Pansy hadn't been pleased at first at 'winning' her own date, though she was happy to have 'won' Greg; it had at least kept him from anyone who might take advantage of him. But as the day rolled around, she found she was looking forward to it. It had been awhile since she'd been to the opera, and though she knew Greg wasn't a fan she didn't think he'd mind this particular show so much. It was supposed to be quite violent, which should counterbalance the singing well enough.

Wearing a resplendent set of dress robes in a sapphire blue, in deference to the dress code at the theatre, she was ready and waiting by the time Greg Apparated into her living room. He looked quite stunning in the dress robes she'd had tailored for him; passing them off as part of the date as to avoid hurting his pride. The blue was a darker shade than her own, but went well with his complexion.

"Darling, you look wonderful," she said, leaning in to give him a quick kiss to the cheek. "Our Portkey is set to leave in ten minutes, can I get you a drink before we go? I know you're not looking forward to the opera, but I promise the rest of the evening will be quite pleasant."

Greg was not excited about going to the opera. He'd never been before, but it didn't exactly sound like something he was going to enjoy. Besides, it would probably be loud and Greg had been avoiding loud places since his hearing had been 'fixed'. Maybe he didn't need to as much anymore, but it was a hard habit to break and given the choice he wouldn't have chosen to break it with opera.

He was, at least, happy with his date for the day. His mother hadn't been thrilled when he announced that Pansy had won him. She'd been hoping he would mix with someone outside his usual social circle. Greg couldn't feel guilty about disappointing her, though. Not when it had been entirely out of his control.

He'd been glad when Pansy had sent over robes for him to wear, because he would have had no idea what was appropriate otherwise. He apparated into her flat only a few minutes before they were due to leave, but she didn't seem annoyed that he had kept her waiting. "You look lovely." He knew from experience how sharp a look he'd get from Pansy if her forgot to compliment her, even if he did so without even really looking at her. "A drink would be great." He thought he might need it.

"Thank you, darling. We'll make quite the pair." She moved gracefully to the fully stocked bar, and poured him three fingers worth of Scotch. She handed it to him, then poured one for herself as well.

After a small sip she said, "I think you'll not mind the opera as much as you think; and I've had the theatre make a few adjustments to our box seats so the noise shouldn't bother you over much." It wasn't something they talked about, but she knew he didn't like loud places. She wanted him to be as comfortable as possible.

"The the city at night is quite lovely."

Greg raised an eyebrow in surprise, then nodded his gratitude. "I didn't know they'd do that." Between the two of them, they could probably have made some modifications - but it was easier to have the theatre do it. "It won't be too quiet for you?" From what he understood of opera he doubted it - wasn't it designed to be loud - but was aware this wasn't anything he really knew about.

The Scotch was good, better than what he'd been ordering for himself at the pub. He smiled as he took a gulp, never delicate with food or drink. "Where is it?" Beyond the name of his companion and the fact his date was opera, Greg hadn't taken much interest in the details of the date.

"They don't usually, but they made an exception." Pansy spoke with the confidence of a woman who was used to getting what she wanted, and this was no exception. "I'll be fine, darling, but you're very sweet to think of me."

She sighed fondly at Greg's question. Of course he hadn't paid attention to the details of the date. She wouldn't have expected any different. "Paris, where else? We'll have dinner at La Coupole after the show, and a midnight ride to the top of the Eiffel Tower."

A sudden thought ran across her mind, and she couldn't stop the soft laugh that escape. "Very romantic, so best not to mention it to your mother, I think."

"Ah." Pansy's tone, more than her words, explained that she'd probably bullied them into it. Well, Greg appreciated that she'd go to the trouble for him - although, knowing Pansy, she'd probably enjoyed getting her way enough to make it worth her time even without taking Greg into consideration. He wondered absently whether he couldn't get Pansy or Draco to do the same for a quidditch match one of these days. He missed watching quidditch, listening to it on the wireless wasn't the same and Greg tended to lose track of the action when he couldn't visualise it. Maybe for his birthday, since they'd probably have to get a box rather than normal seats.

Taking another drink, Greg nodded, though he didn't know what La Coupole was, beyond the fact it was obviously a restaurant. It didn't matter, they'd have food and that was good enough for him, plus he'd get to enjoy Pansy's company. His fingers tightened around his glass slightly when Pansy mentioned his mother. Pansy had already chased her off the idea of them as a couple once, Greg didn't understand (or like) the way she was still dropping hints about it. "She's bound to ask who won me. The raffle was her idea." Or at least, Greg being in the raffle had been her idea, not the whole raffle - but he trusted Pansy to know that already.

"Well, I meant not the details. I'm sure she already knows that I 'won' you," Pansy clarified. It had been the only downside to winning Greg; that it might give his mother ideas. Not that she didn't already have ideas, but Pansy was going to have to remind her all the reasons those ideas were bad ones. It wasn't that she had never given it, them, thought, but it would never work. She was far too high maintenance for Greg, and would run right over him. He deserved better than that. Pansy was nothing if not self-aware, or so she liked to tell herself.

She shook aside the thoughts, and glanced at the clock. "It's just about time. Are you ready?" She waited for him to finish his drink, then held out the Portkey for him to grab hold. A few moments later, they were deposited in the lobby of the Wizarding Opera House in Paris. There were other finely dressed patrons arriving as well, some Pansy recognized and nodded at as they made their way to their box seats.

Despite Pansy's hints, Greg had never thought his mother was serious about trying to set the two of them up. It was ridiculous - Pansy belonged with Draco, and even though that wasn't happening anymore didn't mean Greg was going to try to muscle in. It would be... wrong. Pansy was attractive, and Greg loved her as much as he was conscious of loving anyone, but he couldn't imagine being married to her or having children with her. He trusted his mother - perhaps quite wrongly - to understand that and to find him someone he could have that kind of future with, though he was in no rush for it to happen right away.

Portkeys always set Greg a little on edge - he didn't like not knowing the exact situation he would be appearing into, but the lobby wasn't too bad. The sophisticated nature of both the establishment and the patrons meant it wasn't too loud, unlike the time shortly after the war that he'd apparated into The Hog's Head in the middle of a bar brawl and immediately had to leave again due to the shouting that had seemed completely overwhelming. He took Pansy's arm as he'd been taught to do, nodding at the people she greeted even if he didn't recognise them himself. "Do we get snacks?" he asked, without much actual hope - snacks were for Quidditch matches and the like, not for opera. Still, Pansy was used to him asking 'stupid' questions.

Only Gregory Goyle would ask about snacks. "No, darling, we don't get snacks. They'll offer a few selections at intermission, so you won't starve." She should have thought to tell him to eat a light dinner before the opera. "We can get a drink though, they'll allow that in the box."

Since that sounded like a fine idea, she led them in the direction of the bar and let Greg order them both a drink, before they headed into the theater itself. The theater was beautiful, and Pansy always liked to take her time to enjoy the ambiance when she attended the opera. It had been built centuries ago, and though there had been renovations it was like stepping back into 17th century Wizarding culture. Greg stuck out like a sore thumb though, but she found it endearing rather than annoying. He was just too large to fit in the surroundings comfortably.

Their seats were directly center stage, and they had the entire box to themselves. She'd asked that the staff enlarge the seats so they weren't pressed together, thinking that Greg would appreciate all the extra space possible. There were programs on the seats, and a small table where they could place their drinks. The opera, Die Tragödie von Erik der Rot, was by a German composer from the 17th century, but Pansy thought it would be easy enough to follow.

"So, the premise of this opera is the Goblin Rebellion of 1612, and a brave Wizard, Erik the Red who opposed them," Pansy told Greg, wanting him to have an idea of the story before it started. "It's also the tragic romance of Erik and his wife Klara, separated by war and never reunited until just before death." She didn't think he'd be as interested in that, as in all the killing that went on in between. "Apparently Erik kills quite the number of goblins in the course of the show. It should be easy enough to follow, even though we both don't speak German."

Greg shrugged. "I'm not really hungry." He had vague memories of being taken to the theatre (wizarding, of course) as a child and there being ice cream, but he didn't need to eat. A drink was a good idea, though, so he dutifully fetched Pansy's and bought one for himself. When Pansy paused to look around the theatre, Greg stood awkwardly at her side waiting for her to be done so she could lead the way to their box. Once they got there, Greg settled immediately into the chair. It wasn't as comfortable as his couch at home, but it was better than his mother's dining chairs had been.

He snorted slightly as he turned the programme over in his hands, the front featuring a stylised picture of a broad-shouldered man in a red cloak. "He looks like a Gryffindor," she complained, disdain evident in his voice. He perked up a little when Pansy mentioned his death - perhaps the goblins would get him after all. Even if they didn't, it sounded better than Greg had expected. He peered over the railing of their box at the crowd below them and the red velvet curtains over the stage. "It sounds okay." There was no need to pretend for Pansy's sake that he was more excited than he was - a thought which prompted him to make a further disgusted face. "I'm glad I don't have to be here with someone else."
