Who: Andromeda and Ted
What: a night in.
When: Saturday night.
Where: their home.
Warnings: TBA
Status: Incomplete

For all that she was dreading Nymphadora leaving for Hogwarts in September, Andromeda had to admit that there were benefits to her daughter being old enough to leave the house. One particular benefit was that she often spent time at her friends' houses, when her friends were not over here at their house, and there had been quite a few times this summer when the house had been quiet. Many of them were during the day, which did not give Andromeda any quiet time with Ted, considering they were both working, but the occasional evening cropped up as well. Tonight, Nymphadora was spending the night away at a friend's house, and Andromeda was looking forward to having her husband all to herself.

She was tired from work, so although she'd toyed with the idea of going out dancing, she had scrapped that idea before stepping out of the Floo. Thankfully, they'd made no definite plans, largely because Andromeda's work especially could run late when there was a critical magical accident that took a while to clear up. Thankfully, although it had been difficult, she was home at a reasonable enough hour.

Stepping out of the Floo, she immediately traded in her work shoes for slippers that she kept by the fireplace, and ran her hands through her hair with a contented sigh. "Ted? Are you home, love?"

Ted's job almost never ran late, something that he was happy for, because then he could be home in time to start dinner if there were people to make dinner for. Today, however, he seemed to be rather on his own for a little bit after work. While he wasn't nearly as fond of quiet as other parents seemed to be, Ted at least could say that he hadn't actually gotten emotional the first time his daughter went to stay the night somewhere else.

Of course, they had planned to do something tonight, so his plans had mostly included changing into something more suited to a night out than a day at work. Once that was done, he made something simple, placing it in the fridge just in case they didn't actually decide to eat in. He just wanted to be sure that everything was ready for every eventuality.

Hearing someone come through the Floo, Ted straightened up. "Kitchen," he called back. "Have we decided if we are going out or staying in?"

Slippers were truly the best. Keeping them by the Floo guaranteed that as soon as Andromeda stepped into the house, she could also step into something much softer and more comforting than the shoes she wore to work, and she was already smiling. Her smile widened even more when she heard Ted's voice, coming from the kitchen, and moved in there to find him, sliding a bit on the smooth tile to get closer to her husband. She curled one hand in his shirt and kissed him, smiling against his mouth.

"I was leaning towards staying in," she said. "Having a little wine, maybe watching a movie or breaking out a board game? But you could easily change my mind, if you wanted." She'd have to change clothes, but he looked like he'd already dressed for it, and she really didn't mind the idea of seeing him dancing in those clothes.

Ted couldn't help the fond smile that appeared on his face when he saw Andromeda's slippers. They were perhaps his favourite article of clothing that she wore. Smiling himself, he returned the kiss, his arms moving to wrap around her waist. No matter what happened during the day, Ted was always much happier the moment his wife stepped into their home. He could never really explain it, but he almost always knew if she was in the house or not.

"Staying in, hrm?" It sounded nice. Wine and a board game. He liked wine...and board games. Together they sounded even more amazing. "I could," he agreed. "Only now I am caught up in the sheer brilliance of wine with board games." He chuckled a little at his own words. He sounded rather humourous. Yes, he'd dressed for going out, but at the same time, he was just as happy to stay in. "I made something simple just in case anyway."

Andromeda started to laugh, and her arms went around his neck, fingertips brushing the hair at the base of his skull. He was so like a child in some ways, energetic and easily entertained. Sometimes she despaired of that, but most of the time it was one of her favorite things about him. It made her happier, more relaxed as soon as she was in his presence.

"I'll let you pick the board game that would go best with wine, then," she said, kissing him again. "How does that work, do you think? There's no etiquette or gourmet guide for us to consult on this matter." Her eyes lit at the mention of dinner, realizing that she was hungry. "Perhaps dinner first while we sort that out."

As much as Ted enjoyed his own general exuberance, he often found himself quite thankful that Andromeda was there to balance it out a little. "You know," he started, pausing for a brief moment afterward before continuing with, "I don't know." He laughed again, shaking his head slightly. "I don't think most people play boardgames and look at gourmet guides, hoping to get guidance on their wine choices for the evening." It was an amusing prospect, however.

"Dinner is certainly a good place to start," he agreed, letting himself pull away after a moment to go to the fridge and get their food. Once he had it, he set the salad down first (one must always have vegetables after all) and then the rest of it. It was only pasta and sauce, but it was better than nothing, he supposed. He cast a charm to reheat the food and looked at Andromeda. "Bread or no?"

Andromeda didn't even look at gourmet guides to pick wines for her food, though she did have a special love for gourmet and housekeeping magazines. The things were basically encouragement to spend ridiculous amounts of money on items she really didn't need, but in her hands, that wasn't a problem. She was inspired by the recipes sometimes, and by ideas for organizing the house, but it didn't result in very large changes, generally.

Tonight she was not in the mood to cook anything, inspired by a gourmet magazine or no, so she was very grateful for Ted having taken the initiative on that. She placed a kiss on his cheek before releasing him to help set the table, plates and silverware arranging themselves with waves of her wand. "Yes, please," she said, smiling at him before moving to get the wine. She wasn't planning to drink a lot - probably a glass with dinner and another with the board game - but she did very much enjoy the wine. As she settled in, pouring glasses for them both, she smiled at him. "Have I mentioned lately that I have the best husband in the world?"

When she agreed to the bread, he grabbed a couple pieces before bringing them over to the table. It had been a while, admittedly, since they had gone through dinner without an excited girl rambling about her day and all the things she'd done. Ted missed that a little, but at the same time, it would mean he'd eat before the food was luke warm instead of hot.

Sitting down, Ted gave Andromeda a small smile. "You might have mentioned it, but I am always glad to hear it as many times as you might like to say so." Even if he wasn't the most egotistical person, he just liked it when Andromeda said things like that. It was more for the fact that it meant being reminded (though, he didn't really need a vocal reminder) that he was married to a woman he loved. That was the best part of those comments. "And you are the best, monkey slipper wearing wife any man could ever want. You let me play board games and drink wine at the same time."

"You only love me for my slippers," Andromeda teased. She couldn't blame him for that, not really. Her slippers were amazing. It occurred to her that at some point, she ought to surprise him by wearing her slippers and nothing else. Perhaps for his birthday, which was at the end of the month.

Lifting her glass for a toast, she smiled at him. "To wine and board games," she said. Which was really a rather accurate metaphor for their marriage, when she thought about it.

"Clearly." Only that wasn't true. "It's been a recent development. As before you did not have your slippers, which was truly unfortunate." Ted couldn't help but laugh a little at himself and the conversation they were having. There were so many reasons that he loved Andromeda that he wasn't even sure he could accurately explain them all.

As she raised her glass, he followed suit, lightly tapping their glasses together. "To wine and boardgames." He took a small sip of his wine before starting to put food on his plate.
