"Ahhh," General Rotharr nodded. "We have a couple of lilies in Trabia, but it was probably the star-lily. It's white, and fragrant, and does not grow well outside of Trabia," which was probably why the Prince said that they didn't have it in Balamb.
"Star-lily," Riku repeated, his eyes lighting up. "I remember that story." He didn't know that it was that lily that the Prince was talking about when he first told him about the Trabian Lily.
"There was once a maiden who was horribly scared. She'd been burned in her youth in an accident while tending her family's fire. For that, she was known among the people in her village as the Scar-faced girl. One day, she went down to the water to gather plants for her family to eat. There she met a wolf. Most girls would run, but the Scar-faced girl felt no fear, and instead threw of some the dried meat she carried with her to the wolf, sharing her lunch with him."
Riku poured himself another cup of tea. "The next day, the god of the west came to the village, and asked to see all the young maidens of the village, so that he might take one for their wife. Though all the girls wore their best, he found the Scar-faced girl amongst them all and asked to marry her."
"Oh no, her villagers cried. She is not beautiful enough for a god like yourself. But the god of the west insisted. Her heart, he said, was the most beautiful of all the girls in the village. After their marriage, the god of the west took the Scar-faced girl to the lake where they'd met. There he instructed her to wash her face under the wide, starry sky and full lit moon. And her scars melted away with the touch of the water, and transformed into the star-lily."
The General smiled. "You certainly have the talent for story telling, Companion of the Prince."
