"I am sure," Belle murmured. Identifying and burying the dead at the very, very least had to be a distressing and time consuming job. "I wish there was more we could do." But most of the ladies were really quite useless. Better to keep them out of the way then have them fret themselves into tears and just cause more trouble then they were helping.
"The mountain," Belle sighed. "It was a fearful time. Hot, and dark. But I think the thing that frightened us most was feeling so very helpless. There are but few of us who know how to protect ourselves, and there couldn't be the number of soldiers spared to stay with us. When we were finally told that the fight was over, and we could go back to our rooms, it was quite the relief. Only, the loss we found when we returned cast a shadow on the win."
