A romantic figure and one which has found itself thrust back into the limelight of late, thanks primarily to the ridiculous Twilight series, vampires have always been a source of fascination. The notion of vampirism has existed for thousands upon thousands of years; just about every culture in the world has tales of demons and spirits considered to be precursors to modern vampires. However it was thanks to early 18th century Eastern Europe that the term 'vampire' became more commonly known. The belief in this particular legend became so strong at one point, that in some areas it caused mass hysteria and the public execution of people thought to be vampires. In more recent years the vampire has ceased to be a figure of fear, instead it has become a source of romantic fantasy fuelled by the obsession of teenage girls across the world. Of course were any of those girls to meet a real vampire, they'd be in for a shock.
