Terry pretended to pout, but it was clear he wasn't upset. Ben would catch on in his own time, Terry wasn't worried about that. Their kid was clearly very bright, and right on target according to the books he'd read, so soon enough he'd be talking up a storm.
"I'm starting to think he's going to skip the easy stuff, and move right into complex sentences with impeccable grammar," he joked. "From 'dog' to Shakespeare overnight."
They watched the gorillas for a few minutes longer, then continued on their way. Terry wanted to get through a good amount of the zoo before it was time for lunch, because Ben was only a year old and his attention span wasn't terribly long. The penguins were extremely fun, and Terry lifted Ben out of the pram so he could have a better view as the penguins slid down the ice and into the water, before popping up again elegantly.
"Butterflies next," Terry decided after awhile. He placed Ben back in the pram, grateful that his kid was so easy going, and then reached out to take Penny's hand, just to offer a little comfort without words.
