Bryony and Open
With her mother at the door to the ballroom making sure to greet her guests, Bryony had been trying to stay away. Her dark blue robes were just a little too tight for comfortable breathing, and the heels she'd been loaned by Shauna made walking painful. She'd thought to grab a glass of water and sit at one of the benches until forced to open the dance with the other Capper women.
Allegra foiled her plans, however, walking straight across the dance floor and catching Bryony's elbow before she could sit down. "Go and ask mother what music she'd like to hear first," Allegra instructed, her nails digging in slightly to the too-plump curve of Bryony's elbow.
"Can't you-" But Allegra had already spun away, pushing a house-elf bearing drinks towards one of the early guests. Bryony sighed and, after smoothing her robes as best she could, walked the long way around to the door, keeping as close to the wall and as far from the guests as she could get away with. "Mot-
Iris cut her off with an obviously-fake cry of joy. "Here she is! I don't believe you've met my daughter, Bryony? My youngest, of course. It's her birthday, but I know I can trust you not to ask a lady her age."
