RP: Hanging Out
Who: Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger
What: Hanging out after work
Where: Harry and Hermione's flat
When: Monday evening
Rating: SFW

Ron hadn't visited Harry and Hermione's as often as usual lately, but he still had his own spot on the couch, which was where he was currently lounging and staring intently at his feet. He wiggled his big toe. Yep, that was definitely a hole in his sock. These socks had lived a long life, but it seemed like they had finally given up the ghost.

His mother had given him plenty of leftovers to bring with him, so that was his version of cooking dinner for his friends tonight. Somehow, despite it being years since Molly had cooked for a full house other than at Christmas, she still sometimes made far too much food. Ron suspected that sometimes she did it on purpose.

"Oi, Harry," he called, finally looking up from his feet. "Want a game of chess?" He grinned. "Reckon I can beat you before Hermione gets home."

Ron heard Hermione's voice and nearly tripped over his own two feet as he hurried from Hermione's bedroom where he had been sprawled out on the bed reading the last few issues of a comic that he had been saving up. Buttons, who had been using him as a resting spot, followed him out, tail raised high in annoyance.

"You're back. Finally. I was starting to think I'd lost you to McGonagall's charms." Ron took the seat next to Hermione on the sofa with his own artless flop, lifting one arm to wrap it around her shoulders. "Missed you."

Crookshanks had already taken the spot on the couch next to Hermione. At the sound of footsteps flying through the house he stood and jumped out of the way with a hiss just in time to keep from getting flattened.

"Never," she said moving so that she fit cozily under his arm. "Though Hagrid did try to convince me that I should stay if for no other reason than to lure you and Harry back." She reached for Ron's other hand so she could lace her fingers through his. "I think he misses us more." Hermione really wished that Harry and Ron had been able to make the trip with her. She knew she could have come home each night but she also knew that sometimes travel was more exhausting than sleeping in a strange bed.

Not for the first time, Ron really, really like the way that he and Hermione seemed to fit together. Smiling, he leant his face against the side of her head, her hair tickling his skin in its familiar way.

"Next time all three of us manage to get a day off at the same time, we'll go see him. It's been forever. McGonagall's biscuits are more edible, though."

Hermione had missed this. In fact, she hated every time she and Ron parted ways. There was something about just being close to him that was comforting. It was so comfortable in fact that she could easily close her eyes and drift away leaving him trapped there.

"He'd like that," she agreed. Searching her mind she tried to recall if she'd ever had anything cooked by McGonagall. "Just about anyone can make better biscuits than Hagrid," she conceded with a light chuckle. "Though I doubt there are many that are made with such honest intentions." She had come to the conclusion a long time ago that Hagrid's cooking was often geared more toward the giant in him. "Though Grawp seems to have taken an immense liking to them."

"Grawp will eat anything," Ron said. "And that's coming from me." He grinned, remembering how they had once found the giant chewing on a pair of leather shoes once. Where he'd found them, Ron really didn't want to know. But he's seemed happy and less smash-happy than normal, so that was all that mattered.

"We'll find time to see them both soon. Maybe even take Teddy up for the day. I'm… I'm thinking of taking some time off work, anyway." Saying that was hard and he could almost feel his ears turning red. "Should make it easier to coordinate. And you'll be able to check in on the house elves again."

Hermione's chuckling didn't last much longer as she sat up to turn to look at Ron. The light hearted comment about his eating habits rolled right off her back as she focused on his desire to take time off work. Of course she recalled his slacking in school and not wanting to focus on homework, but his job was different.

She began to run the catalog of events in her mind to see if there had been something she'd missed. For all his lack of academic attention in school, Hermione had never known Ron to simply step aside and take a break. He'd always had a strong ethic to complete whatever the task was that he personally chose to set his mind upon. "Surely there's something more you would want to do with time off than follow me around Hogwarts interviewing house elves." She decided not to question it directly but knew that he'd catch on to her curiousity.

"Merlin, if I spent all day every day with you, we'd drive each other batty. "Not," Ron added hastily, "that I don't love your company."

He leant his head against hers, a sigh rumbling through him. "Work's been a bit rough lately. It's been suggested that I might want to take a break. Dunno what I'll do if I'm not going into the office every day. But... I guess I'm starting to like the idea."

Hermione bit back the urge to say something about brains versus brawn even though the fact that they came from two entirely different places on most things was the glue that actually held them together. Instead she went for another angle. "I can alway empty Harry's comb and make sure I have a store of polyjuice for those times when you rather talk to him."

While the statement was said in a joking manner, there was a bit of truth to it. Harry's being an auror with Ron allowed him to understand more of this kind of stuff that she did. Not sure what exactly she ought to say about the suggestion that he take a break from the office she just asked, "What will you do with your time then?"

Ron grinned, trying to imagine Hermione as Harry. He had seen it once before, of course, but circumstances had been very different back then. "I prefer you just as you are, thanks."

Sobering, he frowned. "I dunno. That's the problem. Maybe I'll help George out at the shop. Christmas is coming up, busy time of year." His fingers toyed with the end of one of her curls. "And can I just say I'm sorry if I've been a bit of a prat lately?"

"That's good," she nodded. "I'd rather not take the risk now that I think about it. He might share his comb with Buttons from time to time." That was definitely an experience she didn't want to revisit.

Hermione didn't think he'd been a prat as of late. If anything she had attributed their missing one another to the hectic nature of both of their work schedules. "No, I'm sorry," she snuggled a little closer to him. "I've been so focused on finishing my legislative draft that I haven't been here for you. Obviously you have something going on and I've been a horrible girlfriend."

Ron scoffed. "I wouldn't put it past him."

He sighed deeply, giving her a squeeze around the shoulders. "You haven't been horrible. You really, really haven't. It's just that sometimes I think I'm not cut out to be an Auror, but at the same time I don't actually know how to do anything else."

Hermione tilted her head back slightly and leaned up to give Ron a small kiss on the cheek. "Why don't we take a weekend away?" she suggested not wanting to push him further into his thoughts at the moment. She knew that letting him dwell to long on negatives was never a good thing.

"You know, I like that idea," Ron said, brightening visibly. Hermione might have hit on just the thing he needed if he ever wanted to actually give her the ring that he had been carrying around for so long. And he did want to give it to her, he really, really did.

"Can I plan it? Whisk you away somewhere nice?"

Hermione gave Ron a curious glance at how quickly he perked up at the idea of planning a trip away. "As long as it doesn't include a pitch and the Cannons" she stated warily. It wasn't that she didn't like Quidditch, in fact she loved a good game even if she didn't have a favorite team.

He gave her a smacking kiss on the cheek. "No Quidditch," he promised. "No Quidditch at all."
