"Well," Susan conceded lightly. "Perhaps it's less mysterious and broody, and more vaguely misanthropic and deeply uninterested in people's bullshit, but whatever it is it apparently makes you sexy to a swathe of people I know."
She grinned like a troll coming across a mysteriously abandoned picnic. "The ability to defend oneself when your opponent thinks you are small and defenceless is one of life's great joys," she replied before delicately arching one of her eyebrows. "It's interesting how often those two go together. I'd be happy to show you some of my moves, for self defence purposes of course." She snorted slightly and looked him up and down. "I don't know Adrian, your parents also imparted you with some excellent genes to work with."
"A promotion, yes," she said with a pretty little laugh. "Going up in the Auror office means you go from being on a mission, to leading missions, and from there to planning missions and having a greater scope to investigate things and go undercover, usually with an assigned partner - mine being Potter. From there promotions tend to lead to high level work run by the Minister, the Head of MLE, and the Auror Commander. From there if you're particularly ambitious, or are getting on we tend to end up in high level positions in the MLE and on the Wizengamot." She stopped, suddenly aware that she was rambling about something he probably didn't care about. "Sorry," she said wryly. She smiled at the genuine warmth that crossed the man's face at the mention of Alicia and the twins. "I love Isla, she's such a little spitfire, and Liam is the cutest little thing ever!"
"Well the 'lovely though immensely scary witch' is just happy to be having lunch with a wizard who hasn't either forgotten that she's a woman, or is all too aware of the fact and stares down her top while asking her about a mission," she replied, deeply amused at his admittedly dazzling smile.
