Still, Still, Still
"See that, Dora?" Ted adjusted his hold on the baby, picking her up a little higher so she could see the ornament that had her name on it. "That's your name!"
Dora wasn't all that interested in her name yet, but her eyes fixed wide and attentive on the ornament just the same. It was shiny, and the lights on the tree caught it in a rather interesting way. She wasn't big enough to grab at it yet, but she was remarkably good at staring.
"Glass of wine?" Andromeda called from the kitchen.
"I'd like one, but Dora says she only drinks Dutch gin!" Ted called back.
Andromeda laughed as she poured. "I don't suppose she looks sleepy yet?"
"Not quite." Ted took another look at the baby just to make sure. She was showing only the very earliest signs of fading here on her first Christmas Eve. "Apparently the little girl who had to make sure she got here in time for Christmas is determined to stay awake to see it come in."
When Andromeda came into the living room, she gave her husband a glass of cabernet and a light kiss. "I can't blame her," she admitted with a smile. Her arm slipped around Ted's back, and she dropped a very light kiss on the baby's forehead. "I'm rather excited myself."
