The petition requesting to override the December's ministerial decree allowing Aurors the use of Unforgivables reached a new stage today as debates began at the Wizengamot. Clear rifts were quickly visible among elders. Griselda Marchbanks, who sponsored the petition, led the group pushing to stop Aurors from using Unforgiveables. "This is nonsense, we cannot overturn a ministerial decree," said Clark Harris, who led a group of elders opposing the petition from a procedural standpoint. The petition was also opposed by a third group, formed around Ian Cornfield, who said: "Aurors should be able to defend themselves from the dark wizards they're fighting. They need the permission and ability to use the Unforgiveables!" Debates will continue as the Wizengamot studies the petition in detail and argues the case of each Unforgiveable curse. A separate vote will be cast for each one, though if today's debate is any indication, it might take some time before it comes to votes. The seven remaining werewolves captured by the DMLE at the end of February were sentenced to life in Azkaban this weekend on charges of murder and attempted murder. All members of Greyback's pack, they were involved in the attack on the persons of librarian Caoimhe Sullivan and Remus Lupin in front of the Brookstanton Memorial Library, in the murder of Madeline Lupin, as well as various attacks on full moons. |
