When she had discovered that she was a mutant, she always thought that she wanted to get rid of her power (curse.) No one wants to kill someone by the most innocent of acts. She’d been so isolated because she couldn’t touch others (or be touched.) She always had to wear so many layers to encase her deadly skin in so that she’d protect the people around her. And even then every caution had to be taken to prevent her from accidentally touching someone.

Now that she’s without a mutancy (back to simple Marie who she hates,) her skin is overly sensitive. Bobby’s casual touches make her cringe on the inside because it hurts her (it reminds her of what she stupidly gave away.) She remains on at the school even though she’s no longer gifted (she’s useless and everyone avoids her, except Bobby with his misguided loyalty.)

Every morning, she wakes up and swears that this will be the day that she leaves, but every evening she stays (because Logan still needs her.) It’s funny (not ha-ha funny but a bitter type of funny) that she once needed him so much and now their roles are reversed. Every night when he slips into her room on bare feet (and stinking of alcohol), he steals a piece of her without even realizing it. She wonders if there are bits and pieces of Marie stuck in her head (just like she still has bits and pieces of Logan stuck in her own head.)

When he moves over with a quiet growl of possession, the numbness in her body fades away (his touch doesn’t aggravate her sensitive skin, instead it soothes.) Her body welcomes his (even as her mind closes down and ignores the fact that he wants Jean Grey and not her.) Their bodies move and they get lost in their dreams (she’s certain that he dreams of what could have been with Jean while she just wants Logan to want her.) When it’s over, he kisses her on the forehead and creeps out of her room like a thief (no one knows their dirty little secret) and the ice floods her veins once more.

Ever since she took the cure (more like a curse since it stole who she was,) she feels as if she’s in the winter of her life (meaningless poetic words to cover up the fact that she wants to die.) She feels so hollow as she lies and acts as if she’s relieved that she allow (endure) Bobby’s clumsy touches. She’s so unhappy that she misses Logan’s anguished eyes follow her every move (blind that he wants more than just the few stolen moments in the dead of the night that they share.)

They’re stuck in some cycle that they can’t break out of. It’s not because they don’t want to, it’s because they don’t know how to. She stays because she has no where else to go (Mommy and Daddy won’t have her back since they’ve told everyone she’s died since they couldn’t cope with the idea their daughter was a monster.) She wants to go instead of being avoided but it’s not as if Xavier’s special school has taught her to how to be anything but a mutant (to say her resume is lacking several real life skills is putting it mildly.) And she doesn’t realize that he only stays there because she does. She’s too wrapped up in her own pain to realize that he would take her away to anywhere she wanted to go if she even gave him a hint that she wants to leave this school and life that’s no longer her’s behind.
