhere but here?" he asked Julian and Pandora. He leaned down and picked up his dropped bag. "Extra points to Slytherin and Hufflepuff if it's somewhere outside." He grinned. Outside would be good. He didn't care what the weather was just so long as he could breathe fresh air for a little bit, though anything but the stale stench of Azkaban would be a welcome treat. Like perhaps the scent of a wand shop, though that could wait, at least for a little bit.

Pandora took the bag from Tristan, mostly so she could slip her hand into his. She didn't want to give up holding on to him just yet. She shrugged the bag up onto her other shoulder, beaming at both him and Julian for a moment. She'd give them both a big hug here in a few moments, but she wanted to be out of here, especially with memories pressing in on her as well.

She remembered all too well when she'd gotten out. Nearly deaf and disbelieving, wandless and with nothing but what she was wearing and the extra robe, she'd just stood in the Atrium and felt so lost she still hated to think about it. When Filius had shown up, patted her hand, and told her he was taking her somewhere so she could apprentice with him, she'd nearly collapsed -- and had, later, when he'd apparated them to Hogsmeade and shown her the little flat he'd found for her. She'd cried like her world had ended, the first time in years in front of anyone.

"Well, how about ice cream? We can go to the Alley and then hit up a few places for you, love," she said, her comfortable Scottish accent coming out as it only did when she was at ease with the people she was with.

Julian moved to Tristan's other side and slipped his arm over his brother's shoulders - Merlin, hadn't there been a time when Tristan had been a lot shorter than him? And he felt so thin and frail that it had Julian wanting to bundle him up, take him home, and have Fluffy wait on him until he had some meat on his bones. But for now...

"You have the best ideas, as always, Dora." He made a wave to the solicitor - the man had made hundreds of galleons over the last six years from Travers purses - and led them toward the exit. Minutes later, they stood out on the street. It wasn't the nicest of days, but the sun shone through the clouds and it wasn't raining.

And his brother was home.

He didn't know what to say, what the occasion called for after these sorts of circumstances, so he simply said the first thing on his mind. "I got a dog while you were away. You can meet him later, he'll like you."

"Ice cream sounds fantastic," he said before they headed out of the Ministry to the streets of London. Tristan took a moment, enjoying the feel of his cousin's hand in his and his brother's arm over his shoulders, savouring the feel of fresh air on his face, sun on his skin. It didn't matter if the day were perfect or shite; it was absolutely wonderful for him, and he was glad he could share it with two of his favourite people. He squeezed Pandora's hand a bit and wrapped his free arm around Julian's back before starting the walk toward the Leaky Cauldron, letting his mind wander a bit on what ice cream flavour to order.

He turned his head to look at his brother -- to look down at him. When did that happen? Was it before or after prison? -- his brows raising a bit at the statement. "Am I really that easy to replace?" he asked, amusement in his voice and blue-green eyes. Honestly, he was glad to hear that Julian had something to take care of that would keep him company. Part of him had worried about his brother, worried about how he would handle everything with him in jail. Not that Tristan thought he was so important that he held their family together. Not by any means. But he did know his brother. And he couldn't help but worry, especially without much else to do to pass the time.

"You believe this?" he said, looking at Pandora. The corners of his mouth turned up in a smile. "He replaced me with a dog."

Dora giggled softly for a moment, her eyes full of amusement as well. "Yes, and he's a very nice dog. Fluffy. Gives good kisses and cuddles," she added, grey-green eyes flicking from one brother to the other as she smirked wickedly. She couldn't resist teasing either of them, especially today. It could have been pouring rain and she'd have said it was a gorgeous day, today.

The only thing better would have been her brother forgiving her, and well, she'd come to terms with that not happening in this lifetime. Mostly.

And Tristan was smiling, and it thrilled her and chased away the negative thoughts. He was so skinny, though. "Gods above, Tris, we have got to start feeding you." She pouted over at Julian. "Julessssss, does this mean I have to learn how to cook properly?" She'd never been fantastic at potions, but had worked hard at them until the dream of the Aurory was no more, and had given it up. Cooking had, likewise, been a challenge, and she barely managed to feed herself most days if she didn't order in.

Julian gave Dora a look of mock offence. "Fluffy's the house elf, Wallace is the dog. Who, by the way, is a perfect replacement for wayward brothers, even if he's a terrible conversationalist."

He grinned at Pandora's whining, happy he would get to give the good news this time. "It's funny you ask, Dora. Our great-grandfather, Orville, decided to give Tristan an elf of his own now that he's out. I suppose you'll get to reap the benefits as well." He pouted. "I wanted to train it up like I did Fluffy, but I wasn't allowed. Apparently I've corrupted too many elves." He shrugged carelessly.

"So what do you want it to make you first, Trist? It'll make anything you want. You'll never go hungry again." Not as long as Julian had anything to say about it.

Tristan let out a long, exaggerated sigh. "I've been replaced with a dog." He shook his head. "Maybe I should just go... stay at the Leaky then, yeah? I bet you gave the dog my bed, too," he teased, using the hand around his brother's back to gently poke at his far side. "You'll just have to come visit me without the dog if you want good conversation." Though, to be honest, Tristan didn't know how good he'd be at that just yet. He was so beyond out of the loop that the idea of trying to catch up with the world frightened him, just a little bit.

"Feeding me is good," he said to Pandora. But before he could tell her that she didn't have to worry about learning to cook for him, Julian spoke. And his brows rose high in interest, briefly, while he took in the news. He wasn't trusting enough to think his great-grandfather was giving him a house elf out of the goodness of his heart. Sure, Orville wasn't a total prat, but he didn't doubt that there was something else going on there. However, for the time being, he decided not to dwell on it. Let his great-grandfather's motives be a worry for another day.

"This is why you're not in the family business, eh? That, and you're shite at naming things," he said, laughing a bit. "But I've no idea what to ask if to make me first." Steak was in his mind, as well as shepherd's pie. However, part of him was scared he'd waste the food by throwing it up. Just the thought of such things made his stomach ache. He decided not to worry either of them with that information. "But first, I want that ice cream. I might be dying for something sweet. Six years without ice cream! That was the real punishment," he said, laughing again.

"Nope, you can stay with me," Dora consoled, a grin tucking itself into each cheek comfortably. She squeezed his hand in hers, halfway just to reassure herself he was still there and she wasn't, in fact, completely insane.

"Oh, good," she said, pleased for Tristan even if she felt a pang. She had been without an elf for so long... but she brushed that aside. At least she had a place to offer him. Just a couple months ago, all she'd had was a crappy one room flat, and they'd not have fit well. She'd never quite told him how not well off she'd been since the war. She glanced at Julian from under her lashes. "You and your corruption, Jules. Filling their heads with porn, again?" She teased.

She remembered perhaps too keenly what it had been like just out of Azkaban. Not that she'd usually eaten brilliantly since then, except sporadically, but she'd fix that whenever he was around. She went up on very tiptoe and kissed his cheek again. "I thought you might like the idea," she said simply.

They walked farther along, eventually hitting a place to enter into the Alleys. "I know I've told you some of the changes, love, but things are a bit different and the same all at thr same time," she said, partly in warning and partly reminder.

"The two of you will never be rid of me, then," he teased, though there was a small ache in his chest at the thought of Tristan going to live with Pandora. He could understand it, of course, but that didn't mean that he wouldn't have loved to have his brother back at home. "But you'll have to come visit me and Mum sometimes, at least for tea."

He rolled his eyes at Dora. "I keep telling them they don't have to neaten up my collection, but they insist it's their job. But I think the worst was when I told Gaylord's elf that he'd decided to take his eggs with a healthy heaping of tobasco sauce." He grinned at the memory - if there was ever an opportunity to aggravate his grandfather, he took it.

"But the important things are the same," he interjected. "I haven't changed, at least. Though Knockturn's gone, but there are a few people who still do business that others would think is 'questionable'. I like to lose a few galleons once a month betting on the crups, and I hear there's even an escort service that's started up."

"I don't want to be rid of you," he said quietly, giving his brother's side a squeeze. "Either of you." He squeezed his cousin's hand. And if he had it his way, they'd all live in the same house or flat and never be apart, but he was smart enough to know that that wouldn't happen in the end. He doubted Pandora wasn't welcome in his -- was it still his? -- house, but he wasn't a little kid who thought they could all just have one big massive sleepover for the rest of their lives. He wasn't even sure if he'd be allowed back into his childhood home. His mother -- a sharp pain stabbed him in the middle of the chest at both the thought of her and Julian's mention of her -- his mother might not want him. And it almost sounded like Julian might not, either, if he was talking about him visiting for tea. Suddenly, he really was wondering about the possibility of staying at the Leaky Cauldron, or maybe seeing if someone else would take him in, at least until he could get things sorted out for himself. He decided, though, to think about that later, shoving it all down deep before it could affect his happy mood and demeanour.

"If you changed, well, I think I'd be truly upset." He grinned. "But if it isn't Knockturn Alley, what is it now?" he asked. Silently, he hoped it wasn't another terrible pun. Whoever thought of some of these names for places in their world, that person deserved a stint in Azkaban. "Don't know that I care about the more questionable goings on. Or, rather, don't know if I'm allowed to," he said with a laugh, though the fact that his brother was betting on crups made him just a little worried. What were the crups doing that included betting on them? If it was included in the questionable activities, which it sounded like it could have been, then he was really worried. He didn't want Julian getting caught up in something that could get him in trouble. But he wouldn't fuss without knowing more.

"Anyway, I suppose you'll both have to help me figure out all the new things that have popped up in the last few years. Though, I believe I can avoid the escort service for now." He waggled his brows in jest. He may have been cut off from proper human interaction for six years, but even he wasn't desperate enough to pay for company. He also doubted his gold would be good given his history.

Dora swung in front of the brothers to walk backwards, not letting go of Tristan. "I'm not going to steal him from you, love," she said seriously, looking at Julian. "I did want to give him a place to come sometimes though, at least." And selfishly she wanted him around, though not at Julian's expense. "You're welcome around too, you know. You might just have to share a bed or the big couch is all." She'd never let him know about her crappy housing situation before this, and she kind of hoped he wouldn't ever know. Either of them. Though Tristan would probably find out eventually.

She snorted at Julien. "You always provoking him," she said fondly.

"Monument Alley," she told him. "It's nice. Inside and Out moved there to capitalize on the newness when it started." Her aunt had had the shop for many many years before that in Diagon.

"You best be careful," she told her cousin sternly. "Don't make me have to hex my brother any more than I already want to. I've heard things, you know, about the crup thing. From people going through the shop." Not loud things, but if she'd heard of it then it could be bad.

She had to chuckle though. "Oh neither of you will ever need an escort and you know it," she told them. "You're both too pretty for your own goods." She'd crushed on both her second cousins at points in her life and she still found them both attractive. Not thst she'd really admit the former though Tristan knew. Legilimens who got in your head usually found out secrets after all, and in their situations she'd ended up letting him practice on her a lot.

It was funny how well Pandora knew him at times, even when he tried his best not to let the others see his fears. After all, why would Tristan want to go back to live in the house that would remind him of his father, with the mother whose mind had checked out long before either of them were of age, and the brother who'd run away and left him in the hands of Death Eaters? "Well, I suppose we can't let the room go to waste," he said, trying for casualness. "I wouldn't let anyone but Fluffy in there to keep it clean in case the others moved anything. He knows how Tristan likes it kept." And even if anyone else had thought to repurpose the room, Julian would never have allowed it.

He waved off the warning about the crup betting. "It's amusing, and it won't get caught. Can't keep the Knockturn out of the Alley even if they change the names."

He grinned at Pandora and ruffled Tristan's hair. "Definitely too pretty. No, I don't think any of us will be looking up escorts anytime soon. There are plenty of places to meet people these days, and plenty of lovely witches and wizards to take home. I hope you've been keeping yourself busy on that front, Dora," he added with a wink. "Oh, and speaking of which, we'll have to take this one to Finnigan's and get him a journal - much more efficient than owls for communicating. And Wingbeat too - I particularly like that one."

Tristan groaned just a little bit at the new name of Knockturn Alley. Really, someone needed to pay for all these puns. He wondered if there were people he could write to about it. Probably under a false name. He doubted anyone would take his given name seriously, but maybe if he made up a name, he could send in a letter or two about this strange naming convention. He'd also have to make a note if he didn't find this improved street to be monumentally better than what it was when it was Knockturn Alley, though part of him wasn't sure he wanted to explore it just yet.

He couldn't help a slight swelling feeling filling his chest at the mention of his room being kept the same. That had to be a good sign, right? He was sure he wasn't the same person he was now as he was the last time he used that room, but it hadn't been changed, hadn't been cleared out or remodeled and made into another room or locked to never be opened again. He wanted to make a joke just then about how he expected flowers on the bureau and a box of chocolates on the bed when he walked in, but the joke died in his throat. He was too damn emotional about his room being the same to make stupid jokes. Later, though, he'd have to hug Julian and thank him for keeping it for him, and thank Fluffy for it as well.

The fact that Pandora mentioned hexing her brother and that she'd heard things about the crup bettings didn't sit right with Tristan. However, all he said about it was, "Be careful, Jules, Okay?" If it were as bad as his imagination was currently leading him to believe, well, they didn't need another Travers in Azkaban. And, as much as he loved his brother, he didn't think Julian would last long in prison, even if his sentence would no doubt be far less sever than Tristan's own sentence.

"You may be too pretty to need an escort service, but your charming smile only goes so far," he said, bumping Julian's hip in a teasing gesture. He had doubts about his own looks, especially as he glanced to catch his reflection in a shop's window. Even in a nice, new robe and after a proper shower he thought he looked like shite. Definitely too skinny -- too gaunt -- his hair limp and skin so pale. He was a little surprised it didn't catch fire as he walked in the sun. He suspected, were it night, people might mistake him for a vampire. How apropos, given the day.

"What's Finnigan's?" he asked, looking back at his brother and cousin as they made it to the ice cream parlour. "And why would I need a journal?"

“Yeah I know, right?” Dora said as Tristan groaned. “I love plays on words but some of them are really bad.” At least there was an actual sort of background to this particular new alley. Even if it didn’t seem to include a lot ofpeople like herself and Tristan.

Dora gave Julian a gentle smile before swinging back around to tuck herself back next to Tristan. She squeezed his hand, looking up at him with a big smile. He, alongside her brother, had been her best friend growing up. And during the war sometimes it felt like he’d been her only friend. Surely he was the one who knew her better than almost anyone, she thought, especially given the number of times she’d let him poke around her mind with his Legilimency.

She did peer back at Julian with narrowed eyes. “Hyperion won’t be the only one I hex,” she told him warningly. “I can and will hex your arse up and down that alley and beyond, Jules. It’s stupid shite to be doing stuff like that.” Thank the gods he didn’t have any kind of record, but he could still get in gobs of trouble. “And don’t put it past me. Ya ken?” She shook a finger warningly at him, which should be comical given their height differences except for the fact that she was serious. Not that she really expected him to listen, but she would hex his arse if he upset Tristan and herself by getting his idiot self caught doing illegal things. Not that she didn’t sometimes sell glamours under the table or such, but those weren’t actually illegal.

Dora snorted and tossed her head. “Yeah, right, Jules. Ya ken me.” Her comfort levels increased the longer she was around her cousins, her speech taking on a comfortable cadence. She smiled as they slipped into the ice cream place. “I have someone I’m interested in right now and no I’m not telling you lot who yet, lest you pounce him and scare him off.” Chris still gave her butterflies, though she honestly had no clue where things were going with him.

“Finnigans is the pub of note,” she informed Tristan. “Run by Seamus, he was a Gryff a year below us. They give out these journals, where you can write stuff that people can see or ward it to individuals.” She fished hers out of the bag at her side, offering it to him to look at as they entered the shop. “Right handy, they are.”

"Come on, Dora, who doesn't like a good pun? Though really, they should have named it Sensu Alley like I recommended." He hadn't, but it still amused him.

Her rolled his eyes at his cousin and brother's concern. "Didn't anyone ever tell you two to respect your elders? It's just an occasional bet, nothing to get your knickers in a twist over. And speaking of knickers, yours were a little old, Trist, so I bought some more, as well as a couple other sets of robes. I'll have Fluffy over tonight with them so you'll have something else to wear tomorrow. Unless you plan on spending the day naked at Dora's."

He grinned lasciviously at the mention of someone. "What you really mean is that you're afraid I'll seduce him away from you, and while I agree I'm quite irresistible, I wouldn't do that to my darling little cousin." He reached over in an attempt to ruffle her hair as well. "So come on, do tell - what's he like?"

He nodded in agreement with Pandora's explanation. "I'll get you one, don't worry. They're the 'new owl', don't you know."

That small swelling in his chest constricted, sending another quick stab of pain through his sternum. His room had been kept the same, but, again, it sounded like Julian didn't want him around. Or maybe his mother didn't want him around. He couldn't blame either of them in the end. He couldn't even blame them, either. He was a convicted Death Eater. He'd been on the wrong side of the war. And he'd left them. He knew he had to deal with that, but he shoved it deep down for now, not wanting to even think about it.

Quietly, Tristan continued to listen to the pair of them, letting himself re-familiarise himself with their voices and banter. He had to admit part of him was curious about whoever it was that had Pandora's attention and possibly her affections, and he laughed a bit at the suggestion that Julian would seduce him away from her. He didn't know if it were possible or not, but the idea still amused him. In his mind, it played out like a comic book.

Taking the journal from Pandora, Tristan flipped through it, finding he had more questions than answers. Like why were they the new owls, and who decided people needed them anyway, and why a journal of all things? Instead of asking anything, he said, "There is way too much to catch up on," and laughed. "I guess your love life is a good place to start, huh? I don't have to stay around, lurking in your place if you're expecting a gentleman caller." He gave her a mischievous smile before wiping it off to order a simple single scoop of vanilla.

"Sensu Alley, yeah, that'd work for the escorts at least,"she retorted good naturedly.

"Can't say I didn't warn him," she muttered to herself, still giving Julian a dark look. "Naked day at Dora's," she repeated dryly, glancing up sidewise at Tristan before rolling her eyes at Julian's silliness.

She ducked her head away from Julian's hand, pretending to bite at it. "He's a former Hufflepuff, and he's very nice. And no you're not allowed to seduce him away, Jules, you naughty lad. He's very.. comfortable to be around, but not boring." She shrugged. She didn't know how to describe the butterflies and that he made her smile and feel almost normal, because she didn't know if either of them knew how off she could really be. Or that she hadn't had a proper real relationship since before the war.

She tucked her feet under her in the chair, automativ short person habit, but not before scooting it closer to Tristan. She couldn't help it. It had been so long. Too damn long. "You don't have to take yourself off anywhere. You'll never be unwelcome in my home." She said it stoutly and firmly. Even if her home were a tiny one room flat, he'd always be welcome. She took a moment to order her strange usual - dark cherry chocolate espresso with a few mint sprinkles.

While Julian ordered, she turned toward Tristan, pullinh a knee to her chest to do so. It made her appear a little smaller and younger. She tilted her head, catching his gaze firmly. "Tris." Her head tilted a little more, invitingly, and she left the intense memory of him coming out to them at the top of her mind, if he wanted to see it. "Love you, you know. Missed you terribly." She said it all softly, but she felt he should know. She'd not had anyone to tell her thst when she'd gotten out, and it was somehow very important to her that he be told, just as it had been terribly important to meet him, when no one had initially met her til Filius had appeared.

He grinned. "If he's a former Hufflepuff, then I probably know him. We're all very nice, don't you know," he teased.

A part of Julian was envious at how easy it seemed for Pandora to say how much she wanted Tristan in her home, yet another reason why Tristan should go there. Julian, well, was far better at being physically demonstrative than he was at saying words that meant something.

He turned to the server with his most charming smile and a wink, recognizing them from a night a couple of months ago. The woman blushed, then playfully slapped his shoulder when he gave his order in the most lascivious way possible. When he turned back to the others, he had the sense that he'd missed something important. He cleared his throat and made himself comfortable in the uncomfortable seat. "Would you two rather I leave you to your own devices?" He arched an eyebrow and tried to play it as a joke.

As Tristan listened to Pandora talk, however briefly, about the bloke she was interested in, it occurred to him that he could get more information from her without her having to say a word. However, given their past, he wasn't sure about using Legilimency on her. He'd done it often enough when they were younger, but they weren't who they were during the war, or so he assumed. Some things may not have changed, but he was sure others did. But one thing he didn't think would change would be her feelings on him digging around in her mind.

However, picking up on emotions and images at the forefront of someone's mind was not the same as digging around in that person's mind. Especially when he knew that person well enough to know when it was okay to do so. Tristan smiled at her words and the memory of when she'd seen him coming out into the atrium and over to her and his brother. Years later, it was still a strange thing to see how someone else saw him. "Love you, too," he said quietly, putting as much emotion behind the words as he could, reaching out to squeeze her hand again.

Julian's words grabbed his attention again, and he caught sight of the waitress as she retreated, caught her eyes as she glanced back at their table, at Julian specifically. He raised his brows at her, resisting a snort at what he found on the forefront of her mind. "Some things never change, do they," he said, looking back at his brother. "Like the fact that if you leave, i will steal a wand and curse your arse." He grinned, mostly teasing. He wouldn't steal a wand or curse his brother for leaving, but there was a good chance he'd hop the table and tackle him to the ground if he tried to leave.

"You probably do. Which is why you'll not be meeting him quite yet," she said somewhat primly, a teasing glint in her eyes. Besides, Chris was nice... to her. She knew everyone might not think quite the same. There was also the fact that both her cousins and her brother had never really liked the few boys she'd dated in school.

She and Tristan had had some private rules governing rifling around her mind since the war. She'd always been pretty open with it, when it wasn't forced, which was strange except that Tristan had already known most of her secrets. But so long as she invited him, silently or aloud, he was welcome. She always let him know when he wasn't, usually with a smack. She supposed it helped that often her gaze still fell to lips rather than eyes during general conversation.

She turned her hand over in his and held it again, knowing it was probably silly and not really caring what anyone thought. Tristan was probabl the only one who really understood a lot of the war and what she'd been through, but more than that he'd always been her close friend. Hell, they'd even been born the same day.

Dora glanced almost sharply at Julian, wishing she knew what was up therr right now. She flicked her wrist and her wand slipped into her hand, and she flipped it over, presenting the handle to Tristan. "Have at," she said dryly, amused. "Because boy not going anywhere, if we have to chain you to the table."

"You're such a tease," Julian said about the talk of Pandora's beau. He maturely stuck his tongue out at her.

He rolled his eyes at the two of them. "To hear the two of you talk, you'd think I'd just jumped away from the table and made a beeline for the door." He shook his head almost fondly. It wasn't that he wanted to leave, but for a moment there, he had felt like he was intruding on an intimate moment between the other two. "But speaking of wands, I suppose we'll have to get you a new one. As soon as possible, since you're out of practice a few years. That way you can use it for everything and anything, even if you don't have to - it's the best way to get used to magic again."

It was something their father had said to Julian after the first breakout, about how Azkaban had kept them from their magical conduit for so long that it had almost been like living Muggle, and that it took time and practice to get used to it again.

"Perhaps we could all go shopping Sunday or Monday, have a day together, buy a few robes and dresses, get a massage... We can go to Hardd Knut since your cuticles have seen better days, and you can use a treat as well, Dora darling."

Tristan took the offered handled of Pandora's wand, wrapping his fingers around it. It felt strange in his hand, partially because he hadn't held a wand in years, partially because it wasn't his wand, nor had he won it. Part of his brain, part of his body clicked as he held that wand, spun around in ways he hadn't felt since before he woke up in the Ministry. Instincts woke up and crawled through his body, down his arm, itching to test his abilities and limits, even with a wand that wasn't his. Although he lazily, briefly, pointed the wand at his brother, Tristan kept a tight control over himself and his mind, careful not to let it be more than a stick in his hand. He didn't know Pandora's wand, and the last thing he wanted to do was accidentally hurt his brother or anyone else in the ice cream parlour.

A few seconds later, he let the wand dropp down, still maintaining a tight grip on his control, before gently twirling it in his fingers to hand back to Pandora, handle first. "I think he's good. Besides," he looked at Julian, "I'd think a former bed mate," his eyes flicked to the serving girl, amusement in them, "would get you running out the door faster than the two of us, sitting her innocently, minding our own business.

"But, I do need a wand," he said. "I don't know what happened to mine after..." Did the Ministry keep spare wands from fights? Or did they destroy them? Either sounded entirely plausible to him, though he had no intention of making a formal inquiry about the location of his wand. He never realised how much he missed his wand until he began wondering about where it might have ended up. Part of him felt rather nostalgic, but he shook it off, adding, "I wouldn't mind a few robes, either. Not sure about that massage..." He'd never had one before, and he didn't know what one might entail, though his curiosity was a little piqued at the prospect. "But I suppose I won't rule it out until I know more about it."

Dora simply smirked at Julian. Once she knew more where she stood with things -- she did miss the ... rules and formalae of a pureblood courtship, she really did, she always knew where she stood there -- she would open up more about it. Until then, she would figure things out on her own, she supposed.

She wasn't sure how well her wand would work for him, if she was being honest, but despite its loyalty to her, she thought it would listen to her desires that he be able to use it for a little while, at least. It was an act of trust, though, giving one's wand over to someone, and that she didn't flinch doing it said a lot. She grinned at Julian. "Nah, just wanted to make sure you knew where you should keep your bum, despite pretty waitresses tempting you away." She teased him and winked.

She grimaced slightly in sympathy. "I still don't know where my old wand went either," she told Tristan wistfully. She still missed it; she'd grown up with that wand. It might have done some bad things for her, but it had done whatever she had asked. She accepted her ice cream quietly, leaning back in her chair a little as the brothers discussed a shopping trip. "The Hard Knutt does a good massage," she murmured.

Julian had watched Tristan taking hold of Pandora's wand with interest, and hadn't felt any threat when it was briefly pointed at him. No matter what had happened, no matter how much guilt and shame filled him at times, he had never feared his little brother, and never would.

"Ah, but the two of you seem to forget that there is little mystery left with former bedmates. It's the future ones who are far more enticing," he added with a wink. "And don't take a little flirting as anything other than it is - again, you're stuck with me until you've had your fill and send me off, or until tonight when I'll need a cuddle in bed, and the choice will be between you lot and Wallace."

He also wouldn't be able to stay past the next day as he not only wanted to check on his dog but his mother as well. He'd tried to tell her about Tristan's release the other day, but he didn't know how aware she had been and how much of the information she'd taken in. He kept trying, though, as she deserved to know what was happening with her youngest son.

He grinned at Pandora. "Gemma's quite talented with both her wand and her fingers, it's just a shame she doesn't shag blokes anymore. A terrible waste, I tell you." He chuckled and turned to Tristan to explain. "Gemma's the owner of the spa. She was a year older than me in school and had an interesting reputation. So, aside from a wand, robes, and perhaps a little pampering, what else shall we do? Money is no object, it's my treat." His eyes lit up with a thought. "A broom, we should get you a broom too!"

Tristan took his ice cream scoop with a thank you, picking up the spoon and taking a small bite. He closed his eyes as the vanilla flavour and cold exploded on his tongue. It may have been considered plain by main, but it was the sweetest, most amazing thing he'd tasted in years. As far as he was concerned, it was heaven. He let the bit of ice cream warm and melt on his tongue before swallowing it down, opening his eyes and spooning another small bite into his mouth.

As he slowly and carefully ate his ice cream, he listened to Julian talk about this spa place and its proprietor. He wasn't sure what to make of the bits of information he provided, so he focused briefly on his ice cream and briefly on what else Julian said. Then he focused on sucking on his spoon, his stomach already causing a bit of a struggle against the sweet treat.

"A broom, huh?" Could he even fly one at this point? Was he even allowed? Tristan wasn't sure. Maybe that was a question for his probation officer. "We can get me a broom," he said with a smile, taking another small bite of ice cream.

"Oh darling, so jaded," Panda said, pouting her lips at Julian in sympathy. "Some amount of familiarity makes it more fun." She had never understood his preference for one-night stands. She'd had a couple and they made her feel worse about herself rather than being fun and everything he seemed to find in it, even if it did feel briefly good. But she smiled at him, for she'd never minded being a hug toy every now and again if he needed it. Her cousins and her siblings were probably the only ones she had ever really slept with, in the sleeping-only sense.

She kept an eye on Tristan, a small smile playing on her lips, as she watched him taste his ice cream for the first time in so long. she could still remember doing that after Azkaban as well. She took a bite of her ice cream, mmming quietly to herself.

"A broom would be good for you, yes," she said, focussing briefly on her ice cream so that no one would be able to tell she was thinking about how her broom was still her school broom, a very good one at the time but with some age on it. She'd yet to be able to justify buying a new one since she'd started receiving a better income, and before that it had been impossible to get a new one. "We'll have to hit around bludgers sometime soon, then. I have some bludgers and bats. Julian never plays with me any more." She pouted at him again over her dish of ice cream.

If he didn't know better, Julian would have teased Pandora about being sweet and innocent. As it was, he simply grinned knowingly and accepted his dish from the server, a pumpkin brownie topped with hazelnut ice cream, slathered in thick chocolate fudge. Julian's taste in dessert was as decadent and hedonist as his other tastes.

His lips twisted in the smallest frown, only for a moment, as he saw how slowly Tristan ate. He would have to have a chat with the house elf Orville would give his brother, remind the creature that Tristan needed to eat and fill out more. If he had to, he'd send Fluffy over regularly with food and treats until his brother looked a little more like the young boy he remembered from six years earlier.

Julian poked his tongue out at Pandora before using his spoon to scoop up some of his brownie concoction. "Some of us are too pretty for quidditch injuries, love. Besides, it's so much more fun to watch from the sidelines."

To say the least, Julian wasn't a practical man. Logic and reason tended to be the last things that crossed his mind, and often in his own self-centredness, he missed things around him, even in the lives of those he loved. It sometimes took a good smack upside the head to remind him of something important that didn't directly affect him and his quest for pleasure. One actual practical thought, however, managed to make itself known in his mind.

"The two of you will let me know if there's anything you need at the flat, all right? Any furniture, food, amenities... say the word and it's yours."

Briefly, very briefly, Tristan wondered if Julian's comment meant he'd been cut off, if that was just another part of him not really being wanted around. His grandparents could have cut him off, or perhaps his great-grandfather. He wouldn't put it past Orville to do it to prove a point, even if part of him believed his mother wouldn't have wanted that or approved it. He may have been younger, but he was almost certain he had something set aside for him from his mother's side as well as his father's. However, as he took another bite of ice cream, doubt filtered into his mind, though he managed not to show it.

"I can't speak for Pandora, but, yeah, I'll let you know," he said with a bright smile. "Might need a pool or a hot tub. Maybe an over sized bathtub similar to the one with the prefects bath at Hogwarts." He laughed, clearly joking. Though, honestly, he did miss that tub with its many taps and bubbles. But he did not miss Moaning Myrtle popping in from time to time to spy on all the male prefects.

"What about you, Panda? Julian's handing out free money. What all would you like with it?" he asked, unable to keep a straight face.

She made a face at Julian. "Wimp," she teased comfortably. Her pain threshold, always high, had shot through the roof during the war, when she'd inadvertently begone disconnecting once she hit an injury bad enough to do anything significant.

"There's a hot tub on the roof," Dora recalled, turning toward Tristan to tell him. "You just have to not do magic on the roof unless you make sure no one is there. Muggles have access." Which of course let the cat out of the bag she lived in more muggle London now, but she didn't really care. "Flat is warded, though, within reason, and the workroom you can pretty much do anything. Both of you will get keyed into the wards." The first time she'd keyed anyone except Rich, given she was there at his generosity, into wards in years. "Of course, we can ward sometimes up there but we can't cut off access completely."

She pretended to ponder as she sucked idly on her spoon, savoring the dark cherry chocolate espresso mix that she rarely indulged in. "Oh I don't know, maybe we should get a glittery loo, Tris. What do you think?"

Julian shrugged and grinned at having been called a wimp. "Everywhere but in bed, love." A simple truth, and Julian had never felt the need to hide his more cowardly ways from his brother and cousins.

His eyes widened with pleasure when she talked about the hot tub. Now that sounded quite nice. "Oh, I can definitely make use of that. Such potential." He felt a little warm inside at the idea of being keyed into the wards, as it reminded him he was welcome. He'd have to work hard not to wear it out, though. They were better off without him around constantly cramping their style, anyway.

He raised an eyebrow at the 'glittery loo'. Not that he was opposed, but he couldn't wait to hear what Tristan's reaction would be. He turned to his brother to see, all the while taking another leisurely spoonful of his ice cream.

Tristan raised his brows, another bite paused halfway between the bowl and his mouth. "Well, that's interesting," he said as he put the spoon in his mouth before his ice cream decided to turn into warm cream, both about the hot tub and about living in a building occupied by Muggles. Why, he wondered, would anyone want a communal hot tub? It was one thing to have a hot tub you invited guests to use and another to have a hot tub on a roof that was entirely open to the building. How often was it even cleaned? He may not have been mysophobic, but that didn't mean he wanted to relax in someone else's filfth.

"So this means no sex in the hot tub, huh?" he teased, not at all sure how something like that would actually work. And, with luck, he'd never get an in person display from the other residents of Pandora's building. Or Julian. Especially Julian. He loved his brother, but there were some things he preferred not to see.

"As for the glittery loo," he began, taking a moment to suck on his spoon, "I guess that depends on how many there are in your flat. If it's just one... might depend on the shade of the glitter." He nodded, as if serious about the glitter. "I don't think I can go about my business in a pink glittery loo, for instance. But a dark blue..." He shrugged. "Perhaps."

Dora snorted. "Well, the thought hadn't crossed my mind, but it is kept clean, so the possibilities are endless, my darlings," she drawled before taking another spoonful of ice cream and eating it, grinning at the brothers around the spoon. She made sure the hot tub was clean, actually, with a subtle tap of the wand that no one ever need know about. "If you defile the tub, though, Julian, you clean it," she told him with a quick grin.

Dora giggled quietly into her bowl, feeling relaxed around these two like she did around so few people anymore. Tristan, especially; he'd seen her at her worst and had never stopped loving her. "Dark blue glitter. We can do that, Mr Ravenclaw," she teased him gently.

"You two are always trying to take away my fun," he teased back. All right, they did have reason to suspect him since the idea of sex in the hot tub was a natural one to have, but he could always see about getting something similar of the wizarding variety at the family home in London.

He smirked at the idea of the glittery room. "Well, at least it would make doing one's business entertaining."

He spotted the waitress again and waved her over. Once she was close enough, he whispered in her ear and allowed her to whisper into his a reply. He nodded and took out a small coin purse, pulling out a couple of galleons and handing them to her. She smiled, blushed, and whispered one more thing into his ear before leaving. "There's no hurry to leave, but when we do, the bill is paid. I hate having to wait for the cheque."
