This is Halloween!
Who: OPEN THREAD - Please tag as your characters arrive
What: Halloween
Where: Finnigan's
When: October 31st, 11am - Late
Rating: SFW?

Seeing as Wingbeat would be opening later, Finnigan's was presenting a more laid back option for Halloween this year. Dominic had magically dimmed all the rooms just a little, and they were lit with magical jack o'lanterns. A cauldron of Honeydukes' finest products waited by the door - charmed to let every customer take exactly one sweet and the bar was serving up themed cocktails, including Black Magic (Calvados, Creme de Mure, lemon juice and honey, warmed), Pumpkin Spiced Beer, Vampire Delight Martini and Departed Spirit Shot. Seamus had even cajoled Romeo into making colcannon and barmbrack for the occasion.

The roost was a little more elaborate, as usual, decorated to resemble a pumpkin field with pumpkin beanbags and cauldrons for apple-bobbing. There were apples strung up on strings from the ceiling, too, for games of snap apple.

The Den and The Corner looked much as they usually did, apart from the jack o'lanterns and a few spare 'cobwebs' in the corners. Everything was ready, and Seamus and Dominic were expecting a busy day.

"I do remember that he's mentioned you a few times, though. The others? I wasn't sure if they were two or one or three," he said with a faint smile. The others struck him as the types of society ladies he tended to avoid, though in England they either avoided him if they happened to know his blood-status, something the rest of the world didn't seem to care about, or fawned over him for his fame and success. "My mother has been the best thing in my world these last few years. I do not know vhat I vould haff done without her helping, even before Misha came along. "And it has been great, since coming here. Even though she is used to travel, Tsveta still is adjusting. I do need to find a nanny, eventually, but for now, I am very grateful that my mother is so good to me and them." He knew he was lucky, and he was happy to give her all the credit where credit was due, and more besides.

"I do miss Bulgaria some," he said with a nod. "It is beautiful in places. I think I vill be missing the snow this vinter, but England has its charms, and perhaps we vill be visiting Scotland so they can at least build a snow-thing or two. I think Tsveta would like that." Viktor was, perhaps, a sap when it came to his kids. He also had no problems getting cold and wet and covered in snow for Tsveta's fanciful ideas. "London isn't too different from some of the major cities I haff been in. But long term, it is a bit different to stay in so far, yes. I am still slowly getting to know the area."

Viktor grinned. "Ve did, a bit, though there were never enough brooms to go all around until I vas taken by the national team," he said easily. He wasn't ashamed of his roots, and if people had a problem with the fact he had grown up poor, that was their problem, not his. "Zorka, she is probably about your age? She is probably the better of the two of them as a player. She is a Chaser on the reserves on the Vrasta Vultures, and may be starting soon if one of the current Chasers does not get over his injury." There was pride in his voice as he spoke of his siblings and their accomplishments. He pulled himself back on topic to her words though, not wishing to bore anyone with his stories of home. "It vas always a lot of fun, to play vith them, though. Watching is fun, too, but I always prefered to be playing. My mother, she always say, I could not stay still enough at that age to just watch." His voice was humorous and self deprecating, and he grinned at her.

Bryony was honestly surprised - but pleased - that Rowan should talk about her specifically. Perhaps it was just because she'd moved out of the family home, or perhaps he'd been complaining... If that were the case, Viktor was, at least, too polite to mention it. The way Viktor talked about his family and his childhood seemed to set Bryony at ease. Even though she was used to talking to famous Quidditch stars (her brother and Marcus), she'd never had much to do with one she hadn't known before they became famous - she'd never imagined one would have anything to talk about her with, since she couldn't reveal how closely she followed the sport. But Viktor seemed perfectly willing to keep talking to her while his children played and Bryony felt almost relaxed - as relaxed as she ever really got, anyway.

"How old are Misha and Tsveta?" she asked, trying to pronounce the names the way he had. She wasn't much good at judging ages and wouldn't want to risk getting it wrong. "Scotland usually has snow," she agreed, thinking of Hogwarts and Hogsmeade both being covered in snow for most of her years there. "Not so much by the coast, but you could always go to Hogsmeade." She assumed that Viktor would remember the village from his trip for the Tournament. "Just check when the school's weekends are first. It gets very crowded."

Far from being bored by the details of his sisters, Bryony felt her smile grow to match his. Anyone who could speak with such pride and affection about his siblings was classed as a good person, as far as Bryony was concerned. It reminded her of Marcus, who'd always helped her to fly even when he shouldn't have. "My sisters used to get bored of watching, too," she admitted. "They preferred their own games." Ones which Bryony had never been invited to join - not that she would have wanted to leave her perch or abandon her view of those early Quidditch games. She made a small gesture to her sketch pad. "I suppose I was always more interested in sitting and watching than most people."

"Misha, he is just a bit over one year. Tsveta, she is seven, but already I think she is acting older." Viktor grinned over at his kids, proud regardless. "Yes. I think we might do a few days in Hogsmeade, when I know there is snow, so they can play properly. Every child should get to play in the snow near Christmas. Plus the village was lovely, though I know there's been some changes since I vas there." He nodded. "Good idea. I vill have to do that. Where would I find that out, do you know?"

He nodded again. "Nothing wrong vith watching," he told her. "I haff always done much of that myself, though never able to do anything vith the watching like you." He gestured at her sketchpad and smiled. "My mother, she vould tell you, I vas a very quiet child, alvays off on my own." Shy, or at least not nearly as social as many people. A more retiring soul. He'd learned how to be more outgoing but even now it wasn't always the easiest thing in the world.

"Seven, really?" Bryony would have guessed much younger - but that was perhaps because she was thinking of Viktor as being closer to her brother in age, and Rowan wasn't even married yet. "The WWN does weather reports in the mornings, covering most of the populated wizarding areas," she said, in answer to his question. "I'm sure they'd mention snow in Hogsmeade." She liked to have the radio on while she was working, even if it had started as a habit to cover her desire for her own wireless to use to listen to Quidditch matches.

Bryony smiled, thinking that her own mother would say much the same about her - though she wouldn't mean it as kindly. "I should let you get back to spending your day with your children," she said politely, feeling that she'd taken up rather more of his time than was proper. "But I've enjoyed meeting you very much."

"I haff to admit, I count on my fingers sometimes to make sure I have it right," Viktor said with a small laugh. "She grows so fast. I only vish her father were around to see her grow." Mikhail was missed often, sometimes more by Viktor than by Tsveta these days, as she grew and remembered what felt like a little less every year. "Good to know. I'll make sure to listen." He nodded his gratitude.

"And I, you," Viktor said, giving her a little half bow and a smile. "Feel free to come to practice sometime, I think I can be trusting you not to spy for someone else," he said, a faint note of teasing in his voice. "And the game box is always open as well."
