“Why am I here again?” Nagi asked, glancing up at his taller lover for a moment before looking back at the myriad colors of plastic hanging in the aisle. The place smelled like the plastic, a strange, unpleasant scent that irritated his senses. He made a mental note to force Kei to buy some candles before they left, so that he could get rid of the aroma once they were home.
“Because the new cat shredded our old shower curtain, remember?” Kei replied dryly, though the tender gaze he offered Nagi made a lie of his tone. Absently, he reached out, tugging one of the bunched sheets of plastic out and surveying the resulting curtain. A snort from Nagi cued him to drop it again, and it fluttered back into place while he sighed. “You could be some help, you know.”
“I know,” Nagi smirked at him, then let his attention wander away from the shower curtains to the throw pillows on the other side of the aisle. “And you still haven’t told me why I’m here.”
That earned the telekinetic a glare, and Kei plucked another one, holding the plain green curtain up for Nagi’s inspection. “How about because you’re part of my life and I want your input?” he asked.
Nagi wrinkled his nose, pushing Kei’s choice back into the wall before sighing and meeting the clear violet of his lover’s eyes. “That and a bribe. You promised me a hamburger when we’re done, remember?” The words were playful, but the look held meaning. Confronted with it, Kei nodded, watching Nagi pace forward several steps before stopping before a section of clear shower curtains, the thick vinyl sporting designs over part of the surface.
Nagi reached out, picking through them one by one as Kei watched curiously. His own tendency towards privacy made the thought of a clear shower curtain uncomfortable at best, but he let it be, grateful that his lover was finally showing some interest. The gratitude faded moments later, however, when Nagi finally reached behind one of the curtains for a small package abandoning the store demonstrations. “I found one,” he said, gesturing impatiently at Kei. When the redhead approached, Nagi dropped the package into his hands and stalked away, already looking for candles.
Kei looked at the cover, seeing a whimsical arrangement of deep red roses surrounded by smaller flowers of white, yellow, and pale blue. With a wry smile, his obsessive brain identified each - hyssop, snowdrop, myrtle, and cape jasmine. He looked up at Nagi’s departing back, just watching the telekinetic’s grace for a moment before hurrying after him.
