In the end, it almost didn't hurt. He'd been taken by surprise, and as long as he didn't look up, didn't see where his wrists were bound by wire sharp enough to slit skin and almost bone, as long as he didn't rest his eyes on the way the blood flowed smoothly down to disappear beneath his school-uniform sleeves, it didn't hurt. A shaking, shuddery breath was all he could manage when his eyes finally did stray from the receding back before him, to where his arms were held above his head and spread. The level of skill required to control not one wire but two was impressive, and the wielder was one of the best. He sagged forward slightly, knees weakening, and the pain flash-fired through him. He, the silent, the emotionless... the one whose neutral diffidence had taunted them all at some point... he cried out in shocked pain. And the brunette before him didn't stop.
It was over, then. It was done, and he was betrayed. He'd been beaten at his own game, the bindings too horrible to consider. He tried to use his powers, and found them lacking - already, he was too light-headed to do more than move the wires a bit, and wasn't that agony? He sagged a little more, and could feel the wires stripping muscle from bone, pulling it away to lay in flaps around his wrists, rather like backward sleeves. Time to focus now, before it was too late. Time to cut out the one part of him worth cherishing, to carve it away from his soon-to-be lifeless husk and perhaps salvage that tiny spark of happiness. He'd prayed it would never have to come to this, but here he was, seeking out the link that bound him to his lover. And he fought to control his powers long enough to erect a shield. Some would leak through, he knew, but if the bulk could be shielded, he might be spared, this one he'd wanted forever.
