[Weiß Kreuz] Birthday
Title: Birthday Author: Trio Maxwell-Chang Fandom: Weiß Kreuz Pairing or POV: Ken Written for: toxictattoo Special Note: Happy Birthday, Jan!
Birthdays are overrated. That's what he thinks when the day rolls around each year and he's stuck in the shop, arranging flowers and watching Yoji charm the customers. No one knows it's his birthday. He'd been careful about that. He didn't want them to feel obligated to do anything when he'd prefer to just see the day pass in silence.
Once... he'd enjoyed birthdays. But that was before a betrayal that scoured hope from his soul. And so he'd kept very quiet, asking Manx and Persia not to include the information in his personal file and making certain he would work each year on his birthday.
The arrangement completed, he set it in the cooler to await pickup and glanced at the clock. It didn't take much to catch Yoji's eye and point out that it was closing time. A half hour of cleanup while Yoji managed to get several women to buy at least inexpensive bouquets, and the doors shut and locked. As they climbed the steps up to the apartments, Yoji grinned at Ken, peering at him curiously.
"So... what do you have planned for tonight?" he asked, in the same voice he always used while waxing eloquent about whatever date he was planning. Ken grinned, rolling his eyes as he shook his head.
"Nothing much. I've got first shift tomorrow. I think I'm just gonna watch a movie and work out," he said, then turned, pushing open the kitchen door.
And he stood there, poleaxed. On the table was a feast, four places laid out and ready. The counter held a boxed cake, with a package of candles atop it. Omi stood beside the box, grinning widely. Near the table, even Ran was smiling softly.
"What...?" he asked softly, unable to quite quell the confusion in his voice.
