Sam Carmichael Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal Butterscotch Cookies I want to eat them. As part of the Fortescue's sweets dynasty, Sam is a natural hand in the kitchen, and he didn't use a recipe. Fortunately, his recipe is very quick, so his first batch was used as a test and ultimately, ended up being scrapped for a version that was a little heavier on the apple taste. Sam was obviously at home in the kitchen, and after he was done, walked around to see what everyone else was making—and was clearly enthusiastic about it. His one "trick" was to put a warming charm on the cookies so that when the judges came by to taste-test, they were at the perfect temperature for warm, slightly chewy, and melty butterscotch chips. Taste: I don't feel comfortable ranking this because so much depends on a person's individual taste. They were less sweet than other cookies: main taste was apple, highlighted by the cinnamon-sugar and the butterscotch. There was also a hint of nutmeg rather than the toasted pecans called for in the recipe. The cookies were more moist than crumbly or crunchy. Inspiration: Sam came in with no idea what he was going to make, so he paid close attention to the inspiration, and decided to go with Essie's preference for apples and cinnamon. It is possible that the judges may see this as more of a fall cookie than a holiday cookie, but Sam was clearly pleased with the way they turned out.
