The DMLE hit big last night, capturing nine werewolves as the result of an investigation by Hitwizard Sturgis Podmore, in charge of the werewolves case. These werewolves were highly wanted criminals affiliated to Fenrir Greyback, who have since confessed to participating in various attacks, including the one in front of the Brookstanton Memorial Library and the one on Madeline Lupin last month. Their apprehension was difficult and the violent altercation left Hitwizard Podmore severely injured and fighting for his life at St Mungo's. This situation dampened any triumphant feelings at the DMLE, where Aurors and Hitwizards now prepare themselves for a new full moon cycle without the Head of werewolves investigations. One person was able to flee the scene when DMLE backup came to Hitwizard Podmore's help. We do not know, at the moment, if it was another werewolf. Anyone with information on this person's identity is requested to contact the DMLE. The full moon is upon us and, following through on last month's initiative, the Wizengamot passed today a permanent curfew for the nights of the full moon cycle. This new legislation will require all citizens to stay indoors, in a safe environment, after sundown. Recognising that not everyone can afford good safe wards on their homes, the Ministry is setting up Ministry-sanctioned safe locations. Businesses will need a special permit from the Ministry to stay open after dark on full moon nights, to ensure that their wards are of a high enough level to qualify as a 'safe place.' This new curfew will be enforced during this weekend's full moon cycle. Anyone found out after curfew will be arrested for the first offense. A fine will be added, on top of the arrest, for any future offense. There's no time to rest for the Wizengamot's members who, after passing the curfew bill, will now study a new petition requesting to override the Minister's decision to allow Aurors the use of Unforgivables. This petition comes from within the Ministry, as it was presented by Douglas Cornfoot, barrister in the International Magical Office of Law. Minister Bagnold declined to comment on the initiative. The Muggles' Winter Olympics came to an end yesterday in Lake Placid, upstate New York, in the United States of America. Controversy is still raging between the American and Russian Ministries for Magic, the Russians accusing the Americans of using magic to influence a hockey match, a Muggle game played on ice with sticks and a small disk. The American victory was a huge surprise, the Muggle American media labelling it Miracle On Ice. "It's no miracle, it's cheating!" declares the Russian ambassador, who claims that he has proof that magic was used to influence the results in favour of the American team. The ambassador has refused to divulge any details regarding said proof. |
