RP: Rome-ing Around
Who: Terry and Dennis

What: Pizza making, eating, and adorkableness

Where: Around Rome

When: Sunday 19th of October

Rating: SFW - May change for language

Dennis paced nervously around the flat wondering for the fifth time whether his outfit would be okay. He paused and looked in the mirror, and deciding (again) that the outfit was perfectly acceptable. Besides, he was definitely hoping after his two unplanned hookups that the date would end with Dennis making a friend. A very tall, handsome, Quidditch playing friend. Sighing, he shook his head, willing himself to snap out of it. He hadn't really been on a date - even one as platonic as this one would probably turn out as - with someone new since he'd broken up with Paden, and he wanted to make a good impression. Realistically he'd probably end up braining himself with some sort of pizza-making implement and drown in tomato sauce, but really those were bridges he'd burn when he got to them.

He was woken from his reverie by a knock at the door. Smoothing his hair one final time, he leapt across and opened the door, narrowly avoiding toppling over in the process. "Hi," he said with a bright smile that hopefully hid the slight tremor in his voice. "Nice to see you!"

Terry was looking forward to this outing. Fresh off another win, he was excited to spend the day in one of his favorite cities with pleasant company. At least, he hoped Dennis would turn out to be pleasant company, but he had a good feeling about it. Plus, there would be pizza at some point, and he'd decided to allow himself to enjoy a day of cheating on his self-imposed Quidditch season diet.

Dennis answered the door, and Terry took an instinctive step forward when it looked like the other man was going to topple over. Dennis managed to right himself, and Terry stepped back with a grin that, while didn't quite match the brightness of Dennis', was far from gloomy. "Hey. It's nice to see you too." He wasn't sure if he should go for a handshake, or if a hug was more appropriate to the situation, so decided to play it safe with the smile.

"So, I arranged for a Portkey to and from, and from what I understand transportation around Rome is included so we won't have to worry about that." He held up the silver key the Portkey office had supplied him with. "It's scheduled to leave in about five minutes; I wanted to give us a little padding in case one of us was running late."

Dennis was slightly dazzled by the smile for a moment and instinctually moved forward for a weird sort of half hug. He stepped back and grimaced. "Sorry about that, it seemed more friendly and less crushingly awkward in my head," he apologised with a sigh, wondering how exactly this man was making him even more imbecilic than usual. Other than the fact that he was tall, and handsome, and very, very hot.

He lifted his eyebrows at the key and blushed slightly. "Oh, oh I should have pitched in, I'm sorry!" He stood for a second and then shrugged, gesturing for Terry to enter the flat. "Sorry about that, maybe I can make it up to you and take you rock climbing or sky diving or something?" He smiled and looked at the key again. "Well we've got a couple of minutes I guess?"

Terry grinned, amused, but returned the half-hug without an ounce of self-consciousness. He was used to this sort of reaction from people, liked it most of the time, and thought it would fade soon enough once Dennis got to know him. He didn't think he was as impressive as people made him out to be; he knew he was actually a big dork and most people caught on to that soon enough.

"It's fine. Hugs are never frowned upon in my house," Terry said easily, and waved away the apology. "It's all included in the date; I just made the arrangements." He stepped into the flat, grin widening as Dennis mentioned making it up to him. "There's nothing to make up for, but I've always wanted to go sky diving. Rock climbing too, are you psychic?" He winked at Dennis. "Just a couple. Have you been to Rome before? You do a good bit of traveling with your job, don't you?"

Dennis returned the grin, and allowed himself to recieve a hug in return. He was glad that there wasn't any awkwardness on the other man's part, and the hug was definitely nice. Dennis could get used to being hugged again.

"Ha, don't say that too loud or my flatmate will never let go of you. Hugs are always welcome here as well," he said, with a slight smirk, feeling definitely at ease. "Well then we'll definitely have to go, won't we?" He grinned and nodded. "I've been to Rome before yeah," he said easily, before feeling his face fall slightly. "It wasn't with work though it was um... With my ex-boyfriend. Which, yes." He gulped down his water and looked around, not wanting to talk about Paden when the key began to wobble. "Shit time to go," he asked, grabbing onto the portkey.

A moment of shuddering dislocation later, and they were in Rome. "Well, that was interesting."

It was obvious that there were bad memories associated with Dennis' ex, but Terry didn't know him well enough to ask for details. He didn't want to pry, nor did he want to bring back those bad memories for their time together. Hopefully, Dennis and he would make some new memories with which to ease away the bad ones.

Luckily, he was saved from awkwardly saying as much when the Portkey activated. He grabbed it, hand covering Dennis' without thought, and soon the familiar hook behind his naval jolted him. Terry had never liked Portkeys much; in fact most forms of magical travel paled in comparison to flying, but there was no denying that Portkeys and Apparating were efficient. It took him a moment to adjust, but soon he was looking around with interest.

"The restaurant is supposed to be just around the corner. Shall we?"

Dennis grinned at Terry, then looked around for a moment. They were in an alley somewhere in Municipio I and Dennis was itching to go out and explore, especially with such an interesting companion. He turned and looked at Terry again and grinned, "That sounds like an absolutely brilliant plan," he said approvingly. "Also I didn't get to ask, but have you been to Rome before?"

They stepped out onto the Via dei Banchi Nuovi, which Dennis apparently recognised with a level of casual recollection that was particularly irksome considered he was forever losing his keys. "I'm actually really looking forward to this," he admitted, dodging around a group of tourists who seemed to visibly perk up at the sound of English. "I really need to stop asking questions though, I think it's a journo habit."

Terry looked around with interest, taking in the sights and noting all the interesting things to come and look at after their pizza making experience. "No, actually. I've been to Venice, but never made it to Rome so this will be a new experience." His voice was bright with excitement; Terry always liked trying new things, having adventures. He'd gotten into quite a lot of trouble as a kid, mostly with his sister. As always the thought of Imogene sent a pang of grief through him, but he pushed it away for the night.

"It should be fun. I've heard good things about Il Cavallo Alato. Their pizza is world-famous." They dodged the tourists, mostly by refusing to make eye contact. "I don't mind. Questions hardly ever bother me."

Dennis nodded thoughtfully for a moment, before grinning wolfishly. "I love Venice too," he admitted with a shy little smile. "I mean I know the flooding must get really boring for the locals but wading across the Piazza San Marco was kind of fun. I like Florence the best though. In Italy that is, Berlin is my favourite city in the world." He looked at his companion again and smiled, flashing his dimples. "I like new experiences too," he admitted blithely. "Keeps things interesting."

"Me too actually," Dennis agreed with a thoughtful nod. "Plus pizza making is always going to be awesome, no matter what, right?" He walked along the street, taking a moment to focus on looking for their destination before looking at Terry with a quirked eyebrow. He was actually really comfortable around the other man, which was stupidly making Dennis even more nervous. "That's very Ravenclaw-y of you. Do you want to play twent questions later?"

He stopped in front of Il Cavallo Alato and grinned at Terry, hoping all his grinning wasn't making him look like a serial killer, or a Hufflepuff on laughing gas. Without a word he led the way in, and stopped at the counter. "Hello," he called out in Italian. "We're here for some pizza making?"
