Songs: Valentine's Day
It's Mission Impossible time! *cues theme music* Okay, so here's something a little bit different...your mission this time, should you choose to accept it, is to write 500 words to any (or all) of these songs...in one week! These songs will go down February 15th, so yeah, it's Holiday Special time. *beams* And once again, variety comes into play....
Cake - "Love You Madly" C'mon, it's Cake. Upbeat, catchy, amusing as hell. For all your relationship needs!
Cake - "Love You Madly"
I don't want to wonder If this is a blunder I don't want to worry whether We're gonna stay together 'Till we die
I don't want to jump in Unless this music's thumping All the dishes rattle in the cupboards When the elephants arrive
I want to love you madly I want to love you now I want to love you madly, way I want to love you, love you Love you madly
I don't want to fake it I just want to make it The ornaments look pretty But they're pulling down the branches Of the tree
I don't want to think about it I don't want to talk about it When I kiss your lips I want to sink down to the bottom Of the sea
I want to love you madly I want to love you now, yeah I want to love you madly, way I want to love you, love you Love you madly
I don't want to hold back I don't want to slip down I don't want to think back to the one thing that I know I Should have done
I don't want to doubt you Know everything about you I don't want to sit across the table from you Wishing I could run
I want to love you madly I want to love you now I want to love you madly, way I want to love you, love you Love you madly
Elliott Smith - "Thirteen" Woo-hoo, an excuse to write school uniforms! Uh, I mean...oh, never mind, it's an excuse to write school uniforms. *grins* It's also one of the most utterly perfect "those crazy kids in love" songs ever written (although I understand this version is a cover). Nostalgic, pretty, everything it should be. And also it's Elliott Smith. *hearts*
Elliott Smith - "Thirteen"
Won't you let me walk you home from school? Won't you let me meet you at the pool? Maybe Friday I can Get tickets for the dance And I'll take you
Won't you tell your dad to get off my back? Tell him what we said about "Paint It Black" Rock and roll is here to stay Come inside now, it's ok And I'll shake you
Won't you tell me what you're thinking of? Would you be an outlaw for my love? If it's so then let me know If it's no then I can go And I won't make you
Onelinedrawing - "Jul00" Again with the mad perfection, the romance, the stunning prettiness...but this is the twenty-something version. (It's "Jul00" because it's the July song. Er. Yeah, there's a story there with this CD, but I'm too sleepy to tell it.)
Onelinedrawing - "Jul00"
"Katie," I said, "I think I'm gonna marry you." And she said, "Are you asking me, or are you telling me?" "I'm asking you." "Well go ahead and ask me, then." And so I did, and she accepted, and we went out into our days.
I won't break, I will wait, I won't hide, I will stay, I'll never run away When I'm sick I will try, when you're scared I will smile, I'll never run away I'll never run away.
Congratulations, you've blown us all away Forget the waiting, no one needs those games I'll celebrate it, so simple and so plain Congratulations, now never run away.
Trembling Blue Stars - "The Rhythm of Your Breathing" Okay, fine, so slow, wistful and pretty is something of a favorite of mine. Trembling Blue Stars have really made lost loves and the agony of breakup work for them, but this happens to be one of their still-in-love songs. Just, y'know, with the typical problems of any couple, which I suppose makes this your "dose of realism" song or something. Still romantic, though!
Trembling Blue Stars - "The Rhythm of Your Breathing"
holding you in the morning listening to the rhythm of your breathing feeling such a need you're everything to me
don't worry what people say let them gossip, let them guess no one should feel guilty for finding happiness (happiness, ooo...)
we're so fragile at times now there's no kissing goodnight back to back, lying awake instead of putting things right
when silence falls between us all we do is miss each other when the touch of lightness leaves us all we feel's a lack of shelter (a lack of shelter, ooo...)
but you're not going to lose me I'm not going anywhere this is not the beginning of the end
feeling your fingers on me skin touching skin if a defense is what we need look no further than what we're feeling
when I'm thinking of you I hope that you can feel it don't worry what people say let them guess, let them gossip (let them gossip, ooo...)
but you're not going to lose me I'm not going anywhere this is not the beginning of the end
holding you in the morning listening to the rhythm of your breathing
The Magnetic Fields - "With Whom To Dance?" Ahhhh, Magnetic Fields, how I love your mad, mad ways. You have no idea how hard it was to pick just one of their songs for this post--especially if you weren't aware that they actually have a triple-disc set called 69 Love Songs, and yes, there really are sixty-nine of them. This is the "given up on love" song.
The Magnetic Fields - "With Whom To Dance?"
Moons in June, I've given up on that stuff Arms have charms, but I've no hope of falling in love The rest of life pales in significance I'm looking for somebody with whom to dance
With whom to dance? With whom to dance? I'm looking for somebody with whom to dance.
Rings and strings What use have I for these things? Bells and carousels I'd just be fooling myself. The rest of life pales in significance I'm looking for somebody with whom to dance
With whom to dance? With whom to dance? I'm looking for somebody with whom to dance.
And you, you look like heaven An angel who stepped from a dream 777 times lovelier than anything I've ever seen.
The rest of life pales in significance I'm looking for somebody with whom to dance With whom to dance? With whom to dance? I'm looking for somebody with whom to dance.
The Extra Glenns - "Going to Marrakesh" Yup, that's John Darnielle from The Mountain Goats. (Another hard as hell choice to make, considering that his "Alpha" series is perrrrrfect for all your bitter relationship needs!) But this one's too damn fun to pass up, so...yes. *hearts*
The Extra Glenns - "Going to Marrakesh"
the fog is lifting from the water. the bells are sounding on the boats. and our love is a monster plain and simple. though you weigh it down with stones to try to drown it, it floats. it floats.
the day of reckoning is coming faster than anyone here realizes. and our love is like Jesus, but worse. though you seal the cave up where you've lain its body, it rises. it rises.
I keep waiting for our love to die. the machines by its bed dim and flicker, but it won't stay dead. and it perks up when the nurses bring its medication by.
I wish our love could go the way of all flesh. but it's not right, and its not nice to try and kill the same thing twice. would you pack your things? we are going to Marrakesh.
Cinerama - "Tie Me Up" not safe for work! Okay, so you say relationships (dysfunctional and otherwise) are nice enough, but I'm missing the entire point of Valentine's Day. Well, don't worry, folks, there's something for everybody here. That's right...Coyo brings the porn! Seriously. How this guy can sing this song without cracking up halfway through is beyond me. And it's a really awesome song, actually: catchy, richly orchestrated, with gorgeous vocals. Just. Y'know. PORN. *snickers*
Cinerama - "Tie Me Up"
It's almost unfair that someone should be quite so stunning When they said that you'd called for me I came running Your perfect hands those few loose strands Of hair that are out of place, falling across your face Your fingertips, your eyes, your lips
The minute I closed the door you caressed me Then pulled me down to the floor and undressed me You tied my hands and whispered commands Then my whole body shook as you began to suck I cried your name and then I came
You own me, you own me, and I'll do anything You own me, you own me, and I'm not arguing
Anything that you want to do, I'll do it I'm completely enslaved by you; I'll do it Anything that you want to do, I'll do it I'm completely enslaved by you; I'll do it
You own me, you own me, and I'll do anything You own me, you own me, and I'm not arguing You own me, you own me, and I'll do anything You own me, you own me, and I'm not arguing
Good luck, and hope you find something that inspires you!
