Wayne nodded, knowing that the dark mark had probably cost more than some bare flesh. Lots of people died during the war. Lots of people did desperate things to keep it from happening to more people. It wasn't even necessarily just because of the war - it happened in the Muggle world, all the time.
Still, losing a brother...
"Sorry," he said, clearing his throat again. "About your brother."
So, she couldn't control it either. At least, in this, he wasn't alone.
"I have to stop," he told her. "I can't keep doing this." His heart wasn't in it, though. He didn't really want to. It - everything was working, for him.
Until it wasn't.
He'd lose Rhys, if he didn't get clean, and fast. He already knew he'd fail the drugs test - marijuana still appeared for 90 days - but that was what magic was for.
