Who: Bill Weasley and Dennis Creevey
What: Discussing Dennis’s future work on cursebreaking assignments
Where: Bill’s office at Gringotts
When: 14 October, Tuesday afternoon
Rating: SFW; InComplete

Bill Weasley was a highly organized individual-- he wouldn’t be in his current position at Gringotts if he weren’t capable of keeping himself and many other cursebreakers on task at any given moment. However, he found himself somewhat flustered when he examined his schedule and discovered his meeting with Dennis Creevey was set to begin in just a few minutes. Bill possessed a great distaste for dealing with the media and reporters, but Gringotts had already approved Creevey’s travel with some of the international assignments, so the decision was out of Bill’s hands. He was partially relieved with that-- his first instinct would have been to deny the request for fear of an information leak, but he was glad to not be responsible for disappointing a member of the Creevey family. Bill decidedly pushed all thoughts of wartime casualties from his mind as he ducked into his desk; he’d feel much more prepared for his meeting with Dennis if he had the young man’s latest column fresh in his mind.

Dennis walked quickly through the labyrinthine corridors of the bank, following the instructions given to him by both Rose and one of the less surly Goblins in the entrance hall. Eventually, after passing through a number of equally dark, torchlit corridors he came across the one belonging to Bill. He paused for a second to take off his jacket, which seemed vastly unnecessary in the coolness of the underground halls. He took a moment to straighten up and put on his very best crooked smile before knocking on the door frame.

“Good afternoon, Mr. Weasley,” he called with a polite bob of his head. “I’m here to meet with you about being attached on more missions?”

Bill jumped at the sound of the knock at his door-- Creevey was apparently a punctual person. “Please, come in and have a seat, Mr. Creevy,” Bill greeted, gesturing toward the empty chair on the opposite side of his desk. He’d meant to put away Dennis’s article before meeting with the other man, but he’d been caught off guard. Now he felt a bit like a boy with his hand caught in the proverbial cookie jar.

“I was just enjoying your latest column regarding your stay in Indonesia. It’s an exciting place to be, isn’t it?” he asked. Bill fondly remembered the time of his life when he’d lived abroad. He’d spent a majority of his time in Egypt, there were always new tombs and crypts being discovered, but he’d certainly taken advantage of the opportunity to travel elsewhere across the globe on other assignments. He knew that Creevey was probably more interested in getting down to business, but Bill preferred to take a few moments to chat with the younger man. The time would give him a better sense of Dennis’s character and personality, something he’d like to get a greater grasp on before he accompanied another cursebreaking team in the field.

Dennis smiled slightly at the way the older man jumped, before taking a moment to appreciate his looks. He was rather forcibly reminded of a conversation he’d overheard between two young Cursebreakers in Indonesia speculating on Mr. Weasley’s prowess in the bedroom. Seeing him in person, Dennis had to privately agree that they would probably be pretty spectacular. Shaking such thoughts from his mind, he sat down at the proffered seat and smiled. “Good afternoon, sir,” he said, noting with a slight quirk of amusement that his piece of Indonesia was open and on the desk. Nothing quite sharpened the mind like someone getting straight to the point.

“Thank you,” he said with a polite smile as he wondered if any criticism would be thrown his way. “I have to say I did quite enjoy Indonesia the second time around. Being their for work rather than on holiday allowed me to see it in a very different way.” He tilted his head slightly, wondering if Bill was trying to get a measure of him. If so, he’d wait for the other man to bring up their reason for being here. “Plus seeing it from the perspective of the Cursebreakers was quite fascinating. They really don’t get enough credit for helping out local populations while they’re on mission. Everyone seems to focus on the treasure and the danger.” He stopped and considered for a moment before making eye contact. “I imagine things would be slightly different in each country however. Egypt would probably provide a different working environment than West Java.”

Bill couldn’t entirely tell if Dennis was being genuine with his response, or if he was simply trying to tell Bill what he thought he would like to hear. Had Fleur been sitting in on the meeting, she would have been able to read the younger man. “So your entire experience with the team from Gringotts was positive?” he asked. Bill folded his hands on top of his desk in front of him. “Your answer will have no effect on your participation in future ventures, Mr. Creevey, I’d just like to hear your honest opinion.” Bill offered him a small smile, hoping the gesture was comforting and encouraging to the other man.

Dennis smiled and gave a Gallic shrug. "Sure," he said with a slight nod. "I mean I did get knocked off a cliff by a stampeding animagus," he said with a stupendous lack of concern. "But no one three times my size fell down a hill and landed on top of me as they did with Rose, and I didn't get cursed by a demonic rune like Eddie did, so I figured I did okay?" He scratched his chin for a moment and gave the man a half smile. "I can't say the Goblins are particularly nice to me - probably something to do with the fact that I was jumped by one a couple of weeks ago in a case of mistaken identity but otherwise I found everything good."

He leant back in his chair and tilted his head and smiled. "I know Gringotts tends to be wary of journalists - with good reason I'm sure - but I'm not here to bust anyone's heads or print anything sensationalist. I'm here because I want to do good quality investigative journalism about a group of interesting people doing interesting things in interesting places, and then translate that back into a narrative that talks about the sociocultural issues facing our society in the twenty-first century."

"They're not particularly nice to anybody, mate. Not even the people who bring them their treasure," Bill replied easily. He still wasn't entirely comfortable with the situation that Gringotts was in with the media-- people were always suspicious of the bank, it was a fact of life-- but perhaps Creevey's project would prove useful.

"I appreciate your honesty, Mr. Creevey. Even if some parts of it might be a bit embellished," he said with a nod. It was just important for Bill, as well as the cursebreakers who would be working with Dennis Creevey, to keep things in perspective. He knew that Creevey's end goal wasn't to write puff pieces for Gringotts, and Bill wouldn't ask anybody to do that. He just needed to be sure that the bank was ready to supply the sort of transparency that would be required on projects with journalist companions. Bill's boss wanted Gringotts to put its best foot forward, just like Creevey's boss wanted to sell more papers.

"Did you feel unsafe at any point during your recent trip?" Bill asked. Ensuring Creevey's safety would become a top priority, but Bill doubted he'd even be here now if the man himself did not feel equipped to join another mission. Still, it was a question that needed to be asked. "I can tell you right now that there are a few projects you will not be able to access due to various reasons. Is that going to be a problem for you?"

Dennis laughed and nodded ruefully. "Well I guess it's not that hard to understand, the history of Goblins and Wizards being what it is."

He quirked an eyebrow and grinned. "Did that not get put in the report then," he asked, still grinning. "A bloke decided to profit on the whole Babi ngepet myth and turned himself into a boar. We helped some of the locals stop him and he knocked me off a cliff. Luckily into a lake so you know, no real damage done." He paused and cocked his head for a moment wondering how abreast the man was with all the various incidents that occurred on the various away teams. "As for Rose and Eddie, well the mission before this one one of her colleagues fell on her so she was off for a couple of weeks, and Eddie got hit by a band rune or some such." He nodded his head emphatically. "I don't embellish, Mr. Weasley. Truth can stand by itself."

"Not particularly," he replied. "Perhaps if I had been alone without people to help then yes, but surrounded by the team I felt fine." He paused and considered for a moment before shrugging. "I'm fine with not being involved in any of the secret or slightly shady missions, and I won't follow every mission. I have stories lined up with a some Aurors, and a couple island hopping around the Caribbean so I think it'll be fine?"
