The return to his human body this go around was different than what Pepper had experienced previously. He hadn't been a werewolf for long, and the transformations to and from the wolf had, thus far, been overwhelming and excruciating. Coming back to skin, naked on the cold floor of the cell he occupied in the Ministry facilities, Pepper fell sideways in an exhausted heap, shaking and shivering as his body struggled to properly relocate his vital organs. He was always so acutely aware of the change to the wolf--dread playing a big role--but by the time the sun rose and it was time to return to normal, his body was so numbed by the night and the lost of self-awareness that it might be an hour before he was even rightly in his senses again. Not this morning. He'd anticipated the return like a smell on the wind, knew it was coming. His wolf-form had shuddered, rocked, and he had lid down, ears pinned back, paws flat to the floor. That moment had reminded Pepper of mornings after an all-night binge, knowing that if you could just throw up, you'd feel so much better. By the time he was back to rights he felt like he'd been stretched in every possible direction; a body-wide case of pins and needles. He blinked at the cement box surrounding him, still reeling, still in near-disbelief that he and Jon and Damocles had succeeded, that he had been right about the aconite, that they had actually found a means to... to harness--to humanize--the wolf. "Jesus Christ," Pepper wheezed, attempting with difficulty to push himself up and off the floor. |
