RP: Champagne, Oysters, and Chocolates
Who: Melinda Bobbin and Roger Davies – Open to people with a reason for joining
What: Their date
Where: POP, a Wizarding champagne and oyster bar
When: 18. October - evening
Rating: SFW, will update if the language used requires it

Maybe it was a little unfair, for Melinda to win her own date doing something she had been doing professionally for years. Granted, making chocolates wasn’t something she did on a daily basis, but it was part of her al a carte menu, and if there were anything left from that, it would be sold in her shop. Still, it had been fun; working with Monsieur Suchard was always amazing and having Roger there? Well, that was just an added bonus. She got the feeling that Roger had enjoyed seeing her being corrected in her techniques even while Suchard was giving him hands on instructions on how best to keep the blackcurrant ganache from melting the dark chocolate that was supposed to cover it. They had left with a box each of a variety of chocolates and other delicacies Suchard had found suitable or had simply wanted to give them, and Melinda had gotten some great inspiration for potential Halloween treats, though she would have to try them out before putting them on display.

At POP, they had been escorted to their table by the window and at the perfect distance from the band so they could still hear the music while carrying on a conversation. A big plate of ice with shucked oysters neatly arranged was brought in and the champagne was served.

“Mm, it’s been ages since I’ve had oysters,” Melinda hummed contently after the first one – with just a spritz of lemon – had gone down.

If winning a date with Melinda had been a stroke of luck, then going on a date with her to make chocolate had been like a dream come true. Roger had spent much of the lesson either weakly fending off the ever so slightly amorous advances of Pierre Suchard - the chocolatier who was instructing them on the delicate arts - and trying to hide his amusement as he watched the man gently correct Melinda's technique. Finally, after Roger promised that he'd let Pierre know if he ever wanted to learn the many uses for chocolate in the bedroom, they left with a box each stuffed with the chocolates they'd produced as well as various sundries that Pierre had decided to throw in for them.

POP was packed, but Melinda had managed to get them a table near the windows which was perfect for both conversation and people watching. "Really, Oliver hasn't taken you out for oysters and champagne? That's a bit of a failure on his part wouldn't you say," he teased, following suit and eating some oysters for himself.

“Mm, mm,” Melinda shook her head, as she ate another oyster; Oliver hadn’t taken her out for oysters and champagne, though as Roger continued, she could feel her cheeks heat up slightly at her reasons for not finding that a failure. Nonchalantly she quirked an eyebrow at him, and sipped from her champagne, because it was one thing to tell even Roger the truth behind it, and quite another thing when said truth all too easily could sound like bragging. “No need for it,” she grinned. “Not when,” she cleared her throat slightly, cutting herself off from saying that so far they’d only sat through one full meal without interruptions and that was Ben’s birthday dinner at the Indian restaurant, “he can make take-out on the sofa or the rooftop seem like a five-star dining experience.”

“So,” seeking to change the subject, Melinda smirked as her hand hovered over the available condiments, ooh’ing slightly when she spotted a vinegar-like liquid marked ‘Shallots’. That was worth a shot. “Catch me up on what’s going on with our favourite Chaser. And by that, I mean Marcus.”

Roger smirked and ate a few more oysters, and took a sip of his champagne. "Oh really," he asked, quirking his eyebrow back at her. It was always like this with Melinda - any protracted interaction between them inevitably ended in an eyebrow quirk-off. He stared at her at the moment, the hint of a smile playing on his lips. "So what you're saying to me is that Ollie hasn't bought you oysters and champagne because you two can't make it through one meal together without going at it like pygmy puffs," he guessed shrewdly.

He groaned slightly and thumped his head on the table. "I don't even know. I took him around Muggle London a few weeks ago and we had a lot of fun, and I have a couple of awesome photos that I've had developed the magical way which is fun. But... Nothing new on that front."
